Title: Getting Downloadable Content
Post by: Th3_H0unD on December 18, 2003, 04:35:00 PM
How can one that does NOT have Live! get the downloadable content that are out for certain games ? IE Ghost Recon Island Thunder, RS3 Crimson Skies etc. ? Is it possible ? I don't want to go out and buy a copy of OXM for the $12 that it cost cause well it's not worth it for 1 extra level. There must be a way ! Help

Um... you answered the only way to do that. Congrats. I really don't like being an ass about it, but sometimes it can't be helped.

From everything I've read in the past, it's not currently possible to rip XBLive! content from one xbox and place it on another, even when we know what files they are. At least I've not seen anyone posting about making it work.

And OXM is the only known non-XBLive! carrier of XBLive! content.

I'll suggest getting OXM, cause it's a decent mag, and the demos are a nice plus.

Ya but the time I get the mag i've played the demos but they are no longer a demo... it is a great mag but I can't justify paying the $12.99 can for it... Now i'm not worried about getting it to work if I knew what the files were I could write an installer and get it to work I just need the dang files... I don't mind spending the time I just need some more technical info on it is all.

Content can not be shared. It is specific to the Xbox it was downloaded to.

If you want the content without Live, get the OXM magazine. Also, there is a Rainbow Six 3 demo disc out that has content for Island Thunder and Splinter Cell.

Y a that's the one I have I just don't think that it is specific to each xbox.... There has to be another way. I live by "It's not impossible just improbable" So there has to be a way... besides like I said earlier $12.99 is alot for just 1 or 2 extra levels on a game don't you think ?

No, there is not a way. Xeero and I tried it, but no luck (and so did others)

12.99 (9.99 US) is a very nice price for a DVD with:

Rainbow Six 3 demo
Splinter Cell demo with THREE Live levels on it
Island Thunder demo with FOUR non-Live levels on it
Ghost Recon demo

What what what ? Why don't you just grab the installer right off the disc and do it that way ?

Can you share any info you learned when you tried it?

xboxfrizzy probably isn't too far off in assuming it has something to do with the eeeprom.   I would also guess that it has something to do with the HD ID too.  (Since I believe my downloaded content showed up as corrupted after I installed a larged HD...same eeprom though...)

Plus, wouldn't it be feasible to pull the updater off of one of those OXM discs?  It's probably possible to pull one of those apart and see how and where the content is copied over.

No, that is impossible. The content can not be transfered to a memory unit, and worked on another Xbox.

Would it be possible if you put the eeprom of the xbox with download content on your xbox,  then transfer the content?

You can not transfer the content. When you do, the files become corrupted.

I will say it again. The ONLY way to get Xbox Live content, is from Live itself or OXM magazine. Content can not be copied to a memory unit, copied via XBSM, etc.

The content is specific to the Xbox system it was downloaded to.

Correct. You can use someone else's gamertag on your Xbox (with their agreement of course), download the content, and then delete the gamertag. The content will still be there, too.

my guess is the game checks for the installed xbl accounts and if the one it was downloaded is there (along with the right eeprom) it will work.

No. You can get the content from Live, and then delete the account. The content will still work.

Trust me, it isn't that simple.

But anyways, that idea doesn't make sense. Content can not be copied to a memory unit or to your PC. So.. I do not know what you really mean. As there is no way to get the content onto another XBox from another Xbox without it being corrupted.

It's fine for right now..  I guess.

I think it shouldn't be allowed anymore because no one will expect that it is impossible. Say all the buts you want, but the bottom line.. it will not work.

See I have to believe that It can be done since that the installer for live and oxm are different installers. Second off well it's a file after all right there is no app running if you image the disc before it runs... so in theroy you should be able to make an image of the OXM disc  then do what ever the f*&k you want with it. There is no way as far as I know to protect a file on a READ ONLY disc to protect itself something needs to run so if nothing is run then what's the problem ? Image the disc and rip that folder out and BAMMMM that's it presto ! I think in fact I know that it can be done. Now as far as putting live account info on a mem unit yes I do have one but that would involve re-flashing my tsop to a something other then x2-4977 and locking the HD. It is not something that I wish to do !

Understand this.

MS and their brains > You

That is why backups will never work on Live for example. If anyone figures it out, MS will fix the problem. Same with getting "free" content.

If you say that, and you said this twice, nothing is impossible... then fly to Jupiter in 1/2 second, give birth to a baby on Jupiter by yourself, raise the baby on Pluto, and then fly back to Earth in less than 1/2 second, and start a new alien population.

Remember, you said nothing is impossible!  laugh.gif

Didn't M$ say that it was going to be IMPOSSIBLE to hack the Xbox?

Probably somewhere in the future (if humanity doesn't wipe itself out first), it will be possible to transport to Jupiter in .5 seconds, either through matter-energy conversion, a wormhole effect, or acceleration past 10x the speed of light. (although, I don't know why you'd want to go there because there is nowhere to stand.) Then through the mircales of genetics you could, conceive a baby by yourself, and then go to Pluto (which I think is still in discussion on whether or not it's really a planet) and raise that alien baby.
It's just not possible RIGHT NOW. (and probably not in our lifetimes either...)

How the hell did we get to talking about creating a new alien race here ?

Ya M$ said "It will be impossible to hack the XBOX" And umm look were it is at now.

Another thing look at all the people that don't pay for windows cause they are
too dam cheap and they get the windows updates for free. If M$ can protect downloadable
content then why haven't they protected that yet hmmm. So I have to say it again
It is possible. Just nobody has figured it out yet is all and well i'd like to be apart
of it.  So let's start talking about location of the files after it's installed on the xbox.

The content is specific to the EEPROM of the Xbox. I have done a test before.

1) Download Kola Cell with EEPROM 1.
2) Flashed Xbox with EEPROM 2.
3) Content disappeared in the game.
4) Flashed Xbox back with EEPROM 1.
5) Content re-appeared in the game.

What carries the protection, is it something that is downloaded or is it the origional game? Is the game xbe replaced by an updated version?

Anyone experienced with cracking here? Just convert the xbe to an exe using cbx and try and find all the protection routines, work out what patches need to be made and make the equivalent to the xbe.

Crooklynkat has the right idea cause I tried it with Ghost Recon Island Thunder I had an OXM disc with 2 levels on it.
Installed it on my xbox.... ftp'd in to my xbox found the files and sent to my roommates xbox and played the game and those 2 extra levels were there on his and they work.

Well that's interesting.  I wonder if content off the OXM disc is different than downloaded content.

I have downloaded content on one of my xboxs, and i tried using XBSM to copy it over to my other xbox and I also tried using FlashFXP to copy the folder over from Tdata.  Both times I received the 'corrupted data' error when trying to load it.  (and this is also content from GRIT)

Unless I missed some of the data...  I think there was just one folder out of TDATA for GRIT.  What files did you bring over?

The folder in my case was 55530007 is that the same as yours ?
Within that folder i have a file XboxOptions.dat
and a folder $C within that folder is 2 more 5553000700000001 and 5553000700000002

The files in the first one are as follows
contentimage.xbx
ContentMeta.xbx
d02_refinery.rsb
d02_refinery_sky.pob
directory.txt
dl_xd02_brfg-box.rsb
dl_xd02_shots.rsb
dyn_grass_a_xd06.qob
dyn_grass_b_xd06.qob
strings_1_en.res
strings_1_fr.res
strings_1_gr.res
xd02_refinery.env
xd02_refinery.glb
xd02_refinery_dcm.mis
xd02_refinery_dcm_chars.glb

The second folder is

contentimage.xbx
ContentMeta.xbx
directory.txt
dl_xd01_brfg-box.rsb
dl_xd01_shots.rsb
strings_0_en.res
strings_0_fr.res
strings_0_gr.res
xd01_beach_dcm.mis
xd01_beach_dcm_chars.glb

I'm hoping that is the same for you. Was yours from the OXM disc as well or XBLive! ?

Yup, that was the folder I grabbed. 55530007 with a folder inside $C.
I didn't look at all the file particulars, but I just took that whole folder and transferred it from one xbox to the next.

Mine was Downloaded from Live. It is the Oil Refinery Level.
The folders inside $C must contain the level info.  I haven't checked, but I probably only have 1 folder inside $C.

And the xboxs you are using have different eeproms?
What did you use to transfer the data?

Hmm, well it sounds as if the content you have isn't eeprom specific like the actual downloaded content.  Maybe they had to leave that off of the OXM discs?

When I get some time this week (still gotta finish holiday shopping and all...) I'll see if I can get both version of the content and then compare them.

The other thing I plan on doing is making a backup of my HD and then downloading the content and then comparing to see what files are new and what has changed. I'll also grab the files from my other xbox and compare them to the new ones I downloaded to see if they vary.

And yes, I understand that getting the OXM discs is probably the easiest way to get downloadable content, but that's not really the point.

Ok, I have decided to lock this thread.

Content from Live is not free. If you are trying to figure out how to hack it to make it work on other Xboxes, Xboxes without a paying Live account, that is illegal.

Any problems with me locking this thread, contact an admin.
