Be more explicit with what you did -- i cant figure it out.

Try the direct connect method as described here first and see if you can get it going.

on the connection screen for live, it says: cables connected, then when it goes down to ip, it says it is not connected, then after that it says DNS not connected, then it says live not connected. i used to have evo-x installed on my xbox and changed the xbox's ip address like on the tutorial. i no longer have it installed though. would the fact that i had changed it be a problem?? if not, what else can i do??

Did you go to network setup and set all the connections to automatic?

The evox shouldnt be a problem.
It sounds like you have more of an external problem with your network setup or something. Did you put in your MAC address? A lot of ISPs only allow one connection, so you need to fool it by putting in the MAC/physical address if needed.
