Title: Xboxmediacenter - May 21th 2006 Cvs Build
Post by: XanTium on May 21, 2006, 05:36:00 PM
XboxMediaCenter CVS build of May 21th 2006 compiled by T3CH.
This is a complete snapshot of what is in CVS at the time the build was compiled, with just a few small additions.

Special Note From T3CH:
QUOTE

* Since XBMC is in a FEATUREFREEZE at the moment, I've decided to make more than one BUILD per week.
If you want to report bugs, please do it the PROPER way, see http://manual.xboxme...SubmitBugReport

* Please note: Support for skins with versions < 2.0 has been removed

* No PM2 included since I couldn't find an updated version since last build.

* Slightly tweaked version of QTB included. Thx Donno!

* If you wondered what happened to XBoxMediaCenter.xml, More info here and here.

NOTEWORTHY, XML and SCRIPT CHANGES IN THIS BUILD
QUOTE

* changed: Moved "Allow file operations", "Unroll RAR Archives" and "Ignore The When Sorting" to the global File Lists settings (under Appearance). Removed the Video OSD timeout setting, the Low quality renderer option and the "Enlarge VobSubs" option.

* Keymap.xml: no changes

* XBoxMediaCenter.xml:
<home> tag has been removed. If you want to use XBMC as Dashboard you now have two choices left:
- Using the RENAME_ME.xbe provided (see instructions below)
- Booting the xbe directly by tweaking BootXbe in your bios (example: using BootXbe 'E:\Apps\XBMC\default.xbe').

Install notes from T3CH readme/nfo:
QUOTE

* DASHBOARD INSTALL (softmods)
See http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=406656

* DASHBOARD INSTALL
Thanks to a new app called 'Team UIX's Xbe Shortcut Maker v1.0' by JbOnE, it's now extremely easy...
Edit XBMC\xboxmediacenter.xml to your liking & transfer contents of XBMC folder TO (this is VERY important) "E:\APPS\XBMC\". Rename <<RENAME_ME.xbe>> to something your bios can boot  (see http://manual.xboxme...BMCAsDash#h44-3 or read your BIOS README) and transfer to your C partition. No need to fiddle with HOME tag anymore, and future upgrades you won't need to worry about this file on C.

* APPLICATION INSTALL
Edit XBMC\xboxmediacenter.xml to your liking.
Transfer _whole_ XBMC folder to your APPS folder.

* UPGRADE TIPS
If you're updating from a VERY old/bad build you may get issues. Follow these simple rules:
- Replace (FTP OVERWRITE) all files in your XBMC folder with fresh ones from your new build
- Delete old savegame/settings (from E:/TDATA/0face008)
- In some rare cases some of the database files in XBMC/Albums/*.db may need manual deletion (usually if they are very old). Note: This loses all per file settings you made with the old build!

The XBMC manual is available on The XboxMediaCenter manual has also been updated with information about the trainer feature, check it out on manual.xboxmediacenter.de.
You can add more scripts and skins yourself if desired. You can download them from http://allxboxskins.com, http://www.xbox-skins.net and http://www.xbmcscripts.com.
Keep in mind this is a CVS snapshot of the current development tree. It's not a official (stable) point release. Use only if you know what you are doing.

I hate the way they changed this to run as a dashboard.  It really messes with my current softmod setup.  (IMG:http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_30.gif)

so XBMC needs to be run from E:\APPS\XBMC\ folder?.. whats about lowercase likeE:|apps\xbmc? ( do xbmc care about launch path directory case?)

XBMC can actually run from ANY location on the Xbox, provided ALL the stuff associated with it is in the same directory (the default.xbe, main XML, skin files, ect). the only thing that requires you to use E:\Apps\XBMC is the Rename_Me.xbe shortcut. the thing in my sig explains it. i predict we will be dealing with questions about this for freaking months sad.gif

I asked this a month back, but people thought I was taking the piss................ so I'll ask again.

I don't understand why the readme / change log says "added x" and "added y" when the application is in a feature freeze?

Does this make sense to anyone?

I was worry that when I read "YOU MUST NOW USE A SHORTCUT XBE (SEE THE in-cludeD ONE) TO RUN XBMC AS DASH" from the changelog that the way I boot XBMC wouldn't work anymore... But it does and I don't have to worry about making a shortcut...... I keep my XBMC in the folder F:\XBMC\ then I rename default.xbe to xbmc.xbe.... then I simply boot into my Xecuter 3 bios and tell it too boot F:\XBMC\xbmc.xbe... been doing that for well over a year and I'm happy I can keep doing that..............

........but just one question....... what happened to the standard XBMC boot logo and sound? It's been gone from these last 2 T3CH builds and I kinda miss it..... lol....

ok, got a question here.. i have never used the shortcut xbe before. up to this point, i had always modified the home tag to my liking and been done with it. i personally prefer to keep all my system files and programs/apps on the c:\ drive (as i like to keep my rooster teeth downloads on e:) before this change, i would have xbmc.xbe in the root of c:\ and simply edit the home tag to read c:\xbmc\ ..

i'm assuming that without the home tag this will no longer work, correct? in order to do i'd have to either:

a.. put all xbmc folder contents directly in the root of c:\ (which i would hate to do as it screws my organization)

b.. create a shortcut xbe that would sit in the root and direct the box to run xbmc.xbe which would now be located in c:\xbmc\

am i assuming correctly here, or would my current setup still work for this build (and subsequent builds) ?

EDIT: haha.. guess i was typing when the post above me was written. all this time i never even thought of adding the path name in my x3 bios.. i was just naming the xbe itself and having it look in c:\ .... man do i feel like a tard. laugh.gif

LOL.... I'm very familar with XBOX modding and like to keep things very clean... I left the C and E drive alone and everything gets installed to the F drive... I always hated that at 1st all the bios would only boot from one location and filename.... I used to just use the m7 or m8 bios and use the editor to change boot paths to make things load stuff from the F drive.... I upgraded from the X2.3Pro to a X3 within the 1st month the X3 was released.. it makes thing so much easier because you can change settings on the fly... and I recommend that anyone who doesn't have a X3 to get one... or at least if your chip current chip supports 512 banks then use the X2 5035 bios... all you have to do is edit a config file on the root of E and change how your system boots... you could just edit the config file and tell it to boot xbmc from any location... and not have to worry about using the shortcut maker.... plus the many other feature you can change....

1. So that we can remove some confusing settings for users (a 2.0 requirement)
2. Ditto
3. Ditto
4. Gotta have things as localized as we can (thanks translators!)
5. Due to a bug in that you couldn't open My Videos with a forced path if you'd previous switched to Genre view etc.
6. Due to the new caching scheme for thumbs, this could cause custom thumbs to be reduced in size - this alleviates this issue.
7. So that we can remove XBoxMediaCenter.xml (a 2.0 requirement)

Out of all those fixes, you are essentially complaining about a couple of tiny additions which were only made in order to get 2.0 out the door.

We want it to be a solid release.  It's not going to be solid unless we as developers have time to implement things properly, and if we get decent feedback from users as to where the outstanding bugs + issues are.

We welcome all assistance in this regard.  You aren't helping one bit.

well yeah, i've been rocking strictly x3's since they came out.. fantastic chip (specially since 1 of em was free.. lol)

but this whole time i've simply been editing the xbe name itself, and not thinking to type in the location as well.. like i'd change the boot to xbmc.xbe, and not c:\xbmc\xbmc.xbe as i could have..

oh well.. learn something new everyday i guess.. thanks beerchug.gif

I'm still having some issues playing quicktime files.  Some movies will have no sound (audio stream is listed as unnamed).  The same videos worked in the builds before 5-5.

Here's one quicktime video I had that no longer has sound:

Caroline: Please specify WHY the new My Programs setup didn't work well for you.  We can't improve things if we don't know about the issues.

And we're moving to NO config files that the user has to edit.  Everything is available in the GUI - you don't have to touch any of the xml files.  (Playlists would have been fine - a requester pops up asking for the location when you save a playlist, or first access the playlists location - you can add it by using the "Add source" option on the context menu from the root of My Music)

Cheers,
Jonathan

OK so I'm playing around with the advancedsettings.xml, and I have a problem I can't get the settings for video to stick. The newmyprograms does however. Anyone have the same problem or might know what I'm doing wrong.

  <audiodelayrange>10</audiodelayrange>

  <smallstepbackdelay>300</smallstepbackdelay>
  <usetimeseeking>true</usetimeseeking>
  <timeseekforward>20</timeseekforward>
  <timeseekbackward>-20</timeseekbackward>

  <percentseekbackward>-1</percentseekbackward>
  <percentseekforwardbig>5</percentseekforwardbig>

DamnÂ…

Can anyone build me a shortcut to F:/Apps/XBMC/ ? Are there really that few people using a custom HDD that the XBMC Team consider it worthy to add a shortcut for E: but not for F:?

My computer is a PPC Mac and Virtual PC does not happen to like that shortcut builder, so I would appreciate the help.

Hi Jonathan,

When I used the <newmyprograms>true</newmyprograms> option, selecting "my programs" from the home screen would take me to icons linking to my video sources,  I can "back"out of it and have everything appear as normal - I guess I'm used to the <default> option for each category in xboxmediacenter.xml and not sure if it's something that can be set in the advanced xml file. (not sure if I'm making sense)

I don't mean to contradict you about the playlist creation but I had no such pop-up to create a location.  I just had the keyboard on the display and I typed in my name and hit done - the playlist did not appear.  I did have to physically create the location.  I see how the pop-up works in other areas, because on this install, I deleted my cache, UDATA & TDATA/0face008 information. and xbmc prompted me for ripping location and directory for shoutcast recordings.

Please don't think I'm complaining, I'm certainly not - I've found these cvs, snapshot releases to be very reliable!  As you can see I rarely communicate as mostly I read other's responses to solve my issues, which are usually few and I can solve pretty quickly!

Thanks,

Caroline

I have the same arrangement - I made this with the shortcut maker.  It points to F:\Apps\XBMX\default.xbe

Good explanations but to be honest, this is exactly why people question the "feature freeze" status.
Something like the removal of XBoxMediaCenter.xml is a major change for the entire program. IMHO that should have been made before feature freeze. Now you'll have to look for bugs you introduced with that change.

Don't get me wrong, its a good change. But if you're still doing changes like this you're not in feature freeze.
OTOH it doesn't matter how you call it. You're eliminating the last bugs and finishing everything up for a great 2.0 release. I for one am waiting to see a polished awesome 2.0 no matter how many "added" stuff still comes our way. I know you can do it!

Thanks for all the hard work!

If not, this is my complaint:

Before if I messed up with an xbmc dashboard install, the xbmc xbe would always load up ftp and I could fix my problem.  If this Shortcut thing doesn't have ftp and I install xbmc as a dashboard incorrectly, I'm going to be hurting with a dead xbox.  I'll have to remove the harddrive and redo it hooked up to my pc.

I don't know for sure but would imagine that the shortcut xbe does nothing but forward to the specified app and not have nay kind of FTP server in itself.

I always keep a boot-disc with FTP support at hand (like Slayers or Auto Installer Deluxe), just incase something like this happens. No need to tear your Xbox apart, just load the disc.

No, it doesn't support ftp!

I know this because I had mis-created my shortcut last night and had to load 007 to get ftp access and fix my problem.  You shouldn't have to re-do your hard drive if it fails, just load up a softmod to gain ftp access and correct the problems!

Thing is though, you install the shortcut ONCE, then you never need to touch it again, so I'm sure you can take your time and do it right  love.gif

Cheers,
Jonathan

I really like the "Add Source" option.... I couldn't beleive how easy it was to add SMB shares with it... I always did it manually within the xml file for the later 2 years.... its so much better the new way....

Also... just a reminder to those that have a x3 chip and x3 bios installed.... that the bios has built in FTP support... so if you messed up something on the HD and need to fix it.. just boot into the bios to use FTP... instead of having to make a boot disc....

Sorry for dubble posting couldn't find a edit button, the settings button is broken. As in the one you get when you press white.

I've got the same problem .  When you select the settings option using the white button, nothing happens.  The actual settings menu does stilll work though.

Settings is fixed.

Also, there is a shortcut xbe in our CVS that is distributable (ie built with openxdk) that uses a .cut file (not that the filename may be changing to .cfg shortly) to choose the xbe to execute.

You can grab it from webcvs if you want - it's in the Tools/ShortcutXBE folder.

It works simple:

Rename to whatever your bios boots.

Place a text file with the full path to the xbe you want to shortcut to, and name it the same as the xbe but with extension .cut

If the .cut file isn't there, the xbe automatically falls back to avalaunch.xbe, evoxdash.xbe and unleashx.xbe for FTP access, and will then fall back to the MSdash (xboxdash.xbe etc.), so there's little chance of you screwing things up.  We are currently debating whether to add common paths to XBMC as fallbacks or not.

Caroline - not sure why you were getting your videos list - feel free to pop along to #xbmc on EFnet if you want to discuss further.  There has been some minor fixes, though nothing related to that.

Cheers,
Jonathan

no more hand editing XML sounds great smile.gif

i also confirm the context menu "settings" option bug.

one thing i just realized, in the My Programs settings, there's only Video Mode Switching for 60Hz games. since i am in the USA, i use NTSC. it would seem that for NTSC users, a "50Hz games" option would make more sense, since our games are normally 60Hz and we want to make our 50Hz (PAL) games run @ 60Hz automatically. maybe an option could be added to the Video Mode switching to pick which kind of game you want effected, since it would make no sense to have to effect both 50 and 60Hz games. i just figured this would be a good idea since XBMC has always been developed as a global project for use anywhere in the world...

another bug report:
after you enable the new My Programs mode, subdirectories directly off of a bookmark containing programs are displayed and navigateable.
this lets you have additional levels of sorting in your stuff, for example:
say you have the normal Games bookmark, pointing at F:\Games\.
instead of having your games all in subdirectories of F:\Games\, you could have folders for each genre of game (a thing some people have talked about doing in the past on this forum), so like
F:\Games\Action
F:\Games\RPG
etc...
your actual games would be located like so:
F:\Games\Action\Halo 2\default.xbe
F:\Games\RPG\Morrowind\default.xbe

then, when you click the Games bookmark in My Programs, instead of a giant list of all your games, you will instead see the folders you made for each genre.
the bug is this: unlike the other sections of XBMC, in My Programs you cannot press the usual button (like B on the controller, Backspace on keyboard) to go "Back" up one level. instead pressing this control pushes you back to the My Programs root sad.gif this is most inconvenient if you have the Parent Folders item turned off like me, and i'm assuming this behavior is a development oversite and not really a true bug. in any case, it "isn't right" wink.gif

I am having an issue with the playlists, I can't seem to simply add by pressing 0, and then title to go to "now playing". Any ideas?

Thanks Guys.

I just updated today with this build, could be a bug, I dunno.

here we go again.

slumberpod; apply some brains wink.gif

you obviously want ntsc games to run in ntsc. and u state that u want pal games to do that as well.

this is precisely what happens if you DISABLE auto switching. you have no need for auto switching. it doesn't make sense to have a auto switcher that does nothing.

Did they remove the ability to use the DVD Remote's keypad to jump to a certain time in a video file? Pressing the numbers does nothing for me

well, we removed the default keymapping for it since we wanted to use the numeric keys for stuff such as the volume etc. however, if u map them back to the numbers, the function is still there.

The reason that there's a 60Hz games option is that 60Hz games may run in NTSC-M, NTSC-J or PAL60 modes. 50Hz games only run in PAL mode so that's the only option.

Should I submit the emulator/xport problem as an official bug of the newer CVS's? Does that qualify as a bug?

yep, always log at sourceforge if you want a stand a higher chance of getting it fixed. remember to in-cluded as many details such as chip type, bios you are running, region(pal or ntsc) etc as possible.

also in-clude a debug log if you can.
