anyone please, I need help.
I used EA Graphics Editor to export a xsh file to my comp then I used a hacked version of FSHed called XSHed to modify it. Everythings fine and well, but, now how do I get the modified xsh back into the viv?
EA Graphics Editor(EAGE)doesnt support xsh only fsh so it wont allow me to insert the xsh into the actors.viv file....anyone please, what am I doing wrong?

i would like to know as well... for ea sports nhl 06...
i need a program thats able to open .xsh files... i am able to extract .xsh files from .viv's.... but i cant open the .xsh. I know that in the .xsh files is just bmp or dds files.
Basically its just for texture editing... so i need something to open .xsh files
-
I am also looking for info on this subject. it seems when comparing pc files to xbox, the texture storage format is different.
pc= .fsh
xbox= .xsh
also the .o files are differently formated because of the hardware of the xbox versus the pc...
does anyone know of any apps to moddify either of these files?
-
Here is a link to fshx... its able to view .fsh files and then extract bmp/dds files from them.
.zip]Fshx Download
I did a ton of editing for nhl 06 on pc, it would be sweet to move all my work to the xbox version. All we need is a program able to read .xsh files since fshx cannot do it.

just a little update for you guys.
it seems FshEd is able to view xsh files as long as you rename them to .fsh
still no word on how to convert the .o files. I was able to find a little bit on how to export them to zmodeler but I haven't confirmed anything yet.
also, now that i re-read the original post...

sweet if fshed can read the xsh files i will try putting some new goalie pads in the game tonite and i will let you all know how it goes.
-
i did a little testing and so far the result after re-importing is the game crashes... But were getting closer.

You can extract the textures in the .xsh file with this tool but you have to be signed up to download it. Then you can edit the images inside. I set .xsh files to open with that tool so you just have to double click it to have it unpack into a folder. Then when you want to import the files back into the .xsh you just double click the index.xsh inside the folder. EA graphics editor should allow you to add .xsh back into a .big or .viv.
I know this from being a heavy modder of MVP Baseball 2005...
Also if you're looking for a version of fshed to work with .xsh files, there is one also located here.

does this game use the same type of .o files?
if so how did you handle them?

The pc version of these files and the xbox version of these files are different. We cannot edit the xbox ones due to not having an oedit for xbox. We had some progress with the creator making an xbox version of oedit but he could do what we wanted. There is no way at this point in time to edit the .orl, .ord, or .o files associated with xbox.

thanks for the help you far (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
I was also wondering if you've come accross this before.
I'll extract a xsh file straight from the xbox (stock file) and with NO changes, I'll try to rebuild the xsh file.
I get errors saying the bmp files need to be compressed. So I compressed them. (using BigGUI) Now I'm getting this error:
(IMG:http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/9330/dos22hb.jpg)
The file size IS a multiple of 4 though. This is were I'm getting lost...
Although vehicle mods are out of the question for NFS (due to the .o file incompatibility) track and car re-skins are still a possibility if we can get custom textures to run in the game.

Okay well you guys are talking about a .viv files right? and those are files that are in them? if so then the .viv is just like the umd, BF2 uses .viv, my friend hih6 made a .viv thing just like my app. It injects and Extracts.
-
basicly heres the setup where dealing with:
example:
XBOX
-------------------------
CAR.VIV-
Car.xsh
car.o
(some other stuff too)
----------------------
PC
-------------------------
CAR.VIV-
Car.fsh
car.o
(some other stuff too)
----------------------
and to open up the car.viv file, I've been using viv editor
the extract and import files
once we've extracted the car.xsh file, its another package to extract. This is the part where the incompatibility comes in.

This is the topic I started last week, and it seems that either no-ones reading it correctly or at the very least, not comprehending it.
This is what is possible and what I need help on:
you can extract viv files.
You can view and extract xsh filesfrom the viv files.
You can edit those same xsh files.
You can not put the xsh files back into the viv fies.
This is the problem.
-
Try a program called bigGUI for editing viv files (google for it). It's a no-BS type of tool that works perfectly.
-
that still doesn't help the xsh problem

In your conversion back to xsh, the file size is not the problem. It's the texture dimensions that need to be multiples of 4.

VIV is just another extension for an EA .BIG file
FIFAFS will pack the xsh back into the .VIV file
google fifafs it should be the 1st hit

I found a way to get the modified xsh back into the viv.
However, it makes the game crash when loading the fighters(modded textures)
I cant seem to get the xsh compressed back to its original size, its either a little bigger or a little smaller depending on what prog. i use and how I use it.....this may be hopeless
-
what game are modifying?
-
I've been testing with Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 but from what I've heard, the EA games use the same file structure. (or close to same)

For smaller files, as long as the tool you use replaces it into the same offset block it should be okay. But for bigger files, they wont fit in the slot and are usually moved to the end of the file (some tools put them at the end of the file regardless of if it fits or not). This can be a problem for some games.
Some of the newer EA games (not NFSHP2.. that's old), have something called a big header file (they can be found by looking for the .bh extension; they are sometimes all inside a .big/.viv file). This .bh file needs to be updated along with the viv/big file. We have a bh generator for PC FIFA 2005/06 and NHL 06 (the .bh formats for both games are quite different)... but chances are that their XBOX counterpart is similar if not the same. Not too sure what other games make use of these header files.
Compression is another issue. EA makes use of a modified LZ scheme. Sometimes files inside a big/viv can be compressed, and sometimes the entire big/viv can be compressed. If you use something like bigGui, you can see if the file is compressed or not and unpack/pack it.

I tried using fixbig2005 and the GenBh prog. that come with it. GenBh will create a .bh file but it doesnt seem to work, or more likely that may be one of the many problems thats keeping this expirement from working...or not. I dont know, and I give up......came close....just doesnt work....yet

fixbig and genbh are only for FIFA 2005/06. I dont think they'll work with other games.
