Title: Any Get 100mbps Transfer?
Post by: domerdel on April 02, 2004, 08:07:00 AM
I forgot to mention, if you go to Best Buy's Website, they advertise an Xbox brand of network cable, that says it can do both.

Not sure about the router thing, only thing i can suggest is seeing if it supports 100.
And the xbox network cable thing they sell, don't bother buying it. Its the same as any other cat5 cable, just has an inflated price on it.

well, if youre talking ftp transfer it could depend on what dashboard you're using. i seem to recall that one of the versions of evox had a bug in the ftp protocol that messed with the speed. so you could try using avalaunch or something else.

this cable is cat5e, tested it on other networks, and it runs at the full 100mbps

My machine to router is reading 100MBPS transfer (network connections).

tried 3 different cables from router to xbox

Xbox is capable of getting 100MBPS

I have a Linksys Wireless-G router.

Everything seems up to date. Anyone out there getting 100MBPS transfers via FlashFXP or any other app?

As stated somewhere here on the forums, 100mbps is different than 100MBps.  Megabits and Megabytes are different amounts.  I am unsure of the specific relation but 100megabits per second is about 14megabytes per second.  That may not be the acutal numer, but you will NEVER see over 20MBps transfer speeds.  The network capabilities just aren't there.

100mb links throughtput is about 50mbs... as for transfering files and writing them to a hard drive 10-30mbs is average.

ohh and your on wireless.

802.11g = 54mbps

throughtput = 27mbps

your speeds should be in the 5-15mpbs range.

With AVALaunch, using boost mode, you'll see your speeds average about 8.5 - 9.5 Megabytes/sec. Theoretical max. throughput of a single 100 megabit node is 12.5 Megabytes/sec.

yes, 8 bits = 1 byte.

The best I've seen is 10MBps, although I've had it vary widely based on the HD used (same PC, same cable, same xbox, different HD).

FlashFXP to evox i get about 7.5 to 10 MB per sec.
that's wired ethernet, going through a 4port switch and then to xbox.

shouldn't expect much faster, but as-is that's damn fast. Enough to copy a VCD in about a minute. good stuff.

(FTP is M U C H slower if you have a lot of small files instead of one big file.)
there is supposed to be a new transfer mode in avalaunch that makes these types of sends faster, but I don't use avalaunch so... meh... oh well.

That fastest I've even seen a network file transfer to any device was around 9mg/s

There are alot of things that factor in to speeds. Cable length, how many hubs or switches, their brand, temp of the two devices sending and received data, temp of the hubs or switches, HDD temps and speeds, how many things the two devices are doing, the list gos on and on.

you know i never even thought twice about it. my xbox, running avalaunch and qwix, across a 100mbps network only transfers at about 8-9mbps average, peaks at about 30-40mbps (when i transfer games from xbox<-->pc).  the cables i have are all cat5e.  what programs do you use that connect faster?
