XboxMediaCenter SVN rev8306 PROPER build of March 23rd 2007 compiled by T3CH

This is a complete snapshot of what was in SVN at the time the build was compiled, with just a few small additions:
+ Killarny & Nuka1195 & Pikes AppleMovieTrailers (AMT) SVN pre-0.97 [scripts: Apple Movie Trailers]
+ BritneysPAIRS's ~110 choosen Milkdrop presets [visualisations: MD - BPs Selection]
+ EnderW & Blittans XBMCScripts Installer 1.8 SCRIPT [scripts: XBMCScripts]
   + Rockstar's Snake 1.0 SCRIPT [scripts: Snake]
   + Asteron's Tetris 1.0 SCRIPT [scripts: Tetris]
   + Nuka1195's T3CH Downloader SCRIPT [scripts: T3CH Downloader]
   + Codecs for mplayer [/system/players/mplayer/codecs/:*]

Special Note From T3CH:
QUOTE

* UPDATE: Oops, I included an old XBE. This has been fixed in this proper
* Wow, SVN sure wasn't in great shape when I built last time. Team XBMC may have fixed the 'launch xbe issue' now, but if it doesn't work for you, they've added more logging to get to the bottom of this. This is also why I'm releasing this build earlier than usual.
* There's no new mplayer TEST version since my last build, but you can still report issues with old TEST here: http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23969 It's located in the TEST subfolder, simply replace the 2 files in XBMC/system/players/mplayer/ if you want to help Team XBMC test it.
* I've also tweaked the win32 run_me_first.bat so it runs and then unmounts the virtual drives when you exit.
* I'm also including the XBMC Win32 PC environment.exe that is meant for skinners & python developers, read more about the concept here. It was built using Microsoft DirectX Summer 2004 SDK.
* If you want to report bugs, please do it the PROPER way, see http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/wiki/index....oper_Bug_Report

INSTALL NOTES from T3CH readme/nfo:
QUOTE

* APPLICATION INSTALL
- Fresh Install: Transfer _whole_ XBMC folder to your APPS folder (or where you want it).
- Upgrade: Backup the XBMC\UserData folder. Transfer whole XBMC folder to Xbox.  Overwrite UserData folder with your backed up copy.

* DASHBOARD INSTALL (SOFTMODS)
ARE NOT COVERED IN THIS README, SEE http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=406656

* DASHBOARD INSTALL
- Option 1. Team XBMC's shortcut tool.
It's included in the _tools folder as <<SHORTCUT by TEAM XBMC.xbe>> + <<SHORTCUT by TEAM XBMC.cfg>>.
Instructions here: http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/wiki/index....=As_a_Dashboard (Option 1).
Rename the <<SHORTCUT by TEAM XBMC.xbe>>+.cfg & also EDIT the .cfg so it matches your config.
See APPLICATION INSTALL above.
- Option 2. Thanks to an app called 'Team UIX's Xbe Shortcut Maker v1.0' by JbOnE, it's now easy...
Transfer contents of XBMC folder (this is VERY important since the tool is hardcoded) TO "E:\APPS\XBMC\". Rename <<SHORTCUT by TEAM UIX.xbe>> to something your bios can boot  (see http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/wiki/index....=As_a_Dashboard or read your BIOS README) and transfer to location your mod solution boots. No need to fiddle with HOME tag anymore,  and future upgrades you need not to worry about this file (unless you move XBMC).

* WIN32 PC ENVIRONMENT INSTRUCTIONS (WIN32 FOLDER)
Good to know, this requires DirectX9 Runtimes to be installed. Also this doesn't work with all graphics cards.
You need to:
- Copy XBMC_PC.exe & 'run_me_first.bat' from win32 to XBMC folder
- Run 'run_me_first.bat'
- Run XBMC_PC.exe

* UPGRADE TIPS
If you're updating from a VERY old/bad build you may get issues. Follow these simple rules:
- Replace (FTP OVERWRITE) all files in your XBMC folder with fresh ones from your new build
- Delete old settings (from UserData/guisettings.xml)
- In some rare cases some of the database files in UserData/Database/*.db may need manual deletion (usually if they are very old). Note: This loses all per file settings you made with the old build!

Sigh, if only the Xbox was powerful enough for 720p and 1080p x264, then I'd still be able to use XBMC.    (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

So... has anyone said whether it's safe to have the T3CH downloader just overwrite your XBMC version while it's running?

As in, right now, I have the downloader grab the latest build, and extract it to a different folder than my current XBMC, then I fire up unleashx or some other dash, and copy the new files into the XBMC folder. Is this necessary, or am I just wasting my time being paranoid?

the Problem with Video Thumbnails is still there and its very annoying once I set content to IMDB or any other Scraper when I get the thumb for the first time it can not be changed any more even if I restart XBMC.

The only solution is to go back to the Thumbs Dir "E/Apps/XBMC/UserData/Thumbnails/Video/" and delete the pic that I dont want with the "ffffffff.tbn" file. Then go back to "E/Apps/XBMC/UserData/Database/" and delete the video DB files, and then set avere thing again from scratch.

can some one please fix this problem in the next build sad.gif I wish I did not clean install XBMC  sad.gif .

So... has anyone said whether it's safe to have the T3CH downloader just overwrite your XBMC version while it's running?

As in, right now, I have the downloader grab the latest build, and extract it to a different folder than my current XBMC, then I fire up unleashx or some other dash, and copy the new files into the XBMC folder. Is this necessary, or am I just wasting my time being paranoid?

I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but i've always just grabbed the t3ch rar's and copied over the files while XBMC is running and never had a single hiccup. I simply ftp everything over (including the xbe obviously) overwriting what it needs then reboot and i'm done. Never had any problems or anything.

Don't be silly. It's obvious that it is something you have done wrong, since nobody else is having the same problem with this release. With your attitude, I don't think you are going to get anybody trying to help you solve the problem anytime soon.

the Problem with Video Thumbnails is still there and its very annoying once I set content to IMDB or any other Scraper when I get the thumb for the first time it can not be changed any more even if I restart XBMC.

I just tested this (on this release), and it works fine for me. I changed one of my movies from the imdb thumbnail to a custom jpg, and back again without any problems.

the Problem with Video Thumbnails is still there and its very annoying once I set content to IMDB or any other Scraper when I get the thumb for the first time it can not be changed any more even if I restart XBMC.

The only solution is to go back to the Thumbs Dir "E/Apps/XBMC/UserData/Thumbnails/Video/" and delete the pic that I dont want with the "ffffffff.tbn" file. Then go back to "E/Apps/XBMC/UserData/Database/" and delete the video DB files, and then set avere thing again from scratch.

can some one please fix this problem in the next build sad.gif I wish I did not clean install XBMC  sad.gif .

yes changing back to a custom jpg or from another scraper is fine until you completely exit the Video Info screen the orginal thumbnail will not be changed in the Video Dir.

again if you change any picture while you are still in the Movie Info page it will change but as soon as you exit and go back to your movies the new thumbnail will not stick and the old will stay.

Can you please check again, and I'm sure the problem is there because when I change back to .XBMC-SVN_2007-02-26_rev7937-T3CH.rar I have NO problems at all.

can some one else check please thank you

Is there any way to scan a video source for changes to the library in this release, in the last one I could just go to set content and it would only add the new videos to the library, this release seems to re add all of them every time. Also is there any way that we could get a "update sources" button in library mode that scans all sources for deleted/new videos, that would be awesome.

I can confirm the thumbnails aren't changing for me either still. I noticed a post in the BUGS forums in XBMC forums, so it's known at least for users running into this. I redownloaded TECH build again since i noticed he accidently included an older xbe file, but it's still not working.

Checked, and checked again. I have exited, and the thumbnail is changed in the videolibary. It didn't take in the videofile view straight away, but after bringing up the movie info it takes no problem. So this isn't a problem for everybody. See if you get the same problem with a new database? Or export and re-import your video database? I'm definately not having the same problem with this build.

can I ask you 2 questions ?

How do you Ftp XBMC T3CH bilds to your xBox ? & What app do use for that ?

I have the exact same problem with manually selected vid thumbnails - they work fine when letting the scan get them, but when I try to change one manually, it reverts back when exiting the "movie information" screen. Also, the new thumb is always stored as ffffffff.tbn in the /userdata/thumbnails/videos folder. The problem exists with a 100% clean install of XBMC with a fresh userdata folder, its UDATA & TDATA folders wiped, x y & z drives, and e:/cache emptied. This from xbmc.log after exiting the movie information page:

07:32:54 M: 36052992   ERROR: XFILE::CFile::Delete - Error deleting file Z:\imdbthumb.jpg
07:32:59 M: 35430400   ERROR: DIRECTORY::CDirectory::Exists - Error checking for image://Browse

I've found that it copies over fine without a hitch so long as there are no screensavers going.  With screensavers it'll crap out partway through the transfer and I have to complete it in the xbmc-ftp-only-safe-mode thinger.

Oh, and NO XBE PROBLEM WOOOHAA WOOOHAA!  Using it as the dash, like it's supposed to be run.  No problemos aside from the persistent imdb stuff - but that's forgiveable since xbes are back up and running.

I personally use qwix to make an xiso then load into avalaunch and up it using qwix, but you can use whatever ftp app you want to up it, ie, flashfxp.

I dont know if its a little late or not but if you have the wrong thunbnial and want to change it this is how i got it to work. hit white and go to the movie information tab click Refresh and let it grab the movie info again then without exiting the movie info tab/screen select get thumb then change it to whatever you want and hit ok then back and it should change. If nto yes you dont have to delete the thumbnial cache but not the .db file just delete the .tbn and restart xbmc then scan the movie again

I also have the Icon issue, I noticed that in Library Mode, when I add a thumb to a file that does not currently have one, it will change in the Information window but does not appear when I return to the main view. To get the thumb to show up, I changed from Library mode to normal, then scanned the folder for new content, returned to Library Mode, and the thumb is there.

If the file does currently have a thumb (still in Library Mode here), it changes as normal.

When not in library mode, If i choose a source from the Video menu, then view the information of a file, when I changed the thumb here, it does not show up in the main view (or back in Library Mode), but upon navigating back to the sources menu, the last selected thumbnail, is located in the top left corner of the screen.

Other than that I love the way its all shaping up. Keep up the good work XBMC guys, hope these creases iron out easily for you!!!

Mark

after updating to T3CH XBMC 2007-03-23 SVN rev8306-PROPER, XBMC is no longer mounting the memory unit.  has anyone else experienced this problem.  it is however still recognized by all the games i've tested it on.

I personally use qwix to make an xiso then load into avalaunch and up it using qwix, but you can use whatever ftp app you want to up it, ie, flashfxp.

Thats why I asked the question, for me I just login to Xecuters X3 CE dash and FTP XBMC to the Xbox using FlashFxp to make sure all the files overwritten properly. What pissed me off that other people trying to be cleaver and act like the know every thing by denying the problem.

any way now there are more than three people with the same Thumbnail issue.

hopefully will be fixed soon, atm I'm using XBMC-SVN_2007-02-26_rev7937-T3CH.rar which does not have this problem but not all the skins work well with it  sad.gif .

v1.0 w/Xecuter 2.6

I tried X2 BIOS versions 5035, 5032, and 4983

with

XBMC T3CH builds from 3-04, 3-18, and 3-23 - all with PM3 skin

The only ones that froze with a black screen upon attempting to run any XBE were BIOS 5035 with 3-18 or 3-23 builds. Any other combination worked as it should.

So if I run the latest BIOS, I have to run a slightly older XBMC --- or can use the latest XBMC with a slightly older BIOS.

I did it out of curiosity, but maybe the info will help somebody.

wow, if you are going to update as soon as the next release is out, you should do it safely so you don't have to complain here about X not working and my box is messed up or whatever....

i simply boot to unleashx, FTP in with FlashFXP, rename the current xbmc folder to xbmc-old (or the actual revision number) and then FTP over the new xbmc to a folder named xbmc.

thus if there are any problems, then a simple renaming of 2 folders while in unleashx will bring me back to where i was just moments ago.

quit whining if you are going to test-drive the new builds...

THANKS to XBMC and T3CH for all of your hard work...

Thank you Thank you Thank you for XBMC and the on going improvements.

I unticked "Use Visualisation if playing audio."

Visualisation is still active when playing audio.

I'm having the same issue with IMDb as everyone else.

Also, some things are cut off or run into the right side of the screen. When I calibrate the screen the pictures from the Home screen shows at the right edge as sub-menus are accessed.

Again thanks for all of your hard work.

With this new build i am having trouble with MC360 skin, the animations are played too fast or don't load or something. So switching blades looks wrong. Also loads of text is overlapped on the menu's. Was fine last build. At least this build fixed the xbe loading problem.
Thanks T3CH

what?

i thought the idea of this forum was to bring attention to bugs in the new build.  We are very aware how easy it is to revert to older builds, thats not the point.  keep the smartass remarks to yourself.  if it wasnt for people reporting bugs in the builds than you probally wouldnt see any new ones, or revisions of current ones

The animations have been fixed in the xbmc svn since t3ch.  As for list view going in library mode yes you are correct "list 2" view was removed to make way for the othe new views like dvdcover and media info views.  But that was removed in the last t3ch release as well not just the one before proper.
Sorry if you liked it but I think the new ones are better anyway

I've noticed (what I think) is a bug, which I'll try to describe. I have on a 4:3 TV with high-def, so I run XBMC at 720p.

Sometimes, when XBMC is in 720p, the numbers in the timer bar are too large:

IPB Image

Here is the same movie with XBMC set to 480p. As you can see, the timer bar looks perfect:

IPB Image

However, I should note that the timer bar is not always messed up in 720p. Here's another shot from another movie. XBMC is set to 720p. As you can see, the timer bar looks great:

IPB Image

I hope that makes sense. I also have a request for Jezz_X. I love the work you've been doing on PMIII, but I miss one screen from the old version. This screenshot is from 2.01. This screen would come on after about a minute of the music playing. I really liked it because you got a simple uncluttered screen but you could still see the RSS. I hope I'm not the only one who cares about this and that you can bring it back. Thanks.

The font issue is known.

In the view with the large text, you are running a 480p screenmode.  It's using the 720p fonts, however, as fonts are only loaded on skin load, they're not dynamically loaded as needed.

Starting with the same quote as ever:
"Wonderful, awesome, incredible job!"

My question:
1 - The START.WAV is not playing on my XBMC-2007-03-23 Svn Rev8306 Proper.
I did check and the file is right there at its very own place, but it does
not play at all!

Is this happening only to me?

Other things:
2 - Personally I don't like the recent introduced scroll bars. For my opinion
it breaks the cleanness of the skin. It could be nice to have a ON/OFF
switch for scrollbars in the settings menu, what do you think, guys?
At the moment I did build my own textures.xpr and "hard-removed"
the scroll PNGs from the package (just to satisfy my soul).
(c:

3 - When we load the XBMC, right after the SPLASH.PNG now we
have a sort of "opening" animation - I mean, the screen "opens" horizontally
from middle to top and bottom, just like kind of a door revealing the XBMC home page.
I don't like it too. I really prefer a simple fade in present in the past builds.

4 - I did use to read a lot of comics on past builds. I love
the golden and silver age of Marvel, but since XBMC 07-03-18
the bug of ZOOMING IN AND OUT is still there. I know there
is a official bug report registered, but it looks like someone
is not paying so much attention to it. If I did miss comments
from T3CH or other developers about the bug in other
posts, pardon me - but it could be great to have
some official words about it here --- even a: "Yes! We are taking
care of it" could be perfect!

Sorry if I am being extravagant here, but it's just my opinion.
With the new builds, you guys made me buy a brand new 250GB
exclusively for my Xbox! Hurrah!

PS. Don't be mad about my excess of words. My english
is not good and sometimes I need to write a lot to be able
to express simple terms and words.

2) why dont you look around in the menus instead of just typing a rant here? guess what's sitting in skin options.
3) all skin - do it yourself.

Sorry if it's a NOOB question, but what are the (good) reasons for installing these latest svc releases, instead of the latest "stable" release 2.0.1 ?

Pros:
More features, tends to work faster and is usually more reliable. The last FAT release is quite a few months old now, so there's a big difference between that and the latest SVN.

Cons:
With each SVN release some features are fixed or improved, but others may be broken; Sometimes important functions (such as the ability to boot XBE files) won't work in a given release.

QUOTE(walterg74 @ Mar 27 2007, 11:51 AM) View Post
And also, how come the content is smaller than the "fat" version of 2.0.1? Did they take stuff out?

Most of the file size differences you'll see have to do with the size of the skins included in the builds. They don't relate much to the functionality present in the package.

all my xbe's launch fine if you rename them default.xbe instead of, for example, avalaunch.xbe or evolution.xbe.

i also wanted to confirm that the latest build does not mount the memory unit but the one before it works fine.

i love not having to go the the ms dash to turn off 480p, 720p and 1080i now when i want to use AMT.  Regarding that, if you turn off the HD settings in XBMC and then turn them back on and try to change the resolution to either 720 or 1080, XBMC freezes and you have to turn off the xbox and turn it back on.  If you restart XBMC everything works fine.

Does a clean install include removal of your user data folder? Thats the only thing I havent treid yet, and still no xbes launch.

It's strange, I do a clean install in that I ftp XBMC over as XBMC_new, then I delete the User Data folder in the new directory, copy over my User Data folder from the existing install, then I rename XBMC to XBMC_old and XBMC_new to XBMC and reboot.

I don't have any .xbe issues (running a 1.6 w/ X2 5035 BIOS), but I do have the thumb issue.  Usually for the thumbs, I make the change to the custom thumb that I want and use the File Manager to delete the current thumbs directory in the User Data folder.  When I browse, it picks up all the correct thumbnails that I set.

I just copied the t3ch build across to my Apps folder and laucnhed it from EvoX and have the same problem re xbes.  So it can't even be related to the way i've updated my xbmc as that was as that copy wouldnt even have had my user data folder to cock stuff up.

Still confused....

How do so many things get messed up in XBMC builds?  Alot of the issues things were working fine on the March 12th build.  These last 2 builds have nothing but major issues.

I can probably search thru the past release threads...but what previous build has the least amount of bugs reported?

Its called progress  dry.gif  when you add new stuff it sometimes dosn't work 100% when you change existing stuff to let the new stuff work you sometimes break it.   If you don't like that things are broken then don't use svn builds and wait for the stable builds simple as that.  no one tells you to update on a weekly basis everytime t3ch release something, you do it because you think "Oh thats a cool new thing I want"  rolleyes.gif The SVN is the development platform for xbmc it was never never meant to be a place to upload stuff that works 100% as soon as it goes in, would be nice if that was the case but it isn't.

When highlighting filenames in list mode that have long file names, one can see just a bit more of the name before it starts scrolling.

It happens in PM3 and MC360. I realise it's more of a feature than a bug, but I thought I'd mention it.

It would look better if they both matched up.

File - very.long.filename.that.does.not.fit.the.space.avi
NH  - very.long.filename.that.does.not.fi
H    - very.long.filename.that.does.not.fit

NH = None Highlighted
H   = Highlighted

I hope I get my point across?!

It's because when its not highlighted it dosn't show half/incomplete letters and when it selected and scrolling it does.  You may think they are full letters but the letter might be 16pixels wide and only 14 is showing

Does a clean install include removal of your user data folder? Thats the only thing I havent treid yet, and still no xbes launch.

With FTP:

- Copied new XBMC to Xbox HDD (temp location)

in XBMC:

- Deleted XBMC save (in XBMC, gamesaves)
- Deleted files E:\Cache\
- Made backup of XBMC\Userdata\

In EvoX dash:

- Formatted X: / Y: /Z: (password for format menu = Xbox)
- Deleted old XBMC (completely)
- Moved new XBMC to correct location
- Copied only the Thumbs\Music folder from Userdata backup to new XBMC (To keep my Album thumbs)

Reboot!

Only thing to do now is change the settings of XBMC as u like.

I know its progress smile.gif I was just wondering about the whole process in general.  I was just thinking to myself:

"if they coded all this before and it worked perfectly fine.  I would not touch that part of the code/file cause I know it's working fine."

But I didn't take into effect that once you work on new stuff in code/files, it could break/mess up stuff on a different file/code.

what exactly is the xbe problem.  the only issue i've ever had is if you dont rename them to default.xbe they will show up as folders until you reach the xbe file located in the folder.  for example, i had to rename avaluanch.xbe to default.xbe and evoxdash.xbe to default.xbe.

also, am I the only one experiencing the issue with mounting of a memory card.  I even tried the keymap.xml from the previous build to no avail.  personally its not a big deal at all to me since the card still works, but since this is happening it has me intrigued to find out why.  I wont pretend to know how the coding works with XBMC, its not as easy as, say, evox, so I wont bother to throw out random ideas as to what is causing it.  one thing I know for certain though is its not the keymap.xml

Are you referring to the screen saver, or to the background image behind menus?

The music visualisations like milkdrop and such.

That I understand. What I'm asking is: When and/or where do the unwanted visualisations appear?

Have you suffered the xbe problem and fixed it in this way?

I'm pretty certain its not to do with the way in which I update XBMC as I have wiped the x, y and z drives, cleared specific folders from the Udata and Tdata folders, tried it with and without my userdata folder and the problem persists.  I am stumped if it is to do with the way in which I am updating XBMC.

Is it known if this is still a problem within XBMC that wasn't completely fixed before the t3ch build was released and is it fixed in SVN now? or is it down to the way in which I am updating from the previous t3ch build where this was originally spotted i believe?

I'm not sure which step did the trick. My problems with XBE's started when i installed the March (4-3-07?) versions.

I'll be gentle with my response as seeing your username explains your question to a 'T'. When we say Search 1st, we aren't kidding. Your thumbnail answer is LITERALLY already answered right above your post. Was a bug that was fixed in a very recent build. Which you need to build yourself if you don't want to wait til the next T3CH build. Typically a new build is almost weekly, sometimes a day or two earlier, or later. You don't have to use your current build if you don't like it. Just use an older build til the next T3CH one is released.
Your GUIDE question building your own is answered in the 3rd pinned thread at the very top that says Important Threads and Topics!! Read! So go check that out to get your answer. A few things you will need to be able to compile your own. One is not legal, so no answers will be given to any "Where can i get the xbox XDK???" questions, in addition to posssible getting banned if at the least a harsh warning, you'll have to venture and search yourself for that. Not too to do though. But iuf you don't want ot do that, just stick with getting the T3CH builds as they come out.

Thanks to Spiff for fixing the thumbnail bug!!!!! Nice to have it working again!!!!!   smile.gif  cool.gif  smile.gif

Kinda off topic but cant help noticing all these posts with people using really old school ways to update their builds, making discs and using flashfxp and the like. Just thought id let you guys know you can do it in about 2 mins if you have your box networked.
There are a couple of really good tuts in the forums somewhere, but you can just set up a network or even just add your box as a network place, it takes like 2 mins and to be honest i think the windows wizard does it all for you anyway. Once you done that you can just copy in from your PC, or just do it all using XBMC.

All I do is copy in my new build under the name XBMCNEW or similar, then fire up unleashx, rename my old one to XBMCOLD and my new one to XBMC and reboot. Hey presto, all done. Plus that way, you have a back up on your box in case the new build is crappy, and also you can just copy across all you userdata to the new build if you wanna keep sources and stuff.

Anyway, like i say, I find that a lot easier than using flashfxp, creating discs etc etc.
Hope it helps

I agree - if your xbox isn't hooked up to your home network, you're REALLY missing out on 90% of XBMC's potential.

My upgrade procedure is a little more involved, though. I generally use a T3CH release

1) ftp into xbox booted up into UnleashX
2) rename XBMC to XBMC.bak
3) upload new XBMC folder
4) via UnleashX file manager, copy from XBMC.bak => XBMC:
* UserData folder (overwrite new)
* skins (other than freshly updated PM3)
* scripts (other than the 3 included)
* Apple Movie Trailers data folder (this doesn't always work, but saves a buttload of time when it does)

That's pretty much it. The only time to not copy your UserData folder is if you're having major problems - it holds all your thumbnails, movie info, sources, keymappings, settings, etc. Before all the settings moved into the userdata folder, I used to go thru and edit the fresh xboxmediacenter.xml with every single update - man am I glad I don't have to do that anymore.   smile.gif
