Can someone point me in the direction of some good linux software that will convert video to MP4? avi's mpg's vob's, etc

i know one, im not sure if its linux, but google pspvideo 9...thats the one i use on windows...

If your converting videos to use on your PSP and you have a 1.5 PSP use .pmp insted of .mp4.

MP4box is worth looking into (although it cant transcode, only convert), its command line but there are GUI tools for it like YAMB.

If you can't find a (decent) pure linux app, you could try  an already suggested app through WINE, its going to be slow though.

I take a look at mp4box, I know psp9 and videora are not linux apps. Thanks for the suggestions. When you say it can't transcode, what does that mean?

I have looked into it a bit more and i realy dont think its what you want, i would test it but im not on a linux box at the minute.

I have found this (http://handbrake.m0k.org/) though, it only handles .VOB input, but will output to MP4 under linux.

And, dont know how i forgot it, but ffmpeg can handle almost anything you through at it, http://ffmpeg.source...e.net/index.php but it might take a bit of work to get going.

You are right FFmpeg is probably going to be the way to go with this.....Video format is this right?

MPEG-4     MPEG-4 is a variant of QuickTime.


Cause can't quicktime play these video's as well?
