99.999999% of these problems are related to your local connection not the Xbox.

This isn't the Xbox's fault.

Your ISP may also be using Cisco or some other routers which block the ports that the Xbox uses too.

Fortunately these are in the minority and for most people it -IS- plug and go.

The ISP's will also be learning too. After the initial rollout they will quickly come up to speed.

Except for a FEW DLINK routers, XBLive is painless with most DSL/Cable modem sharing devices.

Merely plug and go.

And yes the thread topic is an UNFOUNDED RUMOR, not based on any fact, just idle speculation by people who know nothing or little about networking.

I'm having the same problem as you.  Tried it on 3 different hookups and still won't work.  You can read my other post in this forum for more details.  Pretty annoying.  Lets just hope this is an issue on MS's side (or at least something they can fix before launch).  sad.gif

Actually opjose it is a problem with the Xbox. I don't know what in the world it could be, but it is definately a problem with the xbox.

                                    This is HIGHLY unlikely.

While you may have been blessed with a defective NIC chip in your Xbox, this has little or nothing to do with the posts on the Live forums.

99.99999% of those are configuration issues exacerbated by users who unfortunately know nothing about this stuff. So they post RUMORS...

E.G. My nic is broken.

Then others pick it up ala chicken little.

It's far more likely that the port on your machine has two of the pins in the wrong "slot" (which is easy to do) than it is that you have a defective NIC chip.

This would cause the problems you have seen, and could be fixed with a safety pin.

There are also tons of other reasons.

According to the MS site the Cisco routers require a firmware update.

Opjose:

The Xbox, that does not work with Live, has no other network problems at all. I have no problems on XBConnect, local System Link Play, or connecting to it through FTP when running Evox. It just does not work with Live.

Now I can appreciate the help you offer to the many in these forums, but for the love of all please read the entire msg before responding.

I know how to setup my internet just fine. One Xbox works with Live, while the other does not.

Yes, that means I have 2 Xboxes, and that means I have tried them both on multiple internet connections.

Do I know what the problem is exactly? No, I do not, but I do know, that whatever the problem, it lies in the Xbox not my connection or ability to set it up.

Again this is simply -NOT- related to the Xbox itself.

There is nothing within the Xbox that would permit the NIC to work (which it does obviously) but not permit XBLive to work.

All XBLive is, is a simple FILE on your hard drive that contains the connection information.

Your Xbox merely loads this file when you start an XboxLive enabled game or the dashboard and uses the settings contained within this file.

That's it.

It's up to the programs to work with live or not.

This is why Evolution-X works so well, as the dashboard is not dependant upon anything other than the NIC being present to configure and utilize it.

This is alwy why you can simply transfer the account settings from one Xbox to another. The Xboxlive account info merely gets xferred.

The XBLive "internet" settings are stored on each machine's drive in an XIP file.

Sorry I didn't want to start a flame war of some kind, I just wanted to see if anyone had the same problem I have with getting XBL to work.
1. Has xbox that works perfectly, i.e. : ftp, playgames, xbconnect
2.when trying to log on to XBL get perfect connection check(three green for cable check, DNS setting, and ip address.)
3.But get Live not Found on last.
4.And have xbox connected directly to cable/dsl modem with the right settings for what ever kind of service u got.(to rule out a router problem)

I really don't know whats going on but all I hoped for was someone that had these problems but found a way to get online and shared his secret with us poor slobs that can't connect. ph34r.gif
(And Badmonkey I'm not gonna get another Xbox biggrin.gif )

There may be router problems upstream from you... e.g. at your ISP or their provider/carrier.

I must agree with opjose.

In most cases it will be a problem with your router or the upstream/downstream capacity of your connection.

What I would suggest to sinister is to boot up your xbox under Linux and troubleshoot from there, see if you can reach the outside, transfer data from and to, locate the point (traceroute) where you get stuck and see if it is not a local (routing) problem.

badmonkey, I don't know if you had to open any ports (PAT) for the XBlive service on your router, but this could explain why 1 Xbox works and the other not (if their using DHCP they will have assigned another  IP and since PAT is multiple to one ...).

The only way to be absolutely be 100% sure is to put a sniffer between your router and the box.

But that's just my quick view of the situation ... and who am I to tell you to believe me ?

Yet Another Post ..

If you can ping the outside, try uploading/downloading with the Xbox FTP client to an FTP server on the net.

Nope no DNS entry for this and no ping or traceroute.

You can always call the M$ helpdesk or send them your Xbox so they can test

heheh

Think they will give me back my modchip.  jester.gif

Anyway... I haven't tried troubleshooting from linux, but in the Live setup process it is registering DNS just fine. I have pretty much just given up on the Xbox that doesn't work with Live.

Hopefully MS will come up with the cause and fix it, but until then I do have my new Xbox that works perfectly fine with Live.

Probably for the better anyway. The new Xbox isn't modded. So I won't ever have to worry, if MS does decide to do something about modded Xboxes & Live.

Opjose: I didn't mean to get in an argument over this.
Simple fact is that one Xbox works and the other doesn't. I have gone through all known steps and fixes, and none have worked.

I don't know what the problem is, and, since nothing known now will fix it, I deem it an incompatible Xbox. Until some sort of fix arrives, that is exactly what it is. Obviously in my case it is not my setup or internet connection, because my other Xbox works flawlessly.

Since you've done just about everything possible, there's just about only one thing left...

The serial EEPROM.

I'd love to see a dump of yours.

The recently posted information on it points to this being the main possibility in your case.

Well -I- was starting to get worried that there was something indeed in the Xbox that had been overlooked.

Thanks, you confirmed that this is not the case.
