Come on, surely there's some Ninja Gaiden owners out there who want to help in doing away with the stupid censorship this game has received in its PAL incarnation?

I'm pretty sure it would be a simple case of changing 2 or 3 files max between versions, perhaps very fixable with a PPF patch!!

I second that emotion. Since when do we get this overprotective censorship-crap in Europe too? I'm a sensible, responsible adult and I want to CUT SOME FRICKIN' HEADS like right now.

I hate to say it cuz I dont know anything about it..but I doubt somebody will make a ppf patch that will make it uncensored. Why not just play the ntsc version, you have a modded xbox I would assume if you want a game with a patch, so why not jus play the ntsc game.

Because I've got the PAL version now, and I dont want to have to go through the hassle of importing the US version. If anyone has the US version and is willing to send me a list of all the files in the game dir and their sizes in bytes I will look into making such a patch myself...

I don't think so, but such illegalities would essentially keep me impotent from changing a game BACK to how its author's originally intended. As such I see no harm in acquiring such infringing material - although having said that I'm not even requesting anything just yet. All I'm asking for is a txt file or a bunch of jpgs so I can see the filesizes of the NTSC version's files - and can compare them with the PAL version I own to see exactly what was changed and if uncensoring the PAL version is even plausible!

Can anyone help me out?

Please don't get high and mighty about infringment of copyright, when issues over censorship come into play; what's more important being imposed upon, or further lining of corporate pockets? If you disagree don't get involved.

I think it will probably be a bit more complicated than just replacing a few files because the game is linked to specific files that link to other specific files (and offsets in those files) which would all need editing to just replace files.  If you were just replacing videos that would be different.  Now depending on how far the developers got into the game development before the censorship became an issue, you might be able to just hex a few files and make it work.   Start out by opening the xbe in a hex editor and scanning over the whole thing for any reference to "decapitation" "decapitate" "animation" or possible "00000000" or "FFFFFFFF"  as these would probably be how they would cancel something out.  (At least, thats how bungie canceled out stuff they had originally intended to be in Halo but later removed to speed development.)  I'll take a look at the game directories overview in a bit and see what I find.

Most likely the actual decapitation wasn't programmed into the PAL Ninja Gaiden, and if so, it probably won't be easy to incorporate.  Your best bet is to see if Gamefly will work in your area and see if you can request an NTSC version specifically and if that doesn't work, get one of your game friends in America (or Japan) to "loan" theirs to you and you pay the shipping.

deliver the killing blow with the "flying swallow", or run along a wall and press Y, or hold down y for a while, and release.  If its the killing blow, their heads will fly, and blood will spurt like a fountain.     just like in kill bill

I just fomatted so my share is a bit low.
I looked around where I could, but have not found it yet.
If I do find it I also I have a server that I could throw it on for a short time
I will PM if this is the case.

A properly timed charged blow (hold down Y till your sword glows blue) will decapitate.
I have gotten this down pretty good. I can clean the heads off of most everyone in the first level on the first hit

Ok good news! I have the 13mb RAR file so I no longer need anything e-mailed to me!! However was unable to get the NFO. Anyone who is being kind enough to search for me, all I need now is the NFO which will hopefully include instructions exactly how to use the files and the PPF that are in the RAR file and NFO files are tiny so it shouldn't take 2 seconds to download!

PM or post the details up here if you get it. Posting NFO details is hardly against forum policy, especially as Xbox-Scene post NFO scene release info on their main site it'd be kind of hypocritical of them to kick off about it!

As for the nfo you shouldn't need it. If the file is a .ppf as you said then you just need the PPF Patch Engine. I won't post a link cus i am new to the forums and not sure if this is allowed.

Thing is, as I actually bought the game I never have had an ISO of it - which I assume is what the PPF is applied to (unless its applied to the default.xbe, I dunno without the NFO).

I'm thinking the best step from here is to just try making my own xISO from the PAL game and trying the PPF with that.

The ppf file included it's only if you downloaded the DVD9 GP release, so for you and me it is useless.

All the other complex procedures and bla, bla, bla, only come to say you have to overwrite some files of your game with the six .asf files included in the package.

I have tried this and it works.... partially, the files provided are the character data files (Decapitable enemies) but there is no hacked file provided to allow me decapitate the "grey throwing explosive darts ninjas" and i don't know if there is more enemies that are missing hecked files for decapitation.

I cannot get into www.ninjahacker.net, if someone knows all the .asf files of the dacapitable enemies of the game, plz, tell me.

EDIT: I was wrong, these "grey throwing explosive darts ninjas" are decapitable with the patch, it didn't worked the first time because the game was reading the files from the cache until i realized that. So clear ninja gaiden cache (X, Y or Z drives) after aplying the hacked files. Works flawlessly, exactly as it was in the ntsc version.

Glad everyone's got it working ok, I had the same problem not clearing my cache of files - thought it hadn't worked!

So, lemme see if I get this right. You can just leave your PAL backup on the hard disk, all you have to do is overwrite six .asf files and clear the cache. Can anything go wrong doing this? My original disc is badly scratched  :rolleyes:

Um, I never even use Craxtion. I just copy the entire DVD to my HDD with BoXplorer. I have about 40 backups on there and they're all running just fine, including Ninja Gaiden. Would I still have to change the .xbe file? These aren't real cracks are they?

I know there are six files i think in the patch that replace files in the game.

Are these files from the NTSC version of the game. If they are could someone list the files because i have the american version and i could take them from this game and add them to my pal version.

For some reason the NTSC version doesn't run at the proper speed when i play it on my xbox. It runs at proper speed when i change to a NTSC eeprom but the picture is black and white.
