Title: I Finally Ot It Damnit!
Post by: villevalo on February 14, 2005, 02:59:00 AM
I finally figured out how to make almost any *mod* work for the xbox version of Morrowind. It so damn easy, can't believe I didn't figure it out earlier. Anyway, here it is. Copy the Morrowind.esm file to your hard drive. Rename it to Morrowind.esp. Open the newly renamed Morrowind.esp file in MWEdit, and set it as active. It loads everything from the esm file as if it were a mod. Do whatever mods you wish to it, and save it to another place on your hard drive. Rename it BACK to Morrowind.esm, and replace it with your xbox's Morrowind.esm files in both the save game file, and in the main file. I still have to figure out how to get building in there, but when I do I will post it. If anyone else figures it out, please let me know.

Ok this I understood:
Copy the Morrowind.esm file to your hard drive. Rename it to Morrowind.esp. Open the newly renamed Morrowind.esp file in MWEdit, and set it as active.

Even though I have no ide what or where to get MW Edit from I understood this:
Open the newly renamed Morrowind.esp file in MWEdit, and set it as active

I even understood this:
It loads everything from the esm file as if it were a mod.

But this next thing is completely screwed up an in need of serious explination because you don't make anysense with this because you missing steps within it:
Problem one:
YOu said this: Do whatever mods you wish to it
Stop rigt there you need to define what the hell about your talking about. What exactly do you mean by Do whatever mods you wish to and save it to another place on your hard drive.?
How excatly do you accomplish getting mods into this thing and you can't save it to a place that hasn't been defined yet where. Also you need to define which HD your talking about, the Comp HD or the x-box HD

When the explination for that is given then go on to the next problem:
Problem 2:
You said to Rename it BACK to Morrowind.esm
Rename what exactly back to Morrowind.esm?

Now onto problem 3
Problem 3:
You said: and replace it with your xbox's Morrowind.esm
I thought you said to change this? Why would you tell us to go through all the trouble of changing it, then tell us to use the original one that hasn't been changed.

Now onto problem 4
Problem 4:
You said: in both the save game file
What do you mean Both there is only one save file created and that is in the UDATA section on the E:drive of your System. So how and where are you getting that there are 2 saves sections with this game?

WTF is going on here.

You really have no clue as to how to explain anything do you?
Your still not making any sense about what the hell your talking about and your still not explaining anything (You may think you are but your not)

So here I'll simplyfy this for you:
I'll ask the questions and you answer them.
I have designed a questionaire of all the stuff that still has yet to be explained:
Using a pc mod you currently have on your x-box right now that works
as an example does someone want to fill out this questionaire

The reason I came up with this is because no one is answering anything That has to be answered

Question 1:
Do you have to edit the ini Yes or no (Just answer yes or no)
If yes then go to question 2: If not then skip to section 1 step 1

Question 2 If you do need to edit the ini
What are you typing, where are you typing it, and where are you getting the lines to type in it from.

Question 3.
Can you use a saved game to access the mods or does it have to be a new game evey time Just yes or no
All other info is just going to cludder my questions and that really don't need to added to your responses

Question 4:
When people say to start a game and then exit, what thay are not specifying is do you save the game first or do you quit the game right as it starts? ____________________________________________________________________

Step 1
What mod are you using where did you get it from

step 2
When you got the mod onto your computer you opened it what and how did you open it with

Step 3
You edited the mod how and what exactly did you change in the mod (What did you type where did you type it and how did you know what to type)

Step 4 Once it was edited and closed how did you close the edited mod

step 5.
You got the mod onto you x-box ( know how to do that)
Where on the xbox did you put the mod

step 6
Where in the section did you put it (In a folder in the directory ) Also define directory Because a game has multiple directories.

Step 7.
Lets say a mod has textures and other things like it, These need to go somewhere on your system so where do they go do they stay seperate do they need to be put together, do these be named anything in particular, if so what, and where does it go just give me a simple example of how to do this (And don't add any excess uneccessary things to this.......just keep it nice and simple)
____________________________________________________________________

Answer those and then and only then can you say you answered anything

grifter66, download this program, TESDTK, and read the read me. You will learn more if you read and go through the trial & error process yourself. Like I said it has been at least a year since I did any of this. I was once very new to this also. I will help where I can but I can't do it for you

Also read this:

Lepain

Pick out some mods you want.

Find TESDTK. READ THE README for info on how to use it. You will have to copy the morrowind.esm from the xbox to the PC for this. Remember to back it up.

Fire up TESDTK and load up a mods' esp (or esm) file with it.

If the mod has Tribunal or Bloodmoon dependancies, remove them so they are only dependent on morrowind.esm. Also change the version number so that it matches the morrowind.esm version. If you have any problems with this part READ THE README.

Turn on the xbox.

Load Morrowind

Turn off the xbox. This puts the morrowind game into the cache folders.

Look at the xbox files on your computer with whatever method you use to ftp.

The cache folders are either x, y, or z.

Find which one has the data files folder and the morrowind.esm.

Put the esp file you modified in the data files folder.

Go back to the spot with partition folders c,d,e,f,x,y,z.

Find which folder you put your xbox games in, either e or f.

Find the morrowind game and search its contents for a second data files folder.

If your mod had folders with it like textures, meshes, icons, etc... Put them in the data files folder.

I put the folders there to save room in the cache, which may reduce dirty disk errors while moving to new cells.

Fire up the xbox

Start a new game.

Look for some of the changes to verify that the mod works.

Repeat again for each mod. It sucks when you put a bunch of mods on at once and can't figure out which one is screwing your game.

This method has problems with mods that change dialogue. Topics will show up in the wrong spots and most of the time not at all. You'll find out what I am talking about if you can't get out of the Census and Excise office in Seyda Neen. It also seems that morrowind is picky with file extensions and textures that use non-unique filenames. Example, clothingpeicewhatever.dds and clothingpeicewhatever.bmp in the same folder may cause a rainbow effect. This is more common with the one million different head replacers that are out there. I'd just pick one that does it all and stay with it.

Thanks to Lepain for the above instructions

Edit:
BTW, I realize how overwhelming and frustrating this can be but hostility will not get you what you are after

I didn't want you to do it for me. I just needed the blanks filled in
This clears up most of what I needed to know.

Thank you.

I downloaded the TESDTK program.

As far as I'm concerned, this tool is either missing something or it doesn't work.
There is no file opener, no browse option.

The read me tells me nothing because it's just a bunch of pictures with symbols on them with no explanation of what they are or do.

I'm sorry but I can't make heads or tails out of this so your going to have to supply a step by step instruction from start to finish about how to use this.

I highly doubt anyone edited anything with this tool the way it is this has to missing something.

When I click the icon the screen looks like it's doing something and then nothing happens. So I don't know why you gave something that doesn't work and has no read me text to follow.
And booting up my x-box isn't going to help me understand th read me. So I don't know where that came from

WTF!!!

HOW MANY FRIGGIN TIMES AM I GOING TO HAVE TO KEEP ASKING FOR INSTRUCTIONS You said to go through trail and error.......HOW THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO GO THROUGH TRIAL AND ERROR WITH THIS I CAN'T EVEN GET IT TO WORK TO BEGIN WITH.

The above post is why I keep getting pissed off. This is fucking ridiculous, I shouldn't have to go through 19 replies to find out something out.

And yes I'm pissed...Because every single time for the past 16 times I've gotten info from people here and I think it's over Something else happens.
That is bullshit.

Sorry that was me venting...Ok I'm done now

My above post is crap just igmore it.

I have one question for you though:

You said this: Fire up and load up a mods' esp (or esm) file with it.

There is a problem with that you can't fire this up.....It doesn't let you. There is also no way to load a file with it so you can't just load up a file with it.

Which brings up this:
If the only way to change anything in a file is to have the file contents on screen to change, however if the program doesn't open up the file then you can't edit anything with it, which in turn renders it useless.

So therefore I'm right back to my original question of how do you get PC mods to work on the x-box.

So I'm going to list a breakdown of everyting that people have said here so far that I have done and hasn't worked:

1. Edit the ini file
2. Open the xbe file with a text editor
3. Edit the Morrowind.esm file with the TESDTK editor

It won't open it even after changing the esm to esp.
How do you use the TESDTK to open and edit a file?
When I downloaded it this is all it came with:

1. A folder titled README_IMAGES (There were only pictures with symbols on them in it)

2. An HTML document that has a MS paint symbol on it that I can't open no matter what I change it to (Notepad, wordpad, MS word, adobie, even MS paint.

3. A TESDTK application that when clicked or opened manually flashes the screen black for a split second and then nothing happens

If this is all you need or all this TESDTK comes with or is suposed to be then I don't know what good this does anyone or how anyone can do anything with this Considering there is no instruction with it and the application doesn't work.
