I will not flame but add some things to think about.

1. Flat panels are a matter of taste. Some people prefer them but others long for the clarity of a CRT.  In general, CRT's are considered to have a much better picture.

2. Lack of a high-speed cdr drive will drive you nuts. the A05 only burns cds at 12x

3. Dell tech support will tell you 2 things: 1. its a software issue. 2. Run the restore cd.  Alot of the phone support is farmed out to 3rd party call centers where they mesure your skill by call times, not if you know anything about computers. (I know, I use to work at one).

4. You are stuck with what Dell offers. there isnt any choice of motherboards, brand of drives (even though most Dells use Lite-on, best drive on the market), no choice of hd brand, bascially what they let you buy is what you get.

5. A geforce4mx card is a joke.

6. All Dells come pre-installed with a shitload of software you will never use, cuts system performance and bascially is always in your face to pay for an upgrade. There is NO way to get it any other way.

7. You don't get a windows cd, but just a restore cd.

8. Alot of people don't realise this, but the on-site service only does one thing: replace parts determined bad on the phone.  There is NO troubleshooting on site.  This can also result in you shipping back the system to dell (at your expense).

All these also apply to other major brands: gateway, micron, etc.

I think you are always beter off buying a system from a local  store where you can choose the components individually and you have someone to complain too face-to-face if it does not work.

I will say it again,Any brand name pc sux's shit and believe me as i have been a computer tech for 25 years now and i would never advise anyone to buy a brand name pc like dell,hp,ibm, compaq or any other brand, only buy clones as they use standard components.

Dells use non standard power supplies and instead of paying say $60AUD these arsehloes want $180 AUD for a simple power supply.

So please go ahead and buy a brand name pc but be prepared to pay lots more to repair these shit pc's mad.gif

I called dell and the guy GUARANTEED me i can throw any component in the machine i want and itll work,

This is a prime example of a salesman at his/her best!  This is PURE sales retoric and has no basis in reality whatsoever.  Dell, or anyone else for that matter, guarantees shit when it comes to compatibility. Everyone guarantees what they assemble but if you plug something into it that don't work, well..tough shit.

What he means is there is an agp slot, open pci slots and free drive bays.  Anything you put in or plug in SHOULD work. But if it does not, Dell shure as shit won't fix it for you under warranty.

Oh ya, one more point. There is no software warranty past 30 days. That means if windows crashes and dies, you gots to pay to have them work with you on the phone to fix it!

YOU LIE !!,
how can the Geforce4MX be a joke when most people cry their eyes out when they get their sub 6000 3dMark results with the 50% of the tests skipped because there is no DX9 support. It ain’t a joke, its a tragedy. sad.gif

Haha, dell tech support sucks.  First time I called I got a british guy... "well its bloody broken!" second time got an aussie...."alright mate send it in" and the last time I called it was a spanish guy....Im not trying to offend anyone or anything, but it would be nice if the spanish guy learned to speak some english....
