1. The Black Art of Xbox Mods
Author: Mario "Whatnot" Degovia
Media: Paperback (416 Pages)
Release Date: 23 July, 2004
Release Price: $24.99 US
ISBN: 0672326833
Other: Most sites list the author of this book as Whatnot, but one notes that it is by Mario Degovia.
2. Xbox Hackz and Modz
Author: David Franson
Media: Paperback (315 Pages)
Release Date: December 2005
Release Price: $29.99 US
ISBN: 1592000894
Other: Although most sites will tell you that it can be shipped when it publishes, most professional "books in print" services will tell you that the publication has been cancelled. It's uncertain whether we will ever see this one.
My main concern with both books is that they won't tell us anything that we don't already know.. or that they are basically a collection of tutorials in book form that costs money.
I'll still buy both if they come out though B)
-
I'll buy them, when they come out of course!
-
Could be interesting. I read "Hacking the Xbox" when it first came out. That was a great read. I learned a ton from that book, not only about the Xbox but about reverse engineering and electronic engineering as well.
I hope these new booksk are as interesting as they sound and not, like brahm2 said, a collection of tutorials.
-
buy them so x-s tut authors can class action them if they copy the tuts word-for-word
-
I don't think anyone who publishes a book on a topic as "touchy" as Xbox modding wants to add copyright infringement onto a long list of legal problems for themselves.. by book of tutorials I meant tutorials that have already been perfected by others, but have been published in the author's own words (and images).
-
yeah, but still, i'd laugh if they did, then get mad, thenmand lthen laugh again
-
"hackz" and "modz" oh geeze... script kiddie alert!
Whatnot's book should be OK though. Bunnie's book was great for the newbie, the casual hacker and the more experienced hacker.
-
yeah, lets hope those "z"s came from the marketing people...
-
I still have to buy Bunnies book.. I might order it this week i dont mind reading something i enjoy reading about :).
If the other 2 come out i will buy those as well
-
Never got around to order bunnies book.
Gotta do it soon....
-
it would be sweet if X-S published a big full color book of tutorials and sold it through X-S only and used the money only for site running purposes. I'd buy one eventhough i'd prefer the online reading method just to support X-S. Its probably moreso touching on copyright issues so i doubt something like that would happen.
-
Looks like a pretty low budget production.
I doubt either contain any information one can't find online gratis.
-
We'll see.
I'll post a review when I buy a copy :)
