Awesome Xport (as always)!
-
thanks again for another wonderful update!!! I still hope that down the road you port over the MESS version of the vectrex emulator
-
XPort spoils us again.
Thanks, X. (Especially for the GUI enhancements.)
-
It looks like it's going to be a full night of DosXbox, Beer, Pop Tarts, Champagne and Fireworks for me!
Thank you so much for allowing to change the mouse setting in game.
You sir are one man army!
Now if you'll all excuse me, I'm off to defile my body!
-
Thanks for the update.
If I press X to bring up the config menu to reconfigure a game my xbox locks up, I then deleted all files in E:\SAVES\DOSXBOX because I thought that old configs might be incompatible but to no avail.
Does anybody else have this problem?
-
I weally weally wuv you XPort!
cheers for the update! always appreciated

I cannot reproduce. What is the exact/complete path (including drive letter) of the file you are trying to launch/configure?

Sorry, after I did MAMEoX-VMM I have washed my hands of it. It's extremely unlikely that I'll do more MAME work.

Don't know what to tell you. Perhaps try deleting the entire waxworks directory and reinstall it.
-
Yeah I'll try and delete everything dosxbox related stuff and reinstall.
Hopefully that'll do the trick.
-
seems to be great ! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
-
Thanks X-Port!!!
This is the first time I have installed Dosxbox. It doesn't dissapoint
(you never do!)
A thousand thanks for all of your hard work in bringing emulation to the Xbox.

It turned out to be the stub files dosxbox creates that caused the problem.
I deleted all *.dos files created and reconfigured the whole lot and everything works like a charm now. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Sure enough, just after you release a new version of Dosbox, they update their core.
The latest core source code is .66-rc1
Mounting zip files still might be a decent feature to add, and patches do exist for that.
-
ok. Sorry I didn't jump on this sooner but I had a handful of titles under the "old" naming conventions that I had to manually change to the new standard. Overall it was a relatively easy process. Just something I was too busy to really sit down right away.
Things I noticed
The config -> general setting -> page 2 seems to be missing.
For some reason I couldn't find the skin editor either.
The screenshots are stored in (for example) e:\screenshots\dos\dosfiles\ultima 5.dos\gamedata\ when I think they should actually be e:\screenshots\dos\dosfiles\ultima 5.dos\
That's about it for now.
Thanks..

i was just about to say all that
the option to go to page 2 is not there, i don't know how everyone missed that
and the screenshot thing is really annoying, not only the 6 folders that its in, but none of my old screenshots show anymore
so does this mean i have to retake them or rename them all?
-
Well for now I just moved mine, but it was only 30 or so games. Assuming that he fixes it, I'd say just leave them for now.
I never got into setting up alot of stuff because of the odd naming convention that I was hoping would eventually get fixed. Now that it is easier I'll probably start doing some more.
-
OK, I followed the simple directions and I got to the director where it lists all my dos games and all under D:/
then I click on a game, it tells me to type in name...I leave it as it was and then it goes to black DOS box with a little blue one above explaining the commands/directions. The game does not start up....what am I supposed to type in for it to start? Thanks, its a noob question
-
There is nothing functionally wrong with the screenshots unless someone has evidence to the contrary. The fact that the older screenshots are not carried over is unfortunate, but it was necessary to change it so that things worked correctly in all cases. Ditto for the configuration files.
There is a bug with the second page of options (and the option to edit skins) not being accessible anymore - this will be fixed.
Anyone having "noob" issues with DOSXBox needs to first familiarize themselves with DOS in general, then they should concentrate on using DOSBox for Windows. Once you're comfortable with both, then you will be better equipped to handle DOSXBox.
-
ok that's fine. Was just hoping for some kind of consistency among x-port emu's in the screenshots arena. I've already converted the 20 or so that I have to the new name format.
So I'll just continue with the new ones under the new subdirectory format. The format of the configuration files is perfect and although a hassle to convert I think we are better off in the long run. It makes it a heck of alot easier to "share" configurations. Something that is doubly important considering how difficult DOS games can be in setting up compared to console games.
I'm just glad I finally got Ultima Underworlds going. I couldn't get it working under earlier versions for some reason, although this time around I think I realized the stupid rookie mistake I made in setting it up. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
Jbmtk - running older DOS only games requires a certain understanding of DOS and installing these games. Luckily Dosxbox does remove a few hassles like setting up a config.sys file to allocate the proper amount of memory (EMS/XMS/etc) and loading drivers in high memory. Oh what a headache.
But how you get a game up and running depends on what form you have it in. If you downloaded it from somewhere there is a chance it can be run right off. But alot of PC games need to be "installed" first and there are too many variations of this installation process to be able to just sum it up in a few paragraphs.
Dosbox itself does have some msg boards that may be more helpful to you Jbmtk. I'll dig up the link later on and post it here. If I remember they even have a few tutorials to get people on the right track.
Deathx88 - believe it or not it may be possible to write a "dosxbox" script that will run thru the screenshots directories and move everything to where it should be. Problem is, chances are most peoples screenshots are in that old wacky hex name format. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

What would REALLY be nice is if Xport could get the dynamic compiler working. That would really give Dosxbox a boost. But apparently it doesn't seem too like to behave on the xbox that much.

I've got two big issues setiing up the controls:
1 - I want to play 2 players games. I can assign keystrokes to buttons of the controller plugged in port 1, but not from a controller plugged in port 2. In port 1, both sticks, directional pad and all buttons are recognised, but none of those are recognised in port 2. I've only got 2 controllers plugged in, in ports 1 and 2, and both controllers are official Microsoft pads that work in all other games.
2 - After configuring controls during a game and returning back to the main menu, it asks you "Do you want to apply those as defaults for ALL games". No matter whether I choose Yes or No, whichever settings I have currently defined become the default for all games. This means that everytime I run a game in DosXbox, I have to reconfigure all my controls for this particular game again.
I could download the configuration from the website, but I wanted to try Micro Machines, which is not in the list, and I don't want to upload my config since I couldn't get input from the 2nd controller working.
-
Noone can help?
I really wanted to play Micro Machines with 2 players. Do I have to remove DosXbox and stick to the PC and keyboard?
-
Well sorry for the late reply and it may not be well thought out, but here goes.
You have to specifically pick the menu option for the second controller (with the 1st controller). Once you do that you press the buttons you want to assign on the 2nd controller. Basically... navigate menus with first controller, use 2nd controller when it asks which button to assign to that function.
All x-port emu's will always use the "default" configuration or that of the "last game you played", in that order, if the game you select has no configuration already defined. What I usually do is take a game that would have a typicall standard configuration and save it in the favorites menu. That way I can hop in there real quick, load it, and then continue defining newer games.
-

Hmz, that's exactly what I was doing. I tried again, with only 2 controllers plugged in ports 1 and 2, and still buttons are not recognised from pad 2 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Ah, right, I misunderstood how it works. I thought it would save the configuration for all games from the general GUI, and that it would save the settings for this game only if defined from within the in-game menu.

Hey guys .. I had a quick question ..
If I have a game installed on my HD that needs a disc to run it, will this version read the disc off the DVD drive when prompted to "Insert Disc to Play?" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif)
-
Try to use option "mount cdrom" in individual game setting (that pop up when first time you run the game) and set directory that contains disk files
-
I was thinking about installing DosXbox, but I was wondering how commands and text are entered.
Can you connect a keyboard and mouse to the XBOX somehow? Or is there some kind of virtual keyboard/ mouse as part of the GUI?
-
I think you can connect keyboard and mouse - but i don't have them.
There is virtual keyboard and mouse off-course (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (vkb works like for example in Xbmc and mouse is controlled by left thumb stick and buttons)

Just thought I'd point out that DynaRec would require more memory, thus leaving less for the emulator itself to make use of. This is probably why, seeing as the Xbox only has 64MB to work with.
DynaRec occurs during execution, and a translation cache is required. Thus, more RAM.

Is there a way to change the "[mixer] blocksize" to a lower value?
In the windows .65 version of dosbox.conf it uses 2048, but that creates a delay in the sound for some games, I tried 1024 and that solved the sound delay problem.
Your dosbox.ini doesn't have that option, it must be hardcoded.
It would be a nice option to set per game.
Thanks, Mike
