You are not actually communicating to Xbox servers once you are in a game.

Rather you are exchanging data with the other Xboxes out there.

If you are experiencing lag of any sort then one or more of you connected to the game are to blame so to speak.

Given that you are hearing the lag, I'd suspect that they people sending to YOU are to blame.
