I know because i'm canadian that hockey will just pick up where it left off up here. But my question goes towards those who live in the US.
Are you guys happy and ready to see the new nhl? or are you just going to ignore it and watch your baseball/basketball/football?

I agree with you 100% Tickets are way to much for hockey, Damn I wanted to see Detroit vs. Toronto and they were 200 each. Wow talk about a rip off. Well it's good to see Canada's game back, I hope Stevie Yzerman is back he is awsome what a superstar IMO the best in the game.

I have respect for him he is the only player not named Lemieux or Gretzky to score more the 150 points in a single season he had 90 assits and 60 goals in '89'-90, Also Stevie Y has 3 "stanley" cups, 2 gold medals, a heart trophy, conn smythe and is the longest searving captain in NHL history. I am a loyal Wings fan and would like to see him return for leadership and to add depth to a allready strong team

Yeah, i dont like many of the changes. Although i guess i could tolerate them if they actually help bring in fans and make it so i can actually watch non-local games on TV without paying for center ice.
I did hear something about 3 on 3 overtime, it might be interesting to watch. Although i dont know for how long.

It was all luck of the draw. Its sad how the NHL is reduced to just picking their balls out of a wheel. Just shows you how the players together dont have the balls to drag this out another year. I'm glad after 310 its over, but the fact is most teams will stay alive but as for being competitive its not going to change. Teams with money will always find a way to avoid any cap restrictions. You will always see a team like Toronto make dumb moves and pick up vet's from Random XYZ team and say "well they went with my hockey club the whole year, so their salary does not count." This cap was a total fucking waste of time on the players part for delaying it an extra 4 months, the owners part for being dickheads and wanting it all or nothing, and most of all wasting our time a whole year especially to those who lost jobs or didnt get the revenue they would have if their was hockey on.
Dont get me wrong, I'm happy their back, but from here on in its all an uphill battle to win back fans, bar owners and to those who lost their job.

First buyouts, Tony Amonte and John LeClair have had their contracts bought out by the Flyers, The Pittsburgh Penguins should look into LeClair because he is a proven goal scorer and him with Sidney Crosby and Mario Lemieux would be a great line. I'm from pittsburgh and i was so pumped for this last season i thought they were going to do pretty well with recchi, lemieux, and their young team that did very well in the second half of the season along with the #1 and #2 draft pics the last 2 years.
then i get the news that the NHL is back and i didn't think i could be happier
I just got back from pittsburgh with my brother and i can't explain the energy that is in that city after the big news yesterday, it's really great to see the fans back in it there after rough times recently.
In the paper this morning there were articles all over the sprots section, mentioning how people were waiting on the phone for over an hour just to get tickets to a game... i'm so fucking excited.
And they plan to have both lemieux and crosby on the ice together for the first game which is oct 5th, also lemieux's bday.
I think with the growing young players, still strong veterans like lemieux and recchi, and the #1, #2, and #1 draft picks the last 3 years the pens will be contending for a playoff spot this year and i think will be one of the better teams withing a couple years.
sry if i sounded selfish about my team getting crosby, but i hostestly think that team in that city needs this more than any other team.

The Detroit Red Wings, began a busy week in the National Hockey League's buyout barn by eliminating the contracts of defenceman Derian Hatcher, left winger Ray Whitney and right winger Darren McCarty.
The contracts, all purchased at two-thirds the value of the deal, clears more than $9 million US to spend on free agents after Detroit had less than $7 million to play with under the new $39-million NHL cap.
It also adds Hatcher's name to a growing list of prominent free-agent defencemen, such as Scott Niedermayer, Sergei Gonchar and Adam Foote. Hatcher is expected to talk to the Dallas Stars, his first NHL team, where he won a Stanley Cup in 1999. McCarty was a three-time Cup winner and career Red Wing.
Niedermayer, the 2004 Norris Trophy winner, has been linked to the Maple Leafs, among others, but it's expected his destination of choice if he leaves the Meadowlands would be Vancouver, near his Edmonton birthplace and junior hockey roots in Kamloops.
The Canucks have about $28 million in cap room, but must sign a whack of restricted free agents and most importantly, get unrestricted captain Markus Naslund under contract.
Niedermayer would give them a reliable power-play quarterback, but many feel the money is better spent on a goaltender such as Nikolai Khabibulin, given Dan Cloutier's ups and downs.
A radio report had Khabibulin going back to his former team, the Phoenix Coyotes, when the free-agency signing period begins on Monday.
The Coyotes bought out forward Brian Savage yesterday, while the Montreal Canadiens did not pick up the option on defenceman Patrice Brisbois.

In Sweden, hockey fans already are fantasizing about a Mats Sundin-Forsberg union, though there also are rumours that Forsberg and fellow unrestricted free agent and Vancouver Canucks captain Markus Naslund will shop themselves as a package.
Forsberg's future with Colorado has been in doubt. To keep Joe Sakic and Rob Blake and restock the Avs -- Sakic and Blake were invited to a team news conference yesterday as a signal they're staying -- Forsberg would have to be sacrificed, with Alex Tanguay possibly moving to centre.
Forsberg has told friends that he prefers to stay in Denver but if that club's hefty payroll has no wiggle room under the $39-million US salary cap, he wants to go to a competitive team in a big hockey market. Cue the Blue and White bandwagon to welcome him at Union Station. The Leafs would even have jersey No. 21 ready thanks to Robert Reichel's convenient departure.
But Toronto general manager John Ferguson won't talk about Forsberg, citing NHL tampering rules, though it's interesting that he has met his agent, Don Baizley, in the past few days regarding another client, Swedish prospect Alexander Steen.

Ferguson also is trying to see if he can keep some or all of Gary Roberts, Joe Nieuwendyk, Tie Domi and Alex Mogilny during this week's exclusive period for all teams to haggle with their free agents.
"We've continued discussions the past couple of days," said Rick Curran, agent for Roberts and Nieuwendyk.
Curran doesn't expect another client, defenceman Tomas Kaberle, to be bought out by Ferguson this week, echoing the agents for Bryan McCabe and Ken Klee. If so, that means Ferguson is counting heavily on shedding Nolan's contract to help build their current $12 million cap space to fill about 16 spots on the roster with restricted free agents, farmhands and UFAs.

wow, lets hope this continues. I love all the talk about hockey and anything hockey related. Its nice to see the league picking right back up here in Torotno with the media and what not, but one thing is forsure the Leafs will have to make a run for the cup this year as eddie belfour aint getting any younger.
As for hatcher, i heard more about him going to Dallas then I heard him going to VanCouver. Vancouver with a guy like Hatcher will have a solid defence with a mix of young and old. With Hatcher they can roll 3 defence lines just as good as NJ's 2003 Stanley cup winner team did.

On the surface, general manager Mike O'Connell's reported offer of five years at close to $25 million US is a generous one. But the average of just over $5 million is less than what he's due as a qualifying offer this year and Thornton, as an eight-year NHL veteran, can become unrestricted next summer.
"It makes you wonder if they truly understand what kind of hockey player they have with Joe," agent J.P. Barry told the Canadian Press. "We'll see where this is going very soon."
O'Connell insists he's trying to keep Thornton happy and ice a competitive team, too. With just three players under contract and more than $37 million to spend, he fired off long-term offers to winger Sergei Samsonov (three years), winger P.J. That changed, he said Thursday, after discussions with the NHLPA executive committee. There was always going to be a transition, Goodenow told a news conference. He just "accelerated" the process.
"I've enjoyed very much my involvement and I think that the transition which would have occurred in the future, being moved up as it has been today, is the right step at the right time," he explained.
"There's the old saying, when it feels good and it looks good, go ahead and do it, and that's what we've done."
Goodenow had "a couple of years left" on a contract that reportedly paid him $2.5 million US a year. Apparently a settlement was negotiated to take care of that deal.
"What we've worked out is an accommodation that's satisfactory to everyone," he said.
The hard-nosed Goodenow officially took as NHLPA executive director in 1992, but had been running the show behind the scenes as early as 1991 in the messy departure of Alan Eagleson.
He said he had no immediate plans.
"I have no plans for anything right now. I'm going to take a few months off and think about what I might want to do in the future. I really haven't given it any thought."
Goodenow called his time with the NHLPA "a tremendous pleasure."
"It's a tremendous sport, it's a great group of people and I get to tell you that I think the future is very bright for the sport and for everyone involved in it," he said.
Saskin, the NHLPA's senior director of business affairs and licensing, will succeed Goodenow as executive director and general counsel. Saskin served as the union's lead negotiator on the labour deal, sparring with Bill Daly of the NHL.

It is widely believed that the new labour deal, with its salary cap and linkage to league revenues, was not favoured by Goodenow.
But as the lockout wiped out the entire 2004-05 season, players made their voices heard. NHLPA president Trevor Linden stepped in and the union returned to the bargaining table ready to negotiate
On Thursday, Goodenow dismissed a suggestion the agreement was a failure. And he showed some emotion when asked about suggestions he had played a smaller role in the negotiations as the months wore on.
He rejected the suggestion, growing emotional when talking about how a "personal matter" had taken him away from the process at one point.
"My mother passed away last week and I had some days where I was preoccupied," he said.
In its statement announcing Goodenow's departure, the NHLPA said: "This decision followed discussions between Goodenow and members of the executive committee about the organization's future."
Linden spoke warmly of Goodenow in the statement announcing his departure.
"Every NHL player has benefited enormously from Bob's leadership and dedication. He has been a tireless advocate for the players and he dramatically improved the players' situation in every respect. Bob built the NHLPA into a first-class organization and we are all very grateful to him."
Linden also praised Saskin in Thursday's statement.
"Ted has worked closely with Bob every step of the way and has done an excellent job for the players in our recently concluded CBA negotiations. We have every confidence that he will be able to lead our association well in the years to come."

Well it's a new day so I have more news. Chris Pronger is most likey going to Flordia or Atlanta. Both teams have expressed intrest in him and he played with Mike Keenen (Spelling) in the past and Altanta needs a vertern to protect thier stars and add some leadership. As for buyouts Chris Gratton, Bobby Holik, Scott Lachance, Mathieu Biron and Matt Johnson have all been all bought out to save money. As for the Draft Brian Burke has the number 2 pick and the Canucks have expressed intrest in it offering Ed Jovanovski for the pick, Also St Louis has talked with Burke trying to send Chris Pronger there for the pick but have to get his (Prongers) premission and word that he will sign a multi year deal. The last team that wants the 2nd pick is the Avs the wanted to send either Milan Hejduk and/or Alex Tanguay to the Ducks for their pick. I can't wait to see how this one plays out.
It also looks like Tie Domi is out of Toronto and off to Pittsburgh Penguins. Also reports have Roberts going to Flordia and Joe Nieuwendyk to Dallas. So they (Leafs) can sign Adam Foote.

I hope Jeff O'Neil works out for Toronto after what happened to his brother, The one thing that pisses me off is the Leafs cut their tickets by a whoping 5% wow and no freebies whats up with that? Ottawa is at least giving out freebies such as jersey's and promo items throughout the first week of play. The Penguins have all ready sold triple the amount of season tickets as compared to 2 years ago.

Zigmund Palffy might end up in Toronto, Detroit or Flordia if the Kings don't sign him to a 3 year deal. Defence remains a concern in Toronto, though an offensive-minded type to run the Leafs' inconsistent power play could see a Sergei Gonchar like player.

I hope Jeff O'Neil works out for Toronto after what happened to his brother, The one thing that pisses me off is the Leafs cut their tickets by a whoping 5% wow and no freebies whats up with that? Ottawa is at least giving out freebies such as jersey's and promo items throughout the first week of play. The Penguins have all ready sold triple the amount of season tickets as compared to 2 years ago.

I just read that the Leafs lost Brain Leach to the Bruins. The Blue Jackets have signed Brain Berard. the Habs signed Mathieu Dandenault. It looks like Mike Modano is out of Dallas I reported that he was close to a deal but it looks like Chicago and Boston have offered him a four year deal worth $20 million and Dallas only offered 5 years at $17.5 million
Toronto has expressed intrest in Chris Osgood of St. Louis I say he should sign with Detroit again. The Leafs should have bought out Belfour when they had the chance.

Sorry about all the posts or updates but Peter Forsberg is a Flyer now. They are over the cap and are looking to send Jeremy Roenick to the Kings. The Oliers have been busy trading Mike York and a conditional draft choice to the Islanders in exchange for Micheal Peca. Peca adds grit and is a great defensive minded foward who can dish out huge open ice hits. Thats it for now, hope this years season is a success

The Sabers signed Teppo Numminen. Also reports say that Alexei Zhamnov is very close to signing a 3 year $12 million deal since Mike Modano resigned with the Dallas Stars. Thats all I know for now, I will keep you all updated.

Nikolai Khabibulin has signed with the Chicago Blackhawks at $6.75 million per season over the next 4 years. Also the Penguins have expressed intrest in Curtis Joesph I think this is a good move for the Red Wings to get rid of him. Also the Oilers, Sharks and Kings are all after Paul Kariya offering him a salery worth between $2.5 million to $3 million. The Oilers also said they would like to sign Mark Messier if they get Kariya. Brendon Morrison has resigned with the Canucks

tsn.ca reports that Wayne Gretzky will be Pheonix's new head coach. Buffalo has reported that they have signed Mike Greir to a 1 year $1.4 million contract. He had 22 points in 68 games in 2003/2004. Columbis has also reported that they have signed Rick Nash to a 5 year $27 million contract.

I see Sidney getting the Rookie of the Year and maybe either Palffy or Rick Nash getting the Rocket Richard trophy thats just my 2 cents anyway
