I was modded last night twice too, one was in the high 20's and the other was level 32. The bastard was in my team on one of the games, I quit straight away.
I read on Bungie.net news that they've banned over 50,000 accounts though, maybe they've found a way around the ban hammer

The problem was never fixed. Bungie just used scare tactics and an "auto update" that was rather useless to keep people from modding.
They now realize that bungie was bluffing and people are starting to cheat again because they know Bungie can't do anything about it.

happened to me this weekend as well. we almost beat one of the guys on team skirmish, which is pretty bad. other time it was on turf and there was this big greeen alien ship outside which i had never seen before. not sure if that was part of the mod or not but the guy "Flew" me up there in the jeep, so that was cool. still reported him for cheating anyway. I think he was a level 42.

I feel for you all. I play an average of 3 hours a day, weekends sometimes as many as 8, and I have never been in a game with modders. Lucky I guess, but from my perspective the auto detection system that bungie has is doing its job.

What auto detection? I've been leaving in-game feedback for the cheaters, emailing h2cheats@M i c r o s o f t.com, and been monitoring the cheater's gamertags to see when they will finally be banned, but out of the 15 people I'm currently monitoring... only 2 guys have been banned.
Their auto detection is a lie. They were just spewing banning threats to prevent people from trying to mod. I'm only a level 29 now because of the cheaters.

modders are here becuase bungie lied about the auto update and are just banning people as they go on the leader boards (they still have them).
i wouldnt trust bungie with a crayon. they would probally say it last forever. but then someone would realize that it has absolutly no protection what-so-ever.
bungie based its anti-cheat on security-through-obscurity.

Ohh come on guys listen to what your saying. Why would Bungie lie? Have you not seen the drop of modders on XBlive? Of course there are still a few dickheads on Live but Bungie are trying their hardest to stop modding. I would like to see you guys try and filter out ALL of the modders from Halo 2. You guys just do not appreciate what they are doing for YOU and everyone else on Live. THEY want to make it better and they have been. They have banned a SHIT load of accounts to make Live better. If they had more people working around the clock to sift through the modders and legit players on Live then it would be cleaned up much faster.

I agree its not as bad as it used to be, the old standby was just ridiculous.. but it's still there.. I find what works best for me because I have an old xbox is listen to see if its a new map being loaded in the pregame lobby and if so just back out.. repeat until its an old map, chances are vastly reduced of being modded..
If you have and old box give that a go.. if not? I dunno, anyone else have any tactics to thrwat this crap?

I play often but haven't seen a modder in a while. Only going to run into that problem more if you are playing to rank up and not have fun. Go to a training game. Never got modded there one time.

They cant stop modders, they can just ban them if they use the modded files shortly after. I went back on it two weeks ago and haven't had one single modder since.

i got modded this weekend too, well actually both teams had a modder.. basterds, that takes the fun out of the game.. (weird how everyone was exited for halo 2 to be released, but once it was n everybody started playing on live, they realized the game was buggy as hell. Hope bungie takes their time on halo 3...actually halo 2 its the only game i know of that has alot of problems on Live[cheaters,glitches,etc]..lol)

Well actually every game has modders/cheaters to some degree. Halo 2 is by far the most popular game for XboxLive since it's start. So therefore the number of creep-o's that crawl out of the woodwork to cheat goes up as well. I would say that from a ratio standpoint, XboxLive as a whole would be about 15% cheaters, and that for Halo2, that ratio increases to closer to 25-30% cheaters.
Plus with the matchmaking system, which is a great idea, you are constantly matched with randoms. So the chance of encountering a cheater is higher. When I played Mechwarrior a lot, I never encountered many cheaters, because I would play games with the same people over and over. If a dude cheated, you had the choice not to play with him. And without the rankings, people did not have as much incentive to cheat.

you couldnt cheat on halo 1 that I know of. Played it on XBC and never ran into cheaters.

no you couldn't cheat in halo 1, for some reason bungie decided to include checksums for the maps in halo 1, but not 2. With a check sum, the game checks the signature of the two maps that the players were going to play on, if they didn't match, the game would end the match.

you could cheat, you can get glasswalls, but its obvious when they do it and you could kick them.

I was playing Big Team battle today on Terminal and a modder popped up on my team. However he was terrible. He only ended up 23 kills and 8 deaths (for reference I got 23 and 4). Link
If it wasnt for me, it would have been a tied game! Jesus...if a modder is on my team, I want to at least blow out the other team :grr:

I don't know but look how many people with the ability(I'm assuming that if you post here you have a modded xbox?)to mod but don't. Why not stop bitchin about it and do something, is there really nooooo way to like countermod or something? Seriously I'll donate 100 bucks to the cause. If it's possible it shouldn't just be handed out to prevent it being used to cheat. I don't know now that I look at what I've written but it that shit would be badasssss.

I'd love to be able to use an anti-mod patch on XBL (for Halo 2), but I don't think it's possible.
It's possible for KAI and XBC, but not XBL.

how could it be impossible to do something if cheaters can cheat, then couldn't you make a cheat that uses the same back door to sabotage the cheaters. i don't know, i wish i knew more about it i'm considering posting over at halomods.

Can you elaborate on what this entails? It'd be awesome to get rid of the scumbags that mod in matchmaking.
Cheers

Yeah please post the info mate. Its good that there are almost NO modders at all in the Aussie room of XKai. They are all great people on that. The only cheaters and stuff from Australia go into the hacking section which is good. Anyway it would be cool to post how to prevent modders and hackers just in case people like myself get these assholes coming on Kai. Thanks mate

Just a week or two before the Halo 2 hacking forums were closed down someone posted a W.I.P anti-modding program that would run on Kai and XBC (through your PC) that can detect if anyone in your game was using hacked maps. The program was in it's beta stages and sounded legit. Unfortunately, the forums were closed and I have no clue what happened to the program he was creating.
I don't remember the guys name, but it's the same guy who first released the Auto Aim hack.
I'd love to find out what ever happened to his program and whether it can be adapted to work on Xbox Live through the bridging/firewall crap that people have been using lately. I'm tired of getting cheated on.
I ran into another pair of cheating bastards on XBL last night. Got stuck playing with them twice. The bastards GT's were EmployedWhale and Born Darkness. They sucked ass and the guys on our team (myself included) intentionally lost the games just to piss these guys off.
They got mad because we intentionally lost the games and didn't understand why we didn't want to help them cheat.

D*mn only if you could remember who did it, maybe if you post over at halomods it'll jog somebodies memory, i'd really like to see an antimodding software happen. Just show programmers that there is legitimate interest in this project and maybe something will happen..... I think i'll make a new topic of this.....
