Title: Play Xbox Games Online For Free! Try Xbconnect!
Post by: HSDEMONZ on April 29, 2003, 09:36:00 PM
Would you like to play other XBOX-SCENE members online?  For FREE?  Then try XBConnect.

First.. you'll need to go to www.xbconnect.com to download the client software.. which is a simple install, requiring a reboot to complete the installation.

Then setup an ACCOUNT.

Once you have done that..  you can now play others online.. in SYSTEM LINK compatible games.

Deathrow
Ghost Recon
Halo
Mech Assault
Moto GP
Nascar Heat
NFL Fever 2003
NHL2k3
Serious Sam
Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Timesplitters 2
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2x
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4
Unreal Championship
Whacked

5 of us on XBOX-SCENE have started an  IRC channel on EFNET called #XS-XBC where we gather.. talk.. and plan games.

Come join our small channel.. and play fellow XBOX-SCENE members online!

#XS-XBC

BTW... BACKUPS.. either BURNED or on the HARD DRIVE work! smile.gif

Also.. XBconnect suppost the use of LIVE Headsets for live audio communications in the GAME that originally support that LIVE feature!

----

Since there seems to be some confusion.. I'll address it here.

www.xbconnect.com & their tunneling software.. is not the same as XBOX LIVE. There is no affiliation between the two entities.

XBOX LIVE will BAN you with MODCHIP turn ON..

XBCONNECT will NOT BAN YOU with Modchip turned ON.

Backups work great on XBCONNECT.

Headsets are NOT necessary.. but should work if you have them.

If you connect to the internet using a PHONE MODEM... don't bother using XBCONNECT.  Your Phone connection is not fast enough for what little data is transfered back and forth.

Hi! guys

So let me get this straight. First off I have a Matrix Modded Xbox in swap mode 3 so I can play on LIVE and from what you are saying :

" BTW... BACKUPS.. either BURNED or on the HARD DRIVE work! "

I could play my Ghost Recon Backup while in mod mode on XBConnect and this would not cause me to get banned when I then go and play my original games on LIVE...Is this correct????

Thanks!

Playing backups on XBConnect will not ban you on Xbox Live... rolleyes.gif

There's a big difference between Live and XBC! With XBC you will play a LAN game, only the XBC software will make your LAN a bit bigger :-)
The moment you go back to Live you must do the usual things, like switching of your modchip and use the original disc.

For me XBConnect works and X-link doesn't :-) Really I can't get it to work for me, but system wise they are the same more or less. The interfaces are different, but different people prefer different interfaces....
And XBC is around longer so you'll probably find more players there.

Where would a microphone/headset plug into on the XBox? Assuming I don't have a headset from XBox Live, is it possible to make one or use something else?

No, you need the connecting unit that goes into the controller

finally installed XBConnect today.  It's pretty cool that you can play online.  Halo is the only game anyone plays though.  I think I saw 1 Ghost Recon server and that was it, kind of stinks that people only host like 3 games and thats it.  I'd love to play some other games instead of just Halo.

The thing that I don't like about XBconnect is that half the people on it are total assholes. If you are not super elite at the game or don't have 2+ people on your Xbox, they kick you. It's hard to find a game with beginners.

Reading through this thread makes me wonder how many times we have to tell people that Tunneling software and XBLive have NOTHING to do with eachother. LoL
There are more than just XBC, one of the most popular is Gamespy Tunnel, but I seem to get better speeds on XBC even though it usually takes for freaking ever for someone to join my room, Ive been keeping an eye one XLink, they seem to be upgrading almost daily I think it might catch on once it gets a bit less beta.

I agree completely:

on a similar note though. I've seen that game spy has a similar system where they emulate a large LAN. I have a few friends with un moded boxes who use it religiously instead of live ('cause its free and we're cheap college types). I've never tried with games from the HDD it'd be interesting to see if it'd work. I bet it would.

So is there a latest list of games you can play with XBConnect ???  (i.e. ones that support multiplayer network gaming) ?

Oops forgot to ask, anyone useing Wireless LAN with XBconnect ?  I know people use it with Xbox Live, so it should work !!

Cheers

Yeah, xbconnect is a nice concept. Unfortunately,  it's mostly Halo that is played on there and it's hard for a noob like me to get a game going since they kick you right away. Another downside is if your pc is in one room and your big screen is in another. It's hard to keep going back and forth, especially if you like to chat via keyboard while playing. Also, most of the servers are very laggy. I know this all sounds negative and it is but I will end it with a positive. If you do manage to connect to a good server running Halo, then it makes it all worthwhile.

Holy shit I just wanna say I played on xbconnect for the first time yesterday and it was better than wearing socks with sandals! I played like 10 hours straight and only played on one laggy server once. I hosted most of my own games, mainly Halo, but had a great time. The program's really easy to get used to. If you have highspeed, get some friends over and play a few games. Even though I was playing single yesterday and didn't really have any problems.

Will Gamespy Tunnel get me banned with a mod chip?

Gamespy = Lag .

Xbconnect = no-Lag .

okay...I have a Live account and a XBConnect account. I want to play using my backup on HD so I need to have my mod turned on.

Let's say I want to play my backup of Castle Wolfenstein on XBConnect. So...as long as I ONLY SELECT SYSTEM LINK I am okay. BUT if I'm drunk and accidentally select Xbox Live I will be banned becasue my mod would be turned on.

Is that what all of you are doing when you want to play the game off your hard drive on XBConnect?

YES, we just select system link. Select Live with the modchip on and you will be banned.

GOT IT?

Here's a question that hasn't been asked:

Is it possible to play Xbox Live games through XBConnect?
I mean games that are designed for net. play but instead of playing with M$'s servers, can you play with XBC, X-Link, or Gamespy?

I don't quite get what you are asking...

System link games work on these free services. If the game has system link, it will work.

If its a Xbox Live game with no system link (NBA2K3), then the game will not work with these free services.

No. XBConnect is installed on your PC and you use the system link feature in games for XBConnect.

I just can't get enough of xbconnect! I might switch to xlink once the boxlink software is released, although I would prefer to continue using xbc with a boxlink-like interface only because there are tons of users on xbc. I will probably be on there a good amount of the day on saturday, if anyone wants to look me up, I should be signed in under deleted23.

as i believe miggidy was asking, I was wondering if it would be possible to make a "free xbox live" program, which rather than mimicking a LAN, mimicks xbox live and thus lets you play xbl games for free and w/ backups, etc.

This is easy...

No.

and there is no way to patch a backed up xbe that would normally go too live and have it run a homebrew program to connect you to an alternate server?
