Post by: flinchme on November 17, 2002, 02:15:00 PM
this is too hilarious.  people will return their xblive kits like crazy.  also , i think you can easily unban your xbox if you called the tech and told him you never had it modded and you were still unable to connect.  its the same concept as working with direct tv, for those that know what im talking about.

People with modded boxes you should say. Now let's think straight for a moment: what's the percentage of people out there with modded systems? Your average "gamer Joe" doesn't even have any idea of what's a "mod", in North America I don't think that more than 10% of units are modded (if all those units are modded). People are not going to return the kits like crazy because most normal people are not crazy enough to tamper with their systems, that's it.

Patrick: Hello and welcome to Xbox interactive online chat support! How
may I help you today?

Trithe: hey, whats up

Trithe: hows it going

Trithe: im having problems connecting to xboxlive

Patrick: I'm fine, Trithe.

Patrick: Unfortunately, I’m not qualified to handle any Technical Support issues with your Xbox. However, I believe that you may benefit from speaking to a technical support representative over the phone. You can contact them toll-free @ 1 -800-4MY-XBOX ( 1-800-469-9269 ). It is open from 9am to 1am, eastern standard time, 7 days a week.
Trithe: well i just have basic questions
Trithe: do you think having a modchip and an 80 gig hard drive full of games would be the reason i cant connect

Trithe: pat?

Patrick: Sorry for the delay. Yes, the mod chip is the main reason why you can't connect to the Xbox Live service.

Trithe: am i out for good?

Trithe: pat, i know that delay was because you were sending ms my information so they can take me out. i forgive you though
Patrick: The Xbox with the mod chip installed that you used to try and connect to Xbox Live will be blocked from accessing the service now and in the future. For now, You are free to continue using your Xbox Live account, but will need to play on another Xbox. You can move your account in one of the following ways: If you have previously saved your account to a memory unit, you can move to another machine. You can use the account recovery process from a different machine to bring back your account. You can go into the dashboard under the memory section and save your account to a memory unit. NOTE: MS reserves the right to take other appropriate action in the future, which could include canceling the your subscription.

Trithe: pat, do i highlight something and cut and paste?

Trithe: talk to me like a person

Trithe: this techno mumbo jumbo is above my head

Patrick: Well, the bottom line, Trithe, is you're unable to use your Xbox on Xbox Live at this point.

Trithe: forever?

Patrick: That's correct.

Trithe: forever ever?

Patrick: Yes.

Trithe: well you know MS product activation was cracked? do you think this will be just like it?

Patrick: I'm afraid I can't say for certain. Can I assist you with anything else?

Trithe: i think that will do it

Indeed... EEPRom seems to be their weak point.

Until people start buying XBoxes with the stolen serial numbers and MS crosses informaiton between two different account logs using the same XBox serial number. The one that stand up with the actual machine, untouched and with the correct serial goes on and free, while the other may end up loosing it's account (and facing whatever legal actions Microsof seems fit).

It's funny until someone gets hurt, and believe, people WILL get caught doing this. Good luck to all who are stupid enough to do so, but then again, don't come back on the forum crying M.icrosoft caught me with a stolen serial what can I do? Opjose? Anyone?

I mentioned the eeprom to Toni (MS Rep) on the phone when she confirmed the permanent ban, but I'm pretty sure it was over her head. I basically dumbed it down to how people can return banned Xbox's, or people can "clone" an unbanned box with a banned one. She understood that and was a little suprised. I just warned her that the policy is going to cause more trouble than good and that I think the permanent ban is a bit harsh, especially if a mod is removed. Unfortunately, I doubt any of the reps know the first thing about a mod, they just have a memo informing them about what to say to us when we ask. They can't do anything to help us. I'd be willing to bet that the banning system is simply automatic, and permanent at this point.

Best Solutions = Own 2 xboxs.

1 modded, 1 non-modded - then u never have to worry

shit, they are cheap now, i got a brand new 1 for $174.99 from EBgames with S-Controller

Best Solution=Own 1 xbox and install a switch

if you havent installed live and gotten banned already.. then install a switch to be able to turn off you modchip from the outside of the Xbox. then buy the LIVE games. alot easier than buyin a 2nd xbox and games

check the tutorials on how to install the switches

Me: look while your not here i figure ill start typing

Me: My xbox claims its not sending any packet when i cant connect ( i have worked on thie problem with 10 phone representatives to no avail) anyway it claims im not uploading or downloading, yet when i put a packet sniffer on the network it shows me talking to MS and shows no sign of rejection. Two questions, why do you make the xbox lie to the owner of it assuming they have no technical knowledge and two why am i not connecting

Me: this is not very good buismanship

Me: I find a company that lies to their consumers on purpose is not a good thing.

Me: I also have had several cases of different answers on the phones with representatives

Me: so tell me, why are you lying so much? what is there to cover up?

Me: Man this is taking a long time, you need more techies, or mabye you dont, if they all lie like i have

Me: heard* sorry got chopped off

this is something i wrote to a techy but my dad wants me off the internet so ill ask the same thing another time, for now you can read over my questions. (it wont actually say me im just protecting my name)

I have a very specific question...

I need to get rid of the dvdx v1 patch on my box (nope didnt back up first) and have been told that you can install the live disc which overwrites the xboxdash.xbe file removing the dvdx patch...

however will it make the check when i install live or when i connect to the server for the modchip as i cant turn off the switch until the patch is removed as it will boot as original because the unsigned code is there.....

Only after i have patched can i use the switch  and it maybe too late

Any ideas ?

Cheers

They would have to ban IP's and individual accounts.

This presents a BIG problem for them.

It's much easier for them to succumb and go with in game mod chip detection for online gameplay.

This is a much more reasonable solution all the way around.

So I have thought about it a bit and like I told I phoned the support guys again

me " Hi just a fast question about a moded Xbox and Live "

sup " Hallo if you have a moded Xbox you cant go online with Live "

me " yeah yeah I know but ... when I change the serial of the Box I can .... "

sup " You .. do  what ? "

me " changing the Serial then I can go live. Ok only for short time but I can play but this is anoying like this "

sup " You cant do this .. "

me " I can "

sup " But ... this will be baned too and someone with a not moded cant go live then "

me " I know but I not care you fuck me so I do with you "

sup " Ah... so what you want know "

me " Ah yes I wanted know if to many serials are banned will then M$ re activate the accounts "

sup " I dont know. I think thay will open only this account which have no chip "

me " Yeah sure but this might be a bit difficult if you dont know which one when all accounts will be down. Why you dont let us play even with moded it is not so hard to find out if I run a copy of a Game then to check the Bios "

sup " It is not up to me only M$ do this we are from support and we cant open or close accounts "

me " I know but I want know when all or the most serials are down or used will then M$ open the accounts again ? "

sup " I cant tell but I think yes "

me " ok thanks .. Bye "

sup " Bye thanks for using Xbox Support"

so what we can tell we use all new serials so long until not moded player wil  be able to go online and will complain about it. Mayby then thay will drop there spying on us..
And thay can ban IPs I dont know how it work in America but we get all 24h a new IP so if thay ban a IP the ISP and everyone who use it cant go then online. I Think thay ban only the serial it work like a Username to log on.

So this why I think thay ban only the serial nothing else.

SO EVERYONE CHANGE YOU SERIAL SO LONG UNTIL NO ACCOUNT WORK :-P

Guys, please note the lvl1 and the lvl1 supervisors are just outsourced. They don't work for MS, and couldn't care less about you or your xbox live account. They have no ability to lookup accounts, or to re-enable accounts. What they say has no bearing, they read from a sheet, and have no technical knowledge. They are know what they are told to know, nothing more, nothing less.

From lvl2 and up, you actually talke to a MS employee.

FuckM$UpTheGoatAss: How come M$ is banning modchips for playin in xblive
Francisco Arenas: Hello and welcome to the Xbox Interactive Online Support. My name is Francisco.
FuckM$UpTheGoatAss: Hi how are you
Francisco Arenas: I'm fine, thank you.
FuckM$UpTheGoatAss: I am wondering why MS is banning xboxs w/ mod chips for playin on xbox live
FuckM$UpTheGoatAss: Hello?
Francisco Arenas: Yes, modified consoles will be banned from Xbox live
FuckM$UpTheGoatAss: And why is that
FuckM$UpTheGoatAss: They can just get eeprom upgrades or serial numbers from other xboxes
FuckM$UpTheGoatAss: And its just causing more hassle for MS
Francisco Arenas: Because that's illegal.
Francisco Arenas: Is there anything else I can help you with?
FuckM$UpTheGoatAss: How are mod chips illegal?
FuckM$UpTheGoatAss: This is what i would like you to help me with
FuckM$UpTheGoatAss: Everyone assumes that mod chips are just made for illegal backups
FuckM$UpTheGoatAss: But they actually can add more features to your xbox
FuckM$UpTheGoatAss: ARE YOU THERE?
Francisco Arenas: MS will defend the gaming experience for our users on Xbox Live, and will not approve the use of any game cheating devices for the Xbox gaming platform. This is a violation of the Xbox Live Terms of Use. If users attempt to access Xbox Live with an Xbox installed with modified hardware or unapproved software, their Xbox will be blocked from accessing the service now and in the future. MS reserves the right to take other appropriate action in the future, which could include cancelin

FuckM$UpTheGoatAss: THIS IS NOT PERSONAL CHAT
FuckM$UpTheGoatAss: This is about me defending my rights as an individual to find out why and how they are blocking the xboxes from using xbox live
Francisco Arenas: We don't handle that sort of issues here. Only presale questions.
Francisco Arenas: Do you have any question regarding that?
FuckM$UpTheGoatAss: Why wouldnt you
FuckM$UpTheGoatAss: HOW ARE THEY BLOCKING XBOXES FROM XBOXLIVE
Francisco Arenas: We don't have that information here. Anything else?

Bagel edit that first post, its WAY to long.

Now reguarding serial numbers.

I have posted this before and will again. You dont own your xbox in the same way that you dont own your dss card and dont own your drivers license. It can be confiscated at any time and is not suppposed to be messed with. Also I am sure that there are other identification numbers other than the serial number that m$ can use, maybe the original Hd ID or your ethernet ID, IP's are useless cause like someone said many peoples change all the time. So  M$ may very well enable all serial numbers if to many legit ones get banned. For now if I were to get baned I would call saying I just picked up my xbox and live from the store and I cant get on, meanning to them that it was not a mod but a stolen serial #.

Actually level 1 technical support is probably being provided by a service who employees people who work from home. They have phone lines installed and log into a website when available and their phone starts ringing. You could actually be calling someone down the street from you who works for the company. Sounds silly but it is a very inexpensive way to run technical support. The reason I know this is a friend of mine does this for a living. She has four different companies that she works for. She takes credit card orders for one company (Miss Cleo) and does Windows support for another one (Keen.Com). She quit her full time job and makes a good amount of money being self employed.

For the republican discussion:
They way the world is going more and more rights have to be given up. With more and more people on this planet brings more and more wackos that dont care about anything. All it takes is a few extremists to do alot of damage to alot of people. SO, to minimize this we have to give up more rights(to when it will end I dont know). Back in the old days you could take your gun to the bar, what do you think would happen if everyone could do that today?

The EULA discussion:
Sony has gone through this same thing in the court system (although it was in a down-under  society and would have surley not been the same outcome in our beloved USA), and basicly when we mod our systems we get around the copy protection scheme, thus violating the agrement. You seriously think MS had no clue of what a mod chip is and that people might try to do it to their system? Come on give M$ some credit for being intelegent. The only arguments that stands is to say you legitlmently bought DVD's and games from other countries and you wanted to play them, also you like to back up your games, but the aussie court said you must have a piece of the cd or dvd game to prove you purchased it in order to legally back it up. It does not matter how baddly damaged it is as long as you have a recognizable piece.
