I know I know this is not your everyday post. I need to know of a safe way to render my motherboard useless without destroying my processor. I'm thinking that I'll just take a jumper from the mobo and put it on 3 pin fan connector. However, I'm looking for some really clever ways to sabatoge this board without it "looking" like it was sabatoged. And yes, this is MY motherboard. I'm an A+ certified tech. This is an experiment on mobos that I'm conducting with some guys that I'm training to be techs. Any help would be appreciated.....REMEMBER I'm looking for A SAFE WAY TO DO THIS!!!!
Sincerely, BomB |
or, you want to claim warranty, but cant find a way of destroying the mobo without leaving marks
but your an a+ tech, so i guess it makes since to ask on online forum based upon xbox modding how to fuck up a computer mobo
cross some connections with solder on the mobo, or stick a hot rod into the BIOS chip or the Chipset

I dont think Intel warranties a 6 year old mobo..... ;)
The idea is to do this safely without visible signs...so that I can show how careful you need to be when working on computers and that theres not always tell tale signs of mobo failure...too many people nowadays give the power supply or the processor a bad rap.....The other idea is to have some fun. :jester:
use an oscilloscope or DVM on the legs of an IC on your mobo to find a +15V rail and a -15V rail. Short them together with a scredriver or hold a piece of wire on them. You wont get a shock because the current is too low but it should blow the chip. If that doesnt work try shorting either to ground or another signal on the mobo (eg another leg of an IC which has a reasonable voltage). Just that chip should blow so you know where the problem is as well.
hope this helps
Rub it on your carpet a few times.
Remember, static is your friend (well, in this case, atleast)
not bad idea about static man, cause static kills shit
Introduce it to your 12 guage shotgun  . After that is ylou can find the peices glue it back together.
Ha ha ha....yeah that would definitely do the trick.....Now I just have to figure out which glue to use.
Thanks eveyone for your suggestions, I'm going to do the static thing. First I'll vacuum a portion of my carper..passing over it a bunch of times...then I'll slide the mobo around. If it that doesnt do the trick, I'm going to hook up a pair of jumper cables from my car and tap a couple of chips with the cable....VERY CAREFULLY. I think that will send it to the netherworld
I'll let yall know how the experiment turns out!!!

just thought of a better idea. Stick it your microwave. We used to do it with CD's in my student days (microwave wasnt ours), it will give a nice electrical storm and as long as its only for about 20secs wont damage your microwave.
Thats an awesom idea!!!!!!!!!! Ha ha!!!! Badda ba ba baaaaa I'm loving it!! :luv:
I think I might have to do that Melon!!!!!
I thought the point was to damage it, but so that it was not obvious without doing some testing.
Hooking a battery to it or nuking it in the micro wave would show major signs that it was boned.
Yeah, u'r right....dammit
Howeve, with the battery thing I was going to tap the chips with it not the actual board itself.
Hmmmm....I guess I'll just do the static thing
I wonder tho, what it would look like coming out of the microwave
Static and water are the options that are the least likely to leave a mark.
The battery and micro wave will leave a mark. If you do the microwave option DO NOT LEAVE IT IN FOR 20 SECONDS!!!!! Stand there with your finger on the stop button and as soon as you see that blue flaming arc stop it.
