What program are you using to back it to your HDD? When I first got it, I tried with dvd2xbox (latest version) and it went slow as hell after a while (can't remember what file, tho) and told me that it failed to copy 2 files after the process. I then decided to give UnleashX a try, and BANG! Went considerably faster (15 minutes opposed to 45 or something) and no error whatsoever. You should try that, too.
