The duckling was left by its mother so I took it home. It was taken to an animal shelter a couple of days ago where they will take care of it.

must have either left the lid off yours or you was broken into by a cat / lizard burglar that was a bit cold. Often they carry some Torx drivers with them and knew that xbox's run a tad warm. Seeing nobody was about he - or was it a she, proceeded to undo the screws - carefully trying not damage the 2 seals - not the animal kind but the labels underneath.
But what the lizard failed to notice that the xbox power supply was still live, unfortumate that he was little damp from coming in from the cold rain........
