Dude,

If you buy a router it is going to use NAT also....To use ICS you should have the following..

2 nic cards installed

1st nic--connected to outside world..enable ICS on that connection

2nd nic--connect directly to Xbox, or Switch/Hub

That should work fine....

Hope that helps.

I know how to set up ICS and everything.  It seems there's a conflict between ICS NAT and my firewall.  According to M$ there's strict packet checking between an xbox and XBLive, and since NAT alters the packet header and my firewall adds another tag, XBLive won't allow the connection.  So router or no router, I'm fucked?

You also can change the MAC ID in Xbox Live config screens. This was a fix for ATT broadband because ATT Broadband would only let authorized MACs access. So, I bet if you copied your PC MAC into your Xbox config you could at least get past that hurdle.

I have talked to a M$ representative and was told that ICS is not supported by xbox live.

what i wanted to do  was use my computer that is wireless connected to use ics and a crossover cable to the xbox but it can not be done , so I just bought the Linksys wireless bridge .. works great

Not supported? Oh my God, I'm using an impossible setup  jester.gif .

Now seriously, XBox Live DOES support ICS, routers or whatever you can use to forward network packages. MAYBE your provider is blocking forwarded packages, but I always played Live using ICS. Just remember to actually share the connection and use a cross-over cable to connect the XBox to the PC. No, a regular network cable WON'T do it. Cheers  smile.gif .

I decided to go the way of the router.  Other users around my school have ICS working fine, so I did all the updates and still no luck.  After deciding that it was most likely my computer causing all the trouble, I dropped 50 bucks on a nice 4 port router and am in the process of making a few ethernet cables.  Should I look into opening certain port on my router or should I be just fine when I get it?

Yeah, thats just BS from MS. Im using that exact setup...MS doesn't support wireless connections or anything more complicated than plug n go.
