Title: Xblive Continues Quest.
Post by: bagel5009 on October 27, 2002, 11:30:00 AM
Im really tired and annoyed of all these peeps asking the same question, "I have _____ mod chip, how do i set up xblive?" We need to get things straight.

(Credits to Opjose)

1) First COPY your Evolution-X dashboard from xboxdash.xbe to yboxdash.xbe and place it on the Xbox's C:\ drive.

2) Then flash the bios with the ybox bios.

3) Reboot, and your system should still come up in Evolution-X.

4) Now ftp to it again and rename the original M-I-C-R-O-S-O-F-T dash to xboxdash.xbe

5) Modify the evox.ini file to reflect this change (msxboxdash.xbe ==> xboxdash.xbe) and maybe even xbmp's config file.

6) Reboot the Xbox again.

7) Make sure you can drop to the dash from Evolution-X.

8) If so insert the NEW XboxLive cd, and let it boot.

9) it will "update" your dashboard. When it's done it will shutdown your machine.

10) Eject the disk.

11) The Xbox will come back up in Evolution-X, drop to the MSdashboard.

12) Now you'll see a new tab that says XBOX Live in the MS dash.

13) Your work is done.

14) No more XboxLive worries.

i got one question, if you want to flash to say, a newer evox bios like from 2.4 to 2.5 after doing all this, will i need to reflash the ybox bios after i flash to the 2.5 evox bios? or does the ybox bios stay in there no matter how much flashing i do?

as long as it is some kind of ybox bios, it will stay the same

Does X-Box live detect the presence of a mod-chip at all? I ask because I have a US import x-box, and I just got the europe beta application, and I'll likely need to use a hacked bios to play xblive games...

What Mod-chips support the ybox bios you ask???? Ok here it goes. PC-Bioxxx, matrix/xodus, homebrew, new xecutor2 chips..... now what bios needs to be programed in these chips to make it work?   Evox2.x but the bios must say ".ybox" somewhere in the name

I actually tried writing out a post explaining ybox, but it's not something you can just write out without sounding long-winded.
So my advice, do a search on the subject, check out the pinned posts at the top of the XboxLive forum, or check out opjose's posts on the subject.
He is a wealth of knowledge on the matter, and he has revealed alot of answers on the whole "XboxLive/dash update" questions.

"I do not have an alternate dashboard or anything else on the modded box's hard-drive. However, as of this morning I could not connect to X-Box live."

I have one question for you then. I have my hard drive locked and can boot to the OEM bios (xboxdash.xbe) when I switch my modchip off with the Openbox-PC Bioxx and 2.5 ybox bios. However, I still have the EvoX dashboard (yboxdash.xbe) installed on my hard drive. Am I okay to sign up for Live with my modchip switched off even though I have the EvoX dashboard (yboxdash.xbe) installed on my hard drive, or should I delete the EvoX dashboard (yboxdash.xbe) off my hard drive and boot EvoX off a CD-RW everytime I want to play my backup games just to be safe? If someone can answer me this question, then that would be alot of help.

"lol!!, I know I'm gettin' friggn annoyed too, lol!!"

Ya i know those stupid newbies who kept asking if modchips would work on live!!  They're so stupid, they dont know ANYTHING and we know EVERYTHING!!  That's why we're all playing on xbox live with our modchips right now, nobody's having any troubles and MS didn't ban any of us!!  Stupid n00bs, why do they even bother wasting our time!!!

Yes there is NO problem with ybox or evox dashboard.

You MUST switch off the mod chip and revert to the MS dashboard when you sign up and when you play any games.

Even with the MOD CHIP turned on, the connectivity test should work though.

If it doesn't, nothing is going to help at the moment.

opjose, your are my guiding light, i follow everything you say, but unfortunately more and more evidance is arising against it. I believed you up until now and i still find you as a source of everything i need to know, but im sorry there is to much against it im sorry for anyone i said wrong and at the moment i am neutral on the issue until we get a DEFEINITE as in NOT POSSIBLE WRONG answer.

If you are new at something (like xboxhacking in this case), wouldn't that therefore determine the level of noobism?

If so, if they ban me, then oh well, I will just either buy a used xbox from gamestop for live and recreate my account, and use my other xbox for all the rest.

Wouldn't it just suck for you if the one you bought used from gamestop was there because it was perma-banned?

Muhahahahaha

They didn't ban my account, but XBox Live has been changed even on the Beta servers so that it recognizes modded boxes. Perhaps it is using MAC addresses in a banned list. If that is the case, then I understand that a new version of Evox might let you change the MAC address. However, if they can detect modchips due to the different bios everytime that you connect then the only way around it would be to dynamically switch out the modded bios with the original one. That might be difficult to do.

I beleive the new X-ecuter 2 modchip will allow you to do this. Which should allow you to boot the pirate game, then switch off the chip, then connect to XBlive.

We'll see if that's the case when it comes out though smile.gif

wont work since the mod is LPC based, once you boot the bios through the LPC you cant access the original from TSOP..  and I suspect they do a in-memory checksum/hash or something to identify the Kernel thats currently running...
