| why wouldnt it?? |
Because he doesn't know much about networking and wanted to ask before slapping down 60 bucks
Any wireless bridge _should_ work - but don't come crying to me if it doesn't :P
Well I am interested in this too. Can you get the standard MS G-adapter to work on a network that uses 64-bit WEP protection? How you you set up the encription password?
The reason it's an interesting question is the MS bridge depends on the dashboard to configure it; with the other bridges it's not such a big deal.
I don't know the answer, though. Sorry.
I do. It won't work.
I have said Wireless-G bridge... and when you try to run it through any dashboard other than MS, it doesn't detect it, even with no WEP.
Now, when you run the included DVD, it runs a modified MS Dashboard with just wireless settings. From there, you can configure your network, add 64/128bit encryption (or no security), and add a password, if desired. Once you have this all set up, it works fine. But if you run a different dash and don't have the MS dash (deleted it or whatever) you set up the wireless settings on, it no longer works, and Ava (or whatever) will say "NO Link".
A couple of notes... you must run the included DVD on either an unmodified Box (if you don't, it gives the 'there is something worng with your game/ dirty disk error' error message, OR run the disk after having booted up Ava or whatever your dash is. You can't load it straight if your box is modded.
This is all just my experiences with this product. It works just fine, under the right conditions.
Bottom line, you need to have a valid MS dash to configure it properly, and the MS dash must be the first thing to boot when starting up your Xbox.
If anyone has had any other experiences with this, let me know.

Yea so basically don't get the MS one.... just get one from Linksys or Dlink etc.
I personally like the MS one.. it matches the Xbox perfectly. I'm working on planting it INSIDE the box so I don't have something extra to lug around.
An interesting thing from that I got from the DVD is this: When you run it on a modded box, it gives you the dirty disk error. Why doesn't MS do this with all their games to prevent piracy? I know it would be shooting themselves in the foot, but wouldn't it prevent people from modding their Xbox?
Then again, maybe I just answered my own question.
I have the xbox adapter and it works fine. I did have to initially boot to the MS dash to set it up, but now I boot to evox and have no problems. I think the dash just writes the settings to the adapter. I'm using Slayer's too.
Works great!
Question for jake51s... Are you running evox with WEP turned on?
I've just taken the plunge myself as I wanted a wireless LAN connected to my xbox for XBMC use mainly, and elimate the need to unplug it etc for FTPing ..
Just purchased a Belkin 54mbps ADSL Wireless Router and a Belkin 54mbs Access Point to plug into the xbox..
Trouble is I have no idea how to set it up (1st network).. been playing with it for hours and no joy. Is the Access Point the right bit of kit to hook up on to the xbox?
I have FTP'd to avalaunch using a direct cable connection but never used a LAN
Does anyone have a guide on setting up a wireless lan or know what I need to configure in Avalaunch to get all the devices talking?
A little push in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

A Access Point is not the same as a "Bridge" only a Bridge will work with a wireless
router.
Belkin calls their "Bridge" a Wireless Ethernet Adapater.
