maybe if someone figured out how to make astound media files, u could just make them and rename them to the same file on the xbox....im sure there must be a public way, or at least some way to get the toolz the ppl at astound use...

maybe it can be done... its a 2-step process... first you convert your music files to the .asf format, then use the Music importer program to compile all of the files into a single .asf file

has anone used both of the programs?

i.e. NFSU Music Importer.exe and MCO Music Importer.exe

To run NFSU Music Importer.exe you need the full pc version, but i'm guessing you may be able to get away with just having the registry entries....

anyone able to run NFSU Music Importer.exe ???

Has anyone tried copying the game to their xbox HDD then ftp'ing the whole game over to your pc and running NFSU Music Importer.exe to see if it recognizes the xbox version of the game. If it does, you may be able to then import your music and ftp the converted files back to your xbox.... just thinking out loud.... might try this when I get home (at work at the moment)....

does anybody know how to convert those EA .asf files back to wav after they're  extracted from the STRM_Music_UGO_MB.ast ?

i extracted the files with the Extractor 2.4 from this site:
http://www.volny.cz/nova-software/
i think this tool just looks for the headers of the files, which means that the audio tracks are not compressed or encrypted....
also,  the 27 extracted tracks and the STRM_Music_UGO_MB.ast have almost the exact same size.
i think the files are just stacked...

I have successfully created an extractor for the music in nfsu about 6 months ago, but i could never get an importer to work, so there wasn't a big announcement for the program.  EA uses its special codecs, and i'm no audio file wiz, so i don't know how the encode the audio.  I know all about the archive format and another library file that you need to edit to insert sound tracks.  The only problem i have is finding EA's audio codec.  If anyone has any info on it, let me know.

Hello smile.gif, Is there a way 2 edit the music in nfsu. I love the game , but some of that music is awefull. I would love to add my own music ..like the 2fast 2 furious music soundtrack. That would better fit this type of game than those other songs (what was EA thinkin) . So i would like some help r info r both on the subject  @ hand. Thanks smile.gif

I wanted to change the music too, so i put the game on the xbox hard drive and browsed the files but could'nt find the music files anywhere. I found the engine sounds and sound effects folder but it looks like the actual music has been hidden. Anyone else found anything?

Yeah i tried looking for the music aswell, but didnt find it anywhere. It shouldnt be hidden to well.  But i guess if u find it and rename ur own music to what ever it is it should work, considering if their actual songs are in WMA or WAV..

the STRM_AMB_Stereo_MB.ast file 113MB
and the STRM_Music_UG0_MB.ast file is 144MB

You can just rip a CD to the Xbox hard drive using the M$ dash. Then, pause the game and go to music options and soundtracks. Your ripped CD should be available for selection.

have you even played the game?  nfsu does not have that option.

i dunno if this helps but when i was in the ps2 scene the music was all compressed into a file like the one youre talkin about and a guy had 2 make an extractor and rebuilder to put our own music into it.  my 2 cents

ya they could be but it doesnt matter.  if you guys have read the posts before i said all the files are grouped into 1 file and you would have to build a program for every different file to extract/rebuild. (Ex: tonyhawkmusicfile.raw 210MB, you would have to make a program for that,  tonyhawk2musicfile.raw 210 you would have to make a different program for that also)

^ when you open the main executable it looks for NFSU installed on your computer. if it isnt, the program closes itself. if someone could decompile that program, we might be onto something. good find either way.

smile.gif, Well.. I downloaded the files and proceeded to import/convert. The files are in ast extention on the xbox version so i renamed it to that ext. It didn't work. I tried the different types that it specified DDMX/DDMZ/DCRZ/DBOS & User. None of those worked. From what i can tell this is a ps2 port of the game cause it uses the same files. The importer is designed for the PC version asf format not the ast (PS2/XBOX) format. So, where do we go from here ?
