I have two xboxes, both modded with matrix chips.
Xbox 1) Matrix chip was in mode 2 when xbox live was installed. The original MS dashboard was never modified or chaged. It connected to Xbox Live during the intital sign-up and registration and an account was created; but would not connect during Game Play. After this initial session, this xbox fails to connect to xbox live AT ALL now, even with the matrix chip disabled or removed completely. xbox support has been no help, and after the usual "reboot modem, spoof MAC, etc, etc, they claim they are stumped and that I must have a hardware failure with the NIC in my xbox. They never have figured out that I had a mod chip, and didn't even ask if I did......this is after 3+ hours of being on the phone with them.
Xbox 2) Matrix chip was in Mode 3 and disabled when xbox live was installed. Original MS dashboard was the only one on the HD, but evox dashboard has been used, but was deleted prior to installing Live. Everything went as normal, and game play works fine ( XBOX LIVE is WAY freakin' cool). I leave my network connection unplugged except when playing live games, and I always make sure the chip is disabled before plugging in the network connection. So far, so good.
That's the facts. From my experiance, I believe that MS can and will detect a mod chip that is enabled. When they do, the serial number of that xbox is banned from signing on to xbox live servers, even though the xbox live support team can't tell when this has happened.
I have heard that the eeprom can be hacked and the serial number changed. After doing this, you can sign back on to xbox live, recover the account, and play (this time with the matrix disabled!). Is this a fact? What do I need to try this?
