For other people with this problem, I managed to fix it on my friends xbox because he had it set to Widescreen. You change this in the settings in M$ dash.

I have gotten used to the horizontal setup from Halo that I didnt really like the verticle alignment in Halo 2... even with a 55" widescreen I felt cramped... Although it seems in multiplayer at least that the boards are alot more verticle... Many different levels up and down within a board.  Halo was much flatter...except for the couple that had multuiple levels in it.
