Beautiful work man.  I'll have to try them when I get a chance.  I'm not able to do much in the next 10 days or so.  Got a wedding and some other stuff happening.

What do you think about making a dual preview skin for the Colecovision?  madmab seems to think it wouldn't be to difficult, but is afraid that people won't make the dual previews if he puts it in the emulator (especially for the older, less popular systems like Coleco, Intellivision and some of the Ataris)

I think if we got a dual Colecovision skin out there we may see dual previews in XPORT emulation soon.  I already have the videos and artwork ready (I think there is two or three vids that could still be made).

Later,
~Rx

Yo Madmab (and the adamx users eventually), could a skin like this be ok for you?
don't hesitate to leave comments, i can modify it
(yeah i know all my skins are at the same style; but that is what i want, question of esthetic taste eh!)

Actually for a "generic skin (aka same style skin)" I kinda like it.  Most generic skins I usually do not like.  I especially like the size reserved for ROM names (yes I know it's a fetish (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) ).  Anyways the only two things I can think of is the buttons at the bottom would probably look better if they were centered beneath the rom list.  I think the box screen ratio may be off.  Colecovision boxes are about the same size of a typical Atari 2600 game.  I'd have to look real quick.

Here is an example..

(IMG:http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/2793/beamriderujg3.th.jpg)

Really nice though.  Good selection of colecovision console images..

Not sure about the screen shot size you picked but a colecovision screen is 256/192 which has a ratio of 4/3.
Anyways great job.  What did you say your favorite emu was?

A possible suggestion (and it may satisfy those who don't like the rom list taking up so much space is to maybe shrink the vertical size of the list and place the picture above it?  Maybe?

Nice work, man...
Andd about what MadMab said - I agree.

In my skins - in the beginning - I was used to make the ROM list tall and short,
so most of the games never displayed their names entirely, forcing a horizontal scroll
in the box.

Then, after setting up screenshots for all emulators, for every single ROM archived
in my Dark-Pest, I figured out a new way of seeing the things.
Now I have a 100% wider and not tall ROM list where the names fit perfectly,
and in addition, I got a hell of a space to place the screenshots.

Maybe you can create a version using this different placement too...
Some people will like it, I bet.

Cospefogo.

I like 3 the best personally.  Wondering if there is a way to make the video preview larger though.

Perhaps something like this....

Buttons  <----->  Video
Buttons  <----->  Video
Screenshot <-->  Video
Screenshot <-->  Video
Screenshot <-->  Video
RomnameRomnameRom

What do you think gilles?

~Rx

P.S.  Would still love to see some sort of full-screen previews for the favorites list with a cool Romname platter centered at the bottom or something.  I don't know if this is something you can program in a skin or if it has to be handled in the emu itself though.  I'm dumb like that....

Ah ok rez~x !I understand now,
you would like this sort of skin in fact?
example 5)
(IMG:http://img37.picoodle.com/data/img37/3/9/8/f_preview5m_17c608f.jpg)
good news for you my friend: yes it is possible to make this sort of skin for all the emus!
just go into gameselect skin configuration and set the numbers of lines to 1 and adjust the y and x axis of the romname text
but eh! i think lot of guys like to see what are the games in their collection via the rombrowser
but don't bother, if its requested, i ll make gamesect screen like this for all emus, now i have the photoshop psd files, the pm3 emus skins are easy to do! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Number 5 is perfect for me!

Beauty man,
~Rx

EDIT:  Actually, come to think of it, could the buttons be placed below the screenshot (making the video a little bit bigger and artwork a bit smaller)

I think there may be a problem for me because I use the boxart, title, action and cart scans, so they probably won't show up well on a stretched out picture (thus making my Xtras packs not look very good when the game shots are preveiwed).  I never had a problem when the boxart was stretched wide a little, but the in-game shots would be severly distorted with that preview.

It's okay to have a few romnames at the bottom too.  I don't know how I'd like it if the ONLY name that showed up was the current romname.  Just a short list that showed the complete title at the bottom would do great.

Thanks again,
~Rx

I'm kinda partial to Example 1 myself.  Is there anyway to shrink the buttons/descriptions down and place them below the ROM list?  Cospefogo has an idea of what I was referring to earlier with the boxart and snap/preview being placed on the top half and a game list on the bottom.

Oh and on the main pic could the colecovision picture be pushed to the right just a teeny bit?  Just so the edge of the colecovision is near the edge of the screen.

I'm a little confused about what RessurectionX is going for?  Are you referring to a seperate skin for the game favorites select with larger boxart and screen/preview pictures and a smaller ROM list (say 4 or something)?  When ROM browsing I like to be able to see where I'm going.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Also we need to determine how the boxart snaps are gonna be handled.  Is there gonna be one Boxart pic per ROM?  Or more?  For example I can see some people, say, having front/back box art, and cartridge art.  Where are we gonna put them?  Seperate directories?  etc.

I'm thinking maybe having 2 or 3 skins for the user to select from may be an option considering how Giles is going about this it oughta be pretty easy.

I am voting twice and I love skins 1 and 3. I do like 5, but I hate the only one rom name displayed at a time deal

Here's what I was thinking for (just) the favorites view....

(IMG:http://img397.imageshack.us/img397/3039/supercontramt8.png)

Maybe I should be making skins  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Just kidding.  I don't have the patience for that with the other work being done now.

But anyways... only have one name at a time show in the emulator for the favorites like this, but the main selection screen could be half the screen devoted to names like it seems a lot of people prefer.  Even cooler if somebody vastly improves on my rough idea and, say, makes an animated plaque for the romname that floats towards the bottom and fire surrounds it or something.

As long as the screenshot previews work with the Xtras, whatever anyone else likes is good if we can do this.   I'd hate to have a great skin working against the artwork previews.  This should really be decided scientifically. I should send some artwork samples to you and anyone else making videos to fit them the best.  I use multiple previews boxart/title/action/cart myself so a very tall image will make the video shots look rediculous.  I think something in the middle that distorts both the least would be the best option.

It's cool if we have small previews though if we can make a favorites window that's full screen like that.

What do ya'all think?

~Rx

P.S.  I think that's actually Contra, and not Super C.... my bad..... about 6 beers into it.  Gotta go to bed soon  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Well the new build has three seperate screen size/position settings for the movie preview, screenshots, and boxart/cartart.  So yes.  All you would have to do is turn movies off (or just dont put movies on your machine) and position the screenshot in one window and the boxart/cart in the other window.

I dont have the new build so that does not help me right now.But that is good to know because I will not be able to spare the room for the videos on the bigger systems I may be able to on some of the smaller systems but on systems like snes I am not even tempted to do it.They are just to big and on some systems there is to many.I would have to dump games for videos and that will never happen.I am hoping that it will all be streamable one day but until that day systems like snes I will not give a second thought about it..I like the stuff I think it is cool but not cool enough for me to compremise my setup to have it.I am looking forward to the vids for lynx and coleco and systems of that nature but gba and neogenesis and nintendo and systems that are packing around 1000 roms or more they are off my radar for now or atleast until the 2tb hdds hit the market that hdd might be big enough for me to store all my emulators and xbox games I have.The way I see it I have no choice but to stream considering I have over 1400 gigs worth of xbox games alone not counting emulation and I figure it will take another 500 gigs to complete the xbox collection and they can not be streamed without a devkit which I dont own.

The messed up thing is I ordered a 1.5tb hdd and even if I get it to work in an xbox which I wont know is possible or not until I receive it. I still will not have the room to spare on that xbox for the roms.I will still have to stream them and I still will not have the extra room for the vids of the bigger systems.

That is why you will be happy with the new dynamic skin run088 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
each user is different,

lot of users like the videos dual with title screen,
other users want only boxarts since they don't have space for videos
other wants dual videos with boxarts
others want big videos and big boxarts
others want only screenshots
etc...
etc...
etc...

You only want screenshots? eh, no problem, simply disable the video window sprite
you want only screenshots but sometimes a video for few games?all in the same window?ok, set the video size/position in the preview window

i really think we have find a great solution with madmab, rezx and you about this dynamic skin, it will solve a lot of problems, and the sprites render well better in hd.It would have been a PAIN for the skinner to release 20 differents versions with subtles differences of the same skin!what a confusion! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/muhaha.gif) a lot of space saved for nothing (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

p.s.: 1) is there a way to desactivate the flashings words in the main menu "adamx main menu beta dual preview 3b7"?impossible to set well this text; the main menu is looking crap
perheaps add an option in the texts settings "desactivate the flashing texts"?

ok.  I figured out how to disable this and added an option to "disable rainbow effect".  But that creates one other problem.  What color to use for the 1st (title) line.  There are two options.

1.  Use a set color.  It currently defaults to RGB value of 0xFF808080 which does not look very good.  I changed that to 0xffd860b0 for now.

2.  Allow the user to select the color.  If the color = 0 it rotates the color.  If not it uses the user selected color.

Here is the link for my 480 settings.  Really the only issue that seems to pop-up (from my messing with your beta's) is the font size always seems off.  So I adjusted those as needed.  I also moved the preview windows just a teeny bit on two of them.  Mostly because my TV's overscan area was eating into them.

http://rapidshare.de/files/40572831/dynami...ttings.rar.html

I also fixed a bug in the "select skin configuration used" that would lock the emu.   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)  Rookie mistake.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Well I tried that last publically released version of AdamX on my SAMBA set-up and didn't run into any issues.  So I'm not really sure what is going on.

The name I used is

smb://NameOfHostComputer/C/Install/Adam/adamgames/

So I'm not sure if that makes any difference.  I did not try it with an actual hard coded IP address.

When I get home I will test again.I had alot of stuff traveling threw my lines when the problem happened.I tried on 2 xboxes and the problem occurred on both.The next day I went back and tested it with relax to see if it happened when launching from there and I played coleco for a few hours and it never happened.What the issue could have been was I was downloading threw 2 locations streaming a movie from another updating the xbmc library on another and playing coleco from the last location.This has never caused an issue before with relax but it might be a little taxing for samba.I was just going to convert my roms from relax to samba so I didnt have to launch relax everytime I rebooted my computer.I will play around somemore with it and let you know if I come up with something that might help.I been playing adam alot lately so I could give you some feedback on the system the way it sits figured another set of eyes could possiblity see something that might have been missed.Only thing I have noticed so far is on some games the contrrols dont move to smooth.It is not so bad the games can not be played but it does hinder the gameplay a tad.
