Title: Play With Patched Halo Cache Files W/out
Post by: Crystalman62 on May 25, 2004, 04:56:00 PM
I have a question that I couldn't find already posted in the forums. I was wondering if there was any way to keep halo from reading/writing the cache files on the X, Y, or Z drives. I like playing with the patched maps (you know the ones that change the skins and stuff) but I don't want to have to manually erase the cache files via ftp everytime I want to play the regular maps. Is there a way to put the patched maps on a disc so halo only runs those maps and not the temp ones in x, y, and z?

Look for a program called HCE .7 or Halo Cache Editor.  And no, I will not send it to you.  It is a program run from the Xbox to patch the cache files and other editing options are available.  Amazing customization abilities with this program.  You can store your .ppf's on the xbox HDD.  This program has changed my life and I hope it will change yours as well.

smile.gif describing what the mod is with the patched cache file in it.  Ex: F/a Halo Hacks/Blood Gulch/Jungle Gulch/cache003.

I personally use UnleashX as my primary dash, although you can also use Ava.  The just use the file explorer to transfer over the modified caches.  You could technically also use boXplorer but that would take longer.

Or if you've got a certain collection of mods that you use frequently, just make another copy of halo with the maps permanently modded.

Looks like someone's never heard of boxplorer before.

Thanks a bunch. I heard of the boxplorer method, but still I was wanting something more automated. But just today I made a backup with only the multiplayer maps permanently patched. It seems to work fine. I'll check out Halo Cache Editor. My friend has it but he didn't show me what all it does.
Thanks for the quick replies.

Yeah HCE is good because it automatically detects where the halo cache is and lets you edit it easily. I like how you can just press back and choose clear cache files and it will do it for you.
