Title: Question About Xbox Live
Post by: LinksAwakening on December 14, 2002, 07:43:00 PM
Hey, I bought a premodded Xbox with a Xios in it. I don't have Evolution X Dashboard or anything, just a default modchip. For me to run Xbox Live, all I need to do is fit a switch right?

So I'd just need to install a switch, make sure my chip is off when I load the starter disc, then only use it during the booting process when I want to play backups/originals on and off of Live.

I'm very new to this whole thing, and I'm kind of confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Turn the modchip off to play Xbox Live with originals.

Turn the modchip on to play Xbox with backups and originals.

Thank you so much!
So, other than that, I will be safe and not be banned?
And, from your reply, I take it it is not possible to play Xbox Live with backups, even if I just enable the mod during loadup of the game and then disable it? (If so, I guess that's not THAT bad).
Like I said before, thank you so much! I've been looking for some straight answers on this issue for a while.

You will be safe if you always have your modchip off whenever you use Xbox Live. As a precaution while playing backups, do not hit any selections that relate to Xbox Live.

No, backups do not work on Live. The best method is to turn your modchip off and then power on your Xbox. Turning off your modchip while the backup is running just won't work and probably will result in you getting banned. It has something to do with the modchip's BIOS already loaded into your Xbox's memory.

Oh, ok. I see why that wouldn't work now, if the bios load into memory.
Like I said before, thank you, I was worried that when I would use Live I would mess up and get banned, but I think I understand everything I need to know for me to play on Live. Thanks!

You can select system link and mulitplayer options all you want w/ or w/o RJ cable connected, but just don't select any Live buttons. Probably nothing will happen, but it may update your dashboard, and if you are running an X-ecutor modchip, then it will nuke your Xbox.

So, just don't do it.
