Important Notes
===============
If you like PCE, you're going to love this one. Out of the 100+ CDs I tried
and the dozens of HUCard images, it played them all perfectly with just a
handful of ones with minor issues.
------------------
Perfect CUE System
------------------
Thanks to the great people at http://necstasy.emunova.net/, you should no
longer have to worry if your CUE sheet has the right indices, gaps, layout, etc.
The PCE TOC database is a compilation of verified TOCs from just about every
single PCE CD game in existence. I have incorporated all of that data into
MednafenX-PCE. The only thing you need to be concerned with is making sure
your CUE sheet points to the correct ISO/MP3 files for each track. You
can still use CDDissect to rip your PCE games:
http://xport.xbox-scene.com/cddissect.php
As long as you have all the ISO/MP3 files and your CUE sheet points to them
correctly, you'll be all set.
Please note the following examples of CUE sheet "FILE" lines:
This is good:
FILE "dynastic_hero02.iso" BINARY
This is bad:
FILE "c:\pcecds\dynastic hero\dynastic_hero02.iso" BINARY
You should not have any paths in your FILE lines. It should simply be the
filename.
--------
CD Games
--------
To play a CD game, select the CUE sheet. You will then be prompted to select
the name of the game so that MednafenX-PCE can load the correct TOC information.
If you are looking for a specific name but cannot find it, then load up
pcetoc_names.txt in notepad or some other text viewer and search for the name of
the game. (Or some portion of the name.)
The game you are trying to play *does* have an entry in the list. You just have to
find it.
----------------
US Encoded Games
----------------
Almost all games will load without issue, but if you just get a black screen
then go to the game configuration menu for that game and toggle the "Force US"
option. That will probably fix the problem. If not, you most likely have a bad
dump.
Stella, Gnuboy, SMSPlus, FCEUltra, HUGO, NeoPop, DGen, Bochs, HUGO-CD,
FMSXBox, Bliss, WinSTon, Gens, Z26X, StepmaniaX, PCSXBox, XBoyAdvance,
DOSXBox, AtariXLBox, MirrorMagicX, KoboX, MaelstromX, MarblesX, Vice64X,

great work xport
just curious does this emulate the "super cd-rom" format?
it seems from your read me that it does but since there are cd-rom and super cd-rom formats i was wondering if it emulates both. Also can anyone tell me how well Dracula X:chi no rondo runs(if it has super cd-rom emulation) if anyone has the chance to try it?
again thanks Xport your awesome
-
This emu supports all known CD formats
It also has full sound support in all CD games

OK I figured it out. It wont load a game in 1080i. I changed the settings to 720p and it works fine.
And by the way Xport you are amazing. All three new emulators are great. One of my favorite new features you haver added is the screen sizing. Being able to lock in the aspect ratio is great for people with 16x9 televisions. No more quessing. thanks alot for everything.
-
Woohoo! I'm so glad my emulator request came through. I can't thank you enough. I played around with all three MednafenX emulators for a couple of hours, and everything looks great. I really appreciate all your hard work for the XBox emulation scene - playing 4-player Nekketsu games and Dungeon Explorer rocks. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Two small questions:
1. How do you use turbo on Mednafen-PCE? I looked in the config and tried everything and couldn't figure it out. Am I just missing something really stupid? Normally I don't use turbo in emulators anyway but since it was part of the standard controller for the TG16, it makes games like Bonk 1 hard to play without it.
2. Is there any way you could add a volume control to the background music, at least in MednafenX-NES? I like the background music but it's considerably louder than the volume in the emulator itself. It's no biggie if you can't - I can always turn it off, after all - but I figure it couldn't hurt to ask.
-
Wow this great stuff. Thanks for the goodies man!

Same way as in HuGoX. What I did was define two new A and B buttons as Emu Button 28 and Emu Button 29. Then set Emu 28 and Emu 29 to turbo. Then set them to XBox buttons Y and B. I also had to unmap the Option 1 and Option 2 buttons which were set to Xbox Y and B by default... I wasn't sure if the option buttons did anything in this emulator or not. If they do, I'll map them to something else later.
Anyway, it can be a bit confusing to figure out the configuration, but just poke around a bit in the controller configuration menus and you'll likely get it. If you need a more detailed explanation I can give it later, but I'm about to go to bed right now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
---------------
Xport,
This emulator update is fantastic. This PCE emulator is 10x better than HuGo. It plays my favorite PCE game from my childhood (Legendary Axe II) while HuGo did not... and difference in the CD game accuracy is astounding. No more tweaking CUEs just to get half the audio. Thanks!

Still, it's not quite the same as the original console. It's really not a big deal at all, but the actual first-party controllers had three turbo-fire settings that you could switch between with a little selector, so it seems odd not to have any buttons mapped to turbo by default. It'd be cool to have the option to do the selector thing easily in-game but I understand if XPort doesn't feel like doing it or doesn't feel it's necessary.
-
thanks now I can play River City Ransom with sound The skin is bad ass too!
-
Man, this is something fantastic. You lead us all on by saying WinUAEX is next, then turn around and pull these 3 out of nowhere...??!!!
You just have to love XBS news when you read a heading:
Xport has just released 3 !!! new emulators....
lol. Wicked, thanks heaps.
-
Wow, this triple-emulator release sure was one nice surprise. Thank you so much xport! Finally, I can play the CD games with all their sound intact. (Oh yeah, nice skin by the way!)

When I play Iso pce-cd games skip at certain parts, happen to anyone else? no GFX filters by the way.

1. A much easier and more customizable way to do this is to set the "Autofire" setting for the buttons on the Controller configuration. Start the game, open up the options menu, select Configure Controllers, Controller 1, Autofire Options, then select the autofire level you want. 0 means turned off, 1 is the fastest autofire, 2 is slightly slower, etc. Adjust until you're happy with it.
2. From most places in the emulator you can press the LTHUMB stick to bring up the Music Control Menu. From there you can move the RTHUMB stick left/right to adjust the background music volume. During gameplay, moving the RTHUMB button up/down will adjust the background/sfx volume. Moving the RTHUMB button left/right will adjust the CD music volume. If you leave the emulator theme music playing while playing the games, then RTHUMB left/right will also adjust that.

For number 1. the problem is that I need to have buttons I and II with autofire on, and with autofire off to be able to play stuff like Bonk correctly. I can use the main four buttons for this, but it's not quite like the original, where you could switch the autofire settings quickly while playing and still use the same two buttons. And it seems a little odd to have to reconfigure the default controller to play a few games properly, but again, no big deal.
For number 2, thank you, that worked. Didn't even know about that menu. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Is there a way to control the sound effects volume and the emulator volume in-game as well? Now that the background music is turned down, the menu sound effects are too loud, because they're at the same volume level. It's something I can live with if there's no setting, though. I looked around a bunch through the menus but couldn't find anything.
-
One more thing: I changed the background music volume in MednafenX-NES, but the volume doesn't seem to save, so when I quit and load it up again later, the music is right back to where it was before. Is there any way to save the setting permanently?
-
I've some problem with CD-ROM.
I cannot get any CD-ROM to run and not even go into system card menu.
My guess is I put systemcard on wrong place or wrong name
Anyone can help? (Both CD I tried run well on PC and my xbox has samsung drive that read every cd i tried)

You can try force U.S mode? or you can check to see if you have the correct rom dumps( use goodtools). Thats weird if they worked in Hugo for you? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif) Mine work fine even Jackie Chan is playable now.
The only issue I'm having is my ISO games. They run smooth for the most part but every 5 seconds or so during gameplay the game stutters (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif).

You may have bit-swapped roms. Check out this post on the Mednafen forums for more details.

I had the same problem. I posted about it last night. I was running in 1080i. It locked up when I tried to load a rom. I changed the resolution to 720p and it worked fine. don't know why it wont run in 1080i. Maybe someone with a hdtv can try and see if they get the same results.

Gate of thunder off the US 4 in 1 disc doesn't work. It hangs on a black screen when you start the game. I used CD dissect to make the iso/mp3 from a real disc.

Gate of Thunder works perfectly on my end. The whole game worked so perfectly, it did things I didnt know happened. I didnt know Bonk spoke in the beginning before and after you pick a game.
And speaking of cddissect, how come everytime I try to use it, I can't rip the audio? I just get errors. The iso rips correctly.

Umm, is it just me or is there no support for the other 4 buttons on the newer PCE pads?
Games like SFII that use all 6 buttons are practically unplayable without them.

within the "perfect cue sheet" database pick the 4 in 1 Super CD (U)
and to get mp3s with your iso get a mp3.dll

@Likklebaer
yes I thought about the six button support as well until I found out that SFII is the only game that uses that.

I noticed you can now use wav instead of MP3 for much better sound. Does anyone else CD games sound skip or sound staticy? I thought playing using no filters might have resolved this problem but alas it is present in a few games regardless. Mednafen website suggest adjusting the sound buffer size, using the command-line option "-soundbufsize x". Is this possible to adjust within the settings?

Are you running them off of the HD, off of a DVD, or off the network?

I don't know whether this is an emulation issue or it's just me doing something wrong but here goes.
I'm currently playing 'The Dynastic Hero' and no matter what I buttons I press I can't use the Ocarina to open the sealed doors in the first cave (I learned 3 different melodies).
Do I have to remap any specific button to be able to use it, I can't seem to get magic working either.

Jantei Monogatari III - Saver Angels (J)

XPort,
So far, these are the games that won't run for me:
Cosmic Fantasy II (U) - Locks up as soon as the main character first appears on screen after starting a new game.
Motteke Tamago (T-Eng) - Locks up to a black screen after starting a new game.
Motteke Tamago is a free non-commercial game that can be downloaded here:
http://nick.serveblog.net/translations/mt/
The same Cosmic Fantasy II works perfectly for me with Magic Engine. I used cddissect to rip all games, which works fantastic btw. So far, all of the other CD based games that I've ripped work well.
I can also confirm that Gates of Thunder on the "4 in 1 Super CD (U)" does indeed work.

CF2 - are your audio tracks in MP3, WAV, or OGG format? What video mode are you running? (1080, 720, 480). Upload your CF2 track#3 (it's an audio track - the largest one on the disc) somewhere and private message me with how to access it so I can recreate this issue. It works perfectly fine for me, so I'm guessing it's either because you're running out of memory, or the MP3 file is encoded in a strange method, or you're using WAV/OGG across a network (see below).
Motteke - Are the audio tracks in OGG or WAV format? Are you running them on your HD, DVD, or across a network? Currently, OGG and WAV cannot be read across a network or off of an ISO9600 disc. (i.e. the S:\ drive .) This also works fine for me.

Are there any other files inside that zip?
Yes, there is a "Instructions.html" inside. Deleting it inside the zip let me start the game (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
so, if there are other files inside the zip, the rom don´t work.
Can you pls fix this?

Sorry this must be a noob question since it is so trivial.
I can get the mednafenx_nes to work in general (great job, thank you!!!), but after ftp madnafen_pce to my emulators directory, it did not show up on my UnleashX emulator listings. I tried reboot several times and it did not help. Can someone please help???
Thanks!
Go to your file manager and rename "defaultpce.xbe" to "default.xbe"

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) Whats the point? All you need is the rom anyway.

Thanks foxfella, but it's already named default.xbe (when i ftp'ed the files over)
Anyways, just found out I can start it up using file manager and execute the file (default.xbe), so the only minor
issue is that unleashx for some reason did not add it to the list of emulators.
Thanks!

First of all GREAT release......
however, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I can't get any of the cd rom games to work. I have been converting all the wav files into mp3 and running sega cue maker for the cue file. But none of what I've done works.
Popful Mail. Cinema graphics glitch out and the voices ingame are all garbled.
Double Dragon 2. Cinema graphics are all glitched out with no sound and the main player in game is glitched out as well. Enemies and backrounds are fine.
Lords of Thunder won't even boot for me. Freezes at black screen.
It works if I don't convert to mp3.
Akumajo DraculaX won't boot up for me either.
Is there a specific mp3 encoder or cue maker I should be using?

Did you modify your cues to read MP3? Any MP3 should work fine.

Post the cue sheets you're using for the MP3 and non-MP3 versions of Lords of Thunder.

I don't know how you managed to do that, but your "Track02.iso" is on "TRACK 01" and the "Track01.mp3" is on "TRACK 02". They're backwards
I suspect the problems you're having with everything else is probably similar to this. Check your CUE sheets.
