Title: Generic Boxart/cartart Project
Post by: ressurectionx on July 08, 2009, 01:11:00 AM
Hey guys (especially my man Gilles),

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in creating generic artwork for all of the systems we're making artwork packs for.  I was thinking somewhere along the lines of Generic Boxarts and Carts that could have displayed on them somewhere phrases like "Prototype", "Pirate", "No Boxart Available".

Now that this Enhanced Artwork thing has come along, it would be great to have something dipslay for every rom, even if we can't find the boxart/cart or there wasn't one available as in the case of many prototypes or pirate carts.

I was thinking about starting with NES, Atari 2600 and SNES.

What do you think?

hehe...  You must have been reading my mind...

Also at some point we are gonna have to discuss differences between box sizes (USA/EU vs JP) and in some cases cart art and boxes.  Example for cart-art vs boxes would be the SMS, although the carts are not exactly anything to look at.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

I'm thinking lazy here... So I figured let the skin definition have four size/locations for this stuff?

1 and 2 would be for Box art definitions.
3 and 4 would be for Cartridge art definitions.

The skin author could define how each size definition works.

Use Boxart size/location 1 when (width>height, width=height, width<height)
Use Boxart size/location 2 when (width>height, width=height, width<height)
Use Cartart Size/location 1 when (width>height, width=height, width<height)
Use Cartart Size/location 1 when (width>height, width=height, width<height)

So what do you all think?  Gilles?

We're not talking 2 new directories, right?  It would be two different ratio definitions for each directory (boxart/cartart)?

If that's the case I think it's a GREAT idea.

Post by: madmab on July 09, 2009, 11:55:00 PM
Yeah it would just be one directory and the skin author can create two locations to display the cartridge art and specify where to put it based on whether the width is greater than the height, etc.  Kinda like a customizable option.

Right now the cart location/size is shared with the boxart location/size..

I do like that image, but I was thinking for each system to have something stylized to look like the standard boxarts for each system.  I know with NES there may not exactly have been a standard, but if you look at SNES boxarts or Master System boxarts it's really easy to see what I mean.  (I figure for NES, it would be cool to use the Super Mario I, Duck Hunt, Hogan's Alley black boxarts)

I've changed my mind on the carts though.  Even on systems I wasn't able to collect much boxart on, it looks good having the Action/Title alternate with just the box displaying.  I think it would look pretty stupid to alternate to a "no Cart Available" image when you could just have the Boxart up there the whole time.  I know I wouldn't like that.

Sounds great Madmab.  I was actually going to bring that up to you at some point but I figured you had enough on your plate now.  Glad to see you don't think it should be too hard to implement.

Yo my pals, i'm on a 3 days trip in great britain (in france we call the british guys the "rosbeefs"). So i answer shortly;
In all the dynamic skins i have created a "missing boxart" sprite for each system, and for each system, if you don't have any boxart, the skin will display the "missing boxart" (if you are using a pre made config with "boxart" in its name), the missing boxart is always a sort of "neutral" boxart, i was aware of this problem before making the skins.

p.s.: the good news in all of this is i have finished the work on the nes synopsis! Now i can go back with my first love, the skin creation! I m working on the next series of dynamic skins (i know there is a lot to do to complete  the pm3 ones!). What is cool is the "rombrowser", "boxart" and "screenshot/movie" squares are transparents! (.png pics), so the users will be able to set them where they want, plus they will be able to choose themself wichever 640*480 background they want (in this case i chose a metroid background).
We will be able to bring some really cool stuff with the new dynamic skins system.
Example of my future metrid dynamic skin for snes9xbox (rombrowser square on the left, screenshot/movie on the upper right, boxart on the bottom right; boxart and screenshot are at the correct pixel ratio)

Sweet looking skin man.  Castlevania and Metroid always make for the best game skins in my opinion.

Unfortunately, the boxarts in the skins won't work for us Gilles.  In order to use them, you have to have Boxes and carts that are identical in size all across the board.  If by chance the artwork isn't all the same (and by certainty when madmab makes the 2 ratios per boxart/cartart for japan games and carts that don't match the boxart size), then when the box isn't completely covered by the artwork you will see the edges of the images you've created behind the artwork.

Anyways.... I'm going to see if I can come up with a crappy rendition of what I'm talking about.  Think it would be cool to have images for each category such as prototypes, hacks, etc. using a Boxart type theme for each system.

This was originally just an email to Gilles, but I want to keep it here so this stuff is transparent.  I'd like to see what ideas if any the community comes up with.....

QUOTE
Hey Gilles,

You ever think about what I posted in the thread for the missing Boxart project?

I'm really thinking we need something like this for all of the systems because there are certain categories that just don't have any boxart and a very small amount of licensed games that there just is no boxart for.

I was thinking having boxart that is generic as possible, with the style of the system's boxart like this:

(IMG:http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/4931/smbprotoype.jpg)

I think it would be even better if we removed the Mario picture and just had a white border with a black background with the words inside of it.

I was thinking that we need boxarts that say the following for most systems:

"Prototype"
"Unlicensed"
"Original Homebrew"
"No Boxart Available"

We wouldn't need one for "Hacks" because I've been using the original game's boxart for all hacks.

I would then add the appropriate image to every game in the Xtras so we never have a blank space while scrolling through our roms.  I would then update the Boxart packs one final time with these new images.

We really need something like this because it will greatly improve the look of the Xtras sets.  I know you made those images in the skins, but with the different sizes of the images, we'll see that background on the edges of images that don't take up the entire box (example: The Japan SNES boxart).

Thanks man.  I hope you agree and come up with something great like you always do.

FROM GILLES:  Ah! ok resX! i just didn't understand immediatly!
ok, good idea, it's clear now, it will be boxart for the homebrew/prototypes, etc... for the Xtras!
I think a size of 400 pixels height or widht max would be great for them.
I will work with photoshop to provides some good ones for all the systems.
Excellent idea and totally agree now, some pearls need "at least" a blank boxart!

Great to hear you're on board man!

Very important thing, I think.

Right now, I am looking for the following systems since the artwork is either done or very near completion:

NES
Atari 2600
SNES
Atari 7800
Lynx
Genesis
Atari 5200/800

Prolly in that order would be best too.

Thanks a ton and hope to see your work soon.

Damn dude.... you're a genius!

That's better than anything I was even considering.

Could you make one for "No Boxart Available" as well since occasionally for these systems there is actually some licensed games that no boxart can be found for?  That would probably be the least used one, but there would be a use for it on rare occasion.

Now I have a dilemma....

It's always been my policy to use the original title's boxarts for rom-hacks.  Every Xtras release has this.  Now I'm wondering if I should keep them the way I have them or use your rom hack image.

I'm thinking that when you make the SNES and Atari 2600 ones that you could use the exact same images for the different categories and just drop them into SNES style boxes and 2600 style boxes.  You could actually do that for every system, but those are the next two we'll need.

Great work man,

It would be a crazy job to create one different boxart for each of the 3000 hacks for the differents systems and in that case i would certainly finish my life in an psychiatric hospital!
That's why i create those "generic" boxarts,
what would be your favorite for "rom hack"? 1,2 or 3?
Let me know 'cause i will have to create some for the other systems
(i think a wizard is appropriate, because after all, the rom hackers are some great wizards eh!)

Ha.... I actually like (1) the best myself  cool.gif

I think the wizards are good for the hacks too.  Takes a little bit of coding wizardry to get that done.

I'm still unsure that I will use a generic hack boxart in my packs though Gilles.  Currently I use the original rom boxart for all the hacks and I think it looks quite good  (Granted it may be a little confusing for people if they just have all of their roms thrown in one folder instead of separating them into categories like me).

I think this would only be used on the rare instance of a hack of a pirate/prototype like the hack I have in the NES set for Kart Fighter.

Still haven't made up my mind on that.

I knew there was no way you were going to do one boxart for each game.  You haven't been around a while so I figured you could just say how crazy that would make you when you got back.

If you had the time I'd LOVE to see the SNES versions soon.  I plan on doing a huge overhaul on that artwork pack and it would be nice to get these in there on the first try.

GREAT WORK!!!!

p.s.: I'm using them on my xbox, and you are right, it looks better to have them instead of a "blank" boxart.

I bet they do man.  I can't wait to get them integrated in the official sets.

I'm sooooo behind on that and other things people have been sending me.  I still have nearly 100 new SNES videos from Stupot1 as well as the remaining NES videos.  Plus I've got PSX videos from Nate and pCe to get in there, and 30 new GBC videos from our newest helper bc54.  Then I have to upgrade the artwork packs to the HQ boxart for NES and SNES and then somehow I have to figure out the best way to convert the finalized SNES set to work with ZSNESXBox too.  (run made the XPORT pack from my ZSNES pack originally.  I never thought I'd actually be going back and re-doing that).

So... Now that I should be wrapping up the NES synopsis some time tonight I hope to complete the NES artwork pack using your badass images here.

Only one thing we forgot.........   A basic "No image available" or "No Boxart Available" or somthing like that.  Every once in a while we get a straight up official game that nobody can find the boxart for.  Maybe not much on NES or SNES, but I'm willing to bet there are a few on Genesis and more than a few on the Atari systems, especially 2600.

Any ideas for that image?

BTW... where did you get the image for that guy on the prototypes.  It's priceless.  And it's perfect for this project.

Oh.... along with the "No Boxart Available" box, or whatever we're calling it, I have a special request for just the NES.   I have a category called "Pirate Fighters".  This is for all of the Mortal Kombat and Tekken type pirates out there.  There are probably 30 or more of these.

Got any pictures of Pirates kicking each others faces in?   cool.gif

EDIT:  Oh crap... we'll need an "Unlicensed" category too.  A lot of unlicensed games, especially US ones have boxart, but there are quite a few that don't.  Should we just use the above "No Boxart Available" for them?  Probalby...

EDIT 2:

Pirates is perfect, The Screamer was definitely a great choice.  I love both of the images, but I think the squad car would be the way to go.  I'd laugh everytime I saw that picture, but I'm trying to keep everything relatively PG (taking great percautions to put adult games in a separate category.... mostly FDS Japan Pr0n and foul mouthed romhacks).

Great work man.   This is exactly what the packs needed.

I also couldn't find boxart for these so far either:

Manchester United Championship Soccer
Waterworld

As far as I know, they're both official releases too...  (Dont' know if you want to do artwork for those games or the "No Boxart Available".

That should probably be the last of them though since I've gone through all the official releases.

Great idea with the BS artwork too.  I just noticed that going through them last night and I've actually been using the image you put in that pic as 0004.png for all these games.  Now I can delete those and use your boxart.  Just have to figure out which ones need it again.

Great work man!  And quick too  cool.gif

Yep... I believe that's everything I need to make a complete set now.

I'm not off to the races on getting any new releases out yet but I'll just say that I'm VERY close to having the NES, SNES and Genesis fully up to code with perfect artwork sets and synopsis' (all the HD stuff we could find replacing low res or nasty looking boxes, your generic boxarts for every game that I couldn't find either a boxart or a cart for).  Of course, there is a video for every game as well (except for a few requests and any new games that come in).

I'm holding off on any releases for the moment because Stupot1 and I keep finding just a few more to add all the time.  I'm definitely getting them prepped for a final release though.

Thanks for the great artwork Gilles, and thanks for all the vids and new games for the project Stupot1.  Hopefully there aren't as many games to add to SNES and Genesis as there were for the NES.  I don't think there will be though since the pirate and hack scene wasn't as crazy for either of those systems.

Thanks guys,
~Rx

EDIT:
QUOTE
for the unlicensed games (not many i think, steven seagal?)

Nah... That's a prototype game.  There's only two Unlicensed games that I'm even aware of that don't fall into the "Pirate" category.  They're Noah's Ark 3D which we already have boxart for and then some unique little puzzle game from Japan called "Gamars Puzzle" that I couldn't find any boxart for.

Two things I factor in when deciding if a game is truly unlicensed or a pirate:

1) If it was made in US or Japan, 99.99% of the time it is Unlicensed.  Places like Taiwan, Brazil and China tend to have pirates.

2) Pirates are usually hacks of games to remove copyright stuff or change characters in a previously licensed game.   Unlicensed games are generally original games which were just released without Nintendo's/SEGA's licensing.

So.... Had only one working game that uses your Pirate pic - "Sonic The Hedgehog"

There were about 6 or 7 more pirates that didn't work, including "Tekken II" and "Picachu"

Had only one game that uses your Unlicensed pic - "Gamars Puzzle"

Had about 30-50 use your Prototype box

Had 2 use your Homebrew box.

And.... we don't need the "No Boxart Available" since you already created your own boxarts for the 3 licnesed games that I couldn't find boxart for.

nah... no need to do another one.  Those are just fine.  We may need a "No Boxart Available" one, but I haven't gotten there yet and would hate to make you do the work before I did.

I think it would be nice to have a "SegaNet" one like the Satalleview for the SNES though.

SegaNet Wiki

Not sure if there are pics of it since it was an online service.  There are a handfull of Genesis games which were taken off of SegaNet that could use a special box.

Maybe this one...?

EDIT:  Wow... so yeah... I had a few hours to burn so I did a little bit of work on integrating your generic artwork and Stupot1's new vids and adding artwork and stuff and I noticed I have about 300 roms to go through for testing still.  Many of them are text heavy junk and clones, but still... wow.. I didn't think I had that much to do on Genesis still.  There are at least 40 more entries I've got to make for the synopsis when I get the time.  Guess I wasn't as far along on that one as I thought.

I know the NES and SNES are much further along though.

Sure hope I can get some help on the Gameboy come wintertime though.  That one has about as many games as the NES, SNES and Genesis combined.

Yeah man... Gilles does great work.  Without him, we'd be Dynamic Skinless and have plenty of crappy blank eyesores while scrolling through the boxes.  I came up with that shit but would have been pounding sand with the idea without the artistic genius of Gilles and his Girl.

Anyways... good idea on the FDS stuff.  I hadn't even thought of that yet.  I'll take a look at what's needed still.  There actually aren't too many games and I think we have boxart for a majority of them.  (I think I mentioned in another thread that we've added a lot more artwork/videos since the last NES release)

Maybe we'll need some of those generic boxarts other than the Pig one which I know we do need.

Here's the pic Gilles.. I think it's perfect for those FDS Pr0n games, even the ones The Pig didn't make.

Can't wait to see your new stuff Gilles.  I know I've been slow releasing anything that you've made these for, but Stupot1 and I and a few others here and there are still adding new games and I want to make the next one the Final FINAL release.

Hey Giles, RX we probably don't need an unlicensed generic box or prototype because all the FDS unlicensed/prototype games are prOn from what I see and we can use Super Pig to replace all of those.  All we need is a "No Boxart Available", and "Rom Hack".

Hey guys one last thing to add to this generic boxart project for the FDS section.  The Famimaga Series Volumes 2-5(Volume 1 has a boxart for it):

Panic Space- Famimaga Vol. 2
All 1 - Famimaga Vol. 3
Clocks or Clox - Famimaga Vol. 4
Puyo Puyo - Famimaga Vol. 5

These games do not have boxart at all, but I've done some research and I found this
<http://www.gamesetwa.../famimaga1.jpg> That little character is on every title screen of the games and we could use him and incorporate it onto an FDS box cover(Like what I hope Giles does with Super Pig and the prOn games).  Again, give me some feedback on this here and that should DEF take care of the boxart for the FDS section. Im out

Those pics are interesting (especially the pig)
will post the result tomorrow
Now i can (finally in hollidays) work with my girl on a pro video intro for our émus; like on our xbox games tongue.gif  (you will be able to skip it by pressing a button, don't worry  laugh.gif )
Yeah i know, lot of guys don't care about the GUI, they prefer the progress on the emulator itself, and they are right!
But we can have them both (gui updates and emu updates, look at the future atarixlbox) ! so... let's go!

Awesome man,

Hopefully you can get that SegaNet one done first since I'm in a Genesis mode now and I've got nearly all the Artwork/Synopsis sorted out for all the Unlicensed/Hacks/Protos/Pirates now.  Just got to go back and do the Japan and some Europe ones now.  I believe Stupot1 wanted to add some games we've missed too, but I'm not sure how many of the new ones I've done are already in his to-do list.

These systems really look great with this generic boxart man.  Really glad your around to make them a reality.

Later,

EDIT:  Here's that other FDS boxart that dnyce was talking about:

Any chance you could get that SegaNet boxart to complete the Genesis stuff.  I do believe it's the last piece of that puzzle as well.

Oh.... maybe a Prototype with the 32x too.  We've got two new games... X-Men and Virtua Hampster.  Unfortunately they don't work on the emu at this time, but it'd be nice to have them still.... Just in case...

As soon as we have a way to display CD synopsis in the emu now we'll have all artwork and synopsis for all Sega Games in the Xtras.  Tons of good stuff coming.

Prolly a good idea Gilles.  Just like how we have a Rom Hack pic that we're not using for the FDS too (there are two hacks, but as usual I chose to use the original boxart for all of my romhacks).

Other people may decide they'd rather have the RomHack image for all their hack boxarts though.  Who knows... maybe someday I'd like to switch it up too and they'd be nice to have.

Thanks for all your great work.  I still have that PM about your girl's site and I'm still meaning to check it out.  You two are artistic geniuses.

Oh no......

We need a "No Boxart Available" for the SNES.

Stupot just gave me a vid for Columns, released in Japan.  I can't find anywhere that says it was unreleased or unlicensed, but I can't find a boxart for it anywhere.

Would you mind making that image too Gilles?

Hey Gilles,

I was wondering if you could maybe take a look at Gameboy and get started on the usual categories for Gameboy/Gameboy Color/Gameboy Advance.

That's the next system I'm going to tackle with the Synopsis/Artwork combo.  Got most of the Gameboy & Gameboy Color videos done now too.  Just need to get a ton of Gameboy Advance movies now.

Thanks man,
~Rx

Oh yea.... and a 32x Rom Hack pic would be nice too man.

Thanks again

Hey Gilles,

Wondering if you were available to be on-deck for any TurboGrafx generic boxart the next few days?

I'm going through that set with a fine tooth comb right now and editing the synopsis.  I'm also going to be adding all the included CD games to the synopsis as well.  As I go through, I'll figure out what type of images we need for this system.

Oh yeah... did you have time to think about the 32x Rom Hack pic?

And thank your girl for the main thread banners  cool.gif

Believe it or not, we don't need any generic boxart for the TG16/TGCD.

I've just gone through every CD and Card in the set and not a single one doesn't have a box.

It helps that there are only like 2 prototypes and 2 unlicensed games and they both have boxart.

Less than 400 entries overall to make a pretty small set.

I'd still appreciate that 32x Rom Hack box for Stupot1 though when you get a chance Gilles.

Thanks,
~Rx

Yeah.... I got Splatterhouse Chrome, but thanks for bringing that to our attention anyhow.

I actually don't use the Rom Hack image in my sets since I use the original games' boxart.  It's the same reason why I don't need a 32x Rom Hack image either, but Stupot1 wants one.

Maybe you could make a Rom Hack generic for TG16 too Gilles?  Somebody might rather use that image for Splatterhouse Chrome.

In example: for nes: mario and FF hacks you use the original boxarts...?
I was hoping you would do that. smile.gif

Title: Generic Boxart/cartart Project
Post by: ressurectionx on October 16, 2009, 05:34:00 PM
Yes... All Mario, Final Fantasy, Metroid, and Castlevania hacks use the original game's boxart (as well as any other hacked game for any other system).

I think there's only one time I actually used a Rom Hack generic boxart, and that was for a prototype or something that got hacked and it didn't have an original boxart.

I think this gets a little confusing for somebody who just dumps all of the roms into one folder, but this is why I provide datfiles broken down by type so people can break them up properly.  There are actually so many hacks for NES and SNES that I've broken them down by game if there were more than 4 hacks for a specific title.  (Think Metroids, Marios, Zeldas, Final Fantasy's, Castlevania's).  It looks really sharp when you have HQ boxart for all of them as you scroll through the hacks.

EDIT:  Just going through a few more NES hacks now and I came up with an example of when I'd use a Rom Hack image.  We had a few hacks for Earthbound Zero, which everyone knows is a prototype/unreleased game.  Since there was no boxart originally and we used the "Prototype" boxart for that game before, I used the Rom Hack boxart for the 2 or 3 hacks we have for it now.

Hey Gilles,

I wanted to quick wrap up some lose ends on a few small emulators.

I was wondering if you could make up some generic boxarts for 7800 and Lynx too.

So far the only one I think we need for 7800 is the Home Brew one.  (I can't find a box/cart for Tubes anywhere... although I don't think it was ever finished on the 7800 and instead the project was taken to the Genesis from there).

I'll let you know if we need anything else.

Thanks,
~Rx

EDIT:  We'll also need a Rom Hack for "Star Wars 7800", which is a cool romhack of Xevious.

Thanks bud

EDIT 2:

Need some lynx ones too.

So... we need the following:

Lynx: Prototypes, Unlicensed, Homebrew
7800: Homebrew, Rom Hack, Prototoype
32x: Rom Hack

Thanks man,

Haha... beautiful!

I was just updating my thread with what LYNX stuff we need too, apparently right as you were posting that.

So we still need:

Lynx: Prototypes, Unlicensed, Homebrew
32x: Rom Hack

I'm really looking forward to getting this stuff integrated in the packs and wrapping up these two smaller Atari sets as well.  That will be about 6 or 7 emulators now with full sets.

Thanks again,

We have boxarts for both the X-Men and Virtua Hamster.  It's up to you if you want to make one in case another prototype comes out in the future without a box.  We don't "need" one now though.

Thanks for the 32x Rom Hack.  I prefer using the original boxart for hacks, but Stupot1 will be thrilled.

Lynx: Prototypes, Unlicensed, Homebrew
Master System: Boxart Not Available, Unlicensed, Prototypes
Game Gear: Boxart Not Available, Prototypes

Awesome....

What's the N.H. Immigration one though.  The image looks great and funny, but I'd rather not make any political statements if that means something I'm unaware of.  (I'm one of the most politically minded people you probably know, but I just don't feel it has a place here, which is why I don't have the Obama image in any of the skins and would have removed a Bush or Regan or Lincon or Washington image as well.)

Yep.... that's all we need for LYNX

If you ever wanted to fill in the blanks on systems and make other images that I don't mention I think it's cool man.  I'm just telling you which ones we need for the Xtras while we need them so you aren't wasting time on images on images that won't end up in my packs.

Thanks,

Cool man... Glad you understand.  I hope you can find a good cartoonish version or something differnt for it.  I think it's real cool that you integrate some different images on occasion for the different categories.

I just don't want to include any policial or religious themes in the skins.  It's not that I don't view Politics or Religion as unworthy of discussion, just that I don't think that our emus are the place.  (Of course I even encourage somebody to make a political or religiously themed skin, but it won't be included in the final production).

Think about Sinead O'Connor.... if you had an image of the Pope in one of your banners, She's want to rip the XBox in half on Saturday Night Live.   cool.gif

cop girl number 1?

Duh... I think I'll use both.. duh...   cool.gif

Great work man.

Funny you don't know Sinead O'Connor.  She did that song "Nothing Compares 2 You" back in the late 80's or early 90's.  Nice looking Irish girl with a shaved head.  She was a massive success here in the states until she ripped a picture of the Pope in half on Saturday Night Live at that time.  She's been in relative exile from humanity since then.   I think I read about how she took out an ad in one of the big Irish newspapers pleading with people from her home country to leave her alone.   I think she wanted to make a point about molestation in the church, but she became a leopar instead.

Better to keep that stuff out of here.  We got enough confrontation in here sometimes without even getting into world news.

Hey Gilles,

Okay.... I'm working on a few smaller emus and so far I know we're going to need a "No Boxart Available" for the Watara Supervision.  I'm sure we'll need some others, but that's the only one I know for sure now.

That leaves us with the following needed at this point:

Master System: Boxart Not Available, Unlicensed, Prototypes
Game Gear: Boxart Not Available, Prototypes
Watara Supervision: No Boxart Available

There really isn't much to categories for Supervision, so that one image should cover any games I can't find boxes for.

Just because we're on a new page here, I figured I'd bring us up to date on what is still needed:

Game Gear: Boxart Not Available, Prototypes
Watara Supervision: No Boxart Available
2600: No Boxart Available, Harem (Pr0n) artwork using http://img511.images...oomswitches.jpg

Hey Gilles,

....and next system's unlicensed gets that other cute cop to herself.   cool.gif

The payoff for this is going to be big Gilles.  Release time for all of this is approacing.  Just need you guys to hang in there and get some good work out in the next few months.   This all looks so good now it'll blow your mind.

My goal now is to have about 12 systems ready for mutual release, at least Xtras wise, in February or March.

I truly appreciate how you and Madmab come out with skin and emu update one at a time on your own time for the community.  And I've got to tell you that these Generic Boxarts are the missing link to a perfect set of roms.

Like I said before, I'm just the idea guy, and you guys and gals all make it happen.  I wouldn't be able to do any of this stuff on my own.  (I actually originally made my artwork have bars on the horizontal or the vertical to fit static skins that I believed were the epitome of skins on the XBox at the time.......)

Just wanna take this time to thank you and Madmab for everything you've done and everything you continue to do.  Words couldn't explain the stuff I have close to release now and I can't wait to share them with you guys.

Just gotta give people time to sort out the high quality artwork and videos and add new things.  I've got plenty to keep me occupied with the smaller systems in the mean time.

And that f*ing Gameboy

Thanks everyone,

I hate to be picky, but I was wondering if you wouldn't mind re-doing the Game Gear ones to have the border from this box:

(EDIT:  Not this particular box, since it's low quality, but a better quality shot)

I just think the other ones look too much like Master System (I thought they were Master System at first).  I think only a few Game Gear games used the boxes that you used and the Purple Game Gear border looks better.

I'm a member there and that's actually where I got most of the original boxart sets I worked with.   Now we've added tons of top-quality HD artwork from sources like thecoverproject, HyperSpin and boxart that we have touched up individually.

Watara Supervision: No Boxart Available

Maybe we could just find a decent shot of the Supervision logo and you and your girl could come up with a good "Boxart Not Available" image.

Here's an update of what we still need Gilles:

Game Boy: No Boxart Available, Prototypes, Unlicensed
Game Boy Color: No Boxart Available, Unlicensed, Prototypes, Pirate, Homebrew
Game Boy Advance: Unlicensed, Prototypes, Pirate, Homebrew, Special Releases (See Below)
Game Gear (Alternate Box, See Above): Prototype, No Boxart Available
Watara Supervision: No Boxart Available

The "Special Releases" for the Game Boy Advance are for roms that were playable on the Game Boy Advance if you had the Game Cube and a special game that had mini-games that were playable on a connected Game Boy Advance.

I'm thinking it would be cool to have a Game Cube on the boxart.  We could just call it "Special Releases" unless somebody knows what these roms were Officially called.  I can't find a name for the process of playing these mini-games on your GBA connected to the Cube.

Cool man... wasn't trying to rush you or anything.  Just added the GBC and the GBA since those synopsis/artwork collections are done and we're nearly done for the videos too.

I'm still trying to find a better Game Boy (regular) boxart pack so I don't have to try to find the best images online one by one and do a ton of touch-ups like I'm doing with the Genesis now.  I'll probably have to do that though since I'm coming up empty in my search.

After I get that done I'm going to re-visit some of the smaller systems and get them up to speed with where the rest of the Xtras are at, and then I'm going to get crackin' on the Wonderswan and the X68000.

Have to update the list because we'll need a boxart done for Virtual Boy now too:

Colecovision: No Boxart Available, Prototypes, Homebrew
Colecovision ADAM: No Boxart Available
Game Boy: No Boxart Available, Prototypes, Unlicensed
Game Boy Color: No Boxart Available, Unlicensed, Prototypes, Pirate, Homebrew
Game Boy Advance: Unlicensed, Prototypes, Pirate, Homebrew, Special Releases (See Above)
Game Gear (Alternate Box, See Above): Prototype, No Boxart Available
Virtual Boy: Homebrew
Watara Supervision: No Boxart Available

EDIT: I added the colecovision and ADAM entries above after making the post originally.

EDIT2: Hey Gilles.... What do you think about making a boxart of your own with the Pokemon Mini on it that will be the boxart for all 8 games?  It's completely your own creation man.  Whatever you want it to look like will be perfect.

I was thinking we could do the same thing with Chip8, since there obviously isn't any boxarts for Chip8 games.

I might not be as active as usual through the end of the year, but I'm going to get right back on this work when the holiday season has died down.

These look great man.  I just added them all to the set.  You're going to be blown away by how these really round out the artwork packs when they're uploaded.

Here's the updated list of what's currently needed:

Colecovision: Prototypes, Homebrew
Game Boy Color: No Boxart Available, Unlicensed, Prototypes, Pirate, Homebrew
Game Gear (Alternate Box, See Above): Prototype, No Boxart Available
Virtual Boy: Homebrew

Thanks,
~Rx

Don't sweat the Supervision boxart Gilles.  I did it on my own because I just wanted to get another system knocked down.  (Actually, we will still need a skin for this bad boy).

What do you think?

EDIT:

Colecovision Adam done too....

Cool...

Well here's what's left:

Possibly some boxart for the Atari 5200/800, Intellivision, Amiga and the X68000.  That's it!!!!

If you don't have any problems with my shoddy work above, I will try to do the Game Gear and the Game Boy Color myself since it's just a matter of finding a good border for the left hand side with the console name on it and slapping over one of the images that you've already made for the other systems.  If I'm not happy with them I'll let you know.  VB may not be possible with my limited skills, so I'll let you know.

We've also got a few more skins that need to be made for the non-computer emus.  Supervision is one of them.  I think Pokemon Mini (which is the last Nintendo skin to do) is another.  I was hoping when you get the time you could wrap some of that stuff up.  We're getting so close.  I'm actually thinking about jumping on the Arcade stuff early since I'm in "Wait Mode" now on a majority of the handheld/console emulators that I plan on doing.

Looking forward to your videos too.

Later,
~Rx

Hey Gilles,

Just figured I'd mention to you that I completed the boxart that was needed for all of the systems I've completed testing on so far.  I may have a couple more to do down the road, but I'm pretty confident that I can just do them on my own with the images you've made.

I'll let you know if I need any help with anything.

Thanks again for all your hard work on this.  Thank your girl for me too.

We're getting close now bud.  cool.gif

you should post a new thread over in Emulators about ALL the stuff you have left, and what areas people can help.... it seems like the Xtras are scattered all over the Forums... we need 1 spot! :-P

I mean, I have no life and look at all the sections of the Xbox forums but others may have a life and then we're screwed lol

You can look at the "Current Progress" on my thread.

I will be updating that shortly.  I just have a few more things I want to get done before I do.

Haven't checked them out yet, but I should be doing it sometime this week.  I'll let you know.

I've done a ton of updates since I posted in the current progress thread.  I'll have to get the new stuff up there in the next few days.  I've just been wrapping up some loose ends.
