Title: Xbmc Streaming Tv Pack
Post by: timdog82001 on May 06, 2006, 01:22:00 AM
Ok, I'm posting my pack of .strm files as requested by a fellow member here.  What this is is a collection of .strm files all organized and categorized, with thumbnails and all that jazz.  I basicaly just sorted through all the winamp stations and all other online stations I could find, and figured out which ones worked.  I've got it all organized into Anime, Music TV, Educational, News, Sports, Video Clips, Variety TV, plus a few other, and some subcategories as well.  Video clips is basically stations that just play a variety of random cool or funny clips or short films and stuff like that.  Variety TV is full of programming you would actually find on a regular TV station, with ESS.tv being the biggest component here.  Ess.tv has about 50 streams, each streaming a different program 24/7.  There's one station that does seinfeld all day long, one for Lost, one for CSI, Family Guy, South Park, and so on.  And they generally start at the first episode, go up to the most recent, and then circle right back around.  Quality isn't TV quality of course, but it's definitely still enjoyable.  Just FYI, ess.tv is actually a pay service.  You can still watch it without paying anything, but if a subscriber decides to watch the same thing you're watching, and there are already too many other viewers, you may get kicked off.  However, if you decide to subscribe, it's only 5 bucks a month, which is a great deal considering all the awesome shows you get, and that you'll be in a situation where there will basically NEVER be "nothing on."  GBStv is another cool one under Video Clips, which is a user controlled station and you can go to their website (www.gbs.tv) and search their database of available videos and if you see something you'd like to watch, you can then queue it up to play on the stream.  They seem to have a lot of cool/interesting/rare videos there.  You can even upload your own videos and then have them play on there.  It's pretty neat.  Anyway, it's all pretty smoothly organized and executed I think, and I hope somebody can get some use out of this.    Here's the link to the download:
http://depositfiles.com/en/files/44604/Streaming_TV.rar.html

PS -  For those of you who don't know, streaming video seems to be one of the glitchier sides of XBMC at the moment, so it will sometimes freeze after coming out of a video feed, or while trying to access one, but it will usually free up after a minute or so.  Something I've noticed is that occasionally if I try exiting a video stream by pressing "B" it will freeze, but when pressing "start" and then the stop button, it pretty much never freezes.  Also, all these stations have been tested and I have used them all succesfully.  If it doesn't seem to be working it's probably because it is already full and can't accept any more viewers at the moment.  Also, most may realize this as well, but with many of these video streams, the audio will be a little off from the video.  GBStv, for example, recommends you adjust the audio to +1.0 to match up with the video.  Somewhere between 1 and 1.2 usually seems to be the range for fixing the audio delay, but there are of course some exceptions.  Also, in the ESS.tv stations, the names there are ones I gave to them, and the stations themselves are subject to change, the names don't change along with them.  I've found they've changed a couple of stations around in the past month or so since I first installed them.  If you notice something like that, please let me know.

Where should these files be placed in the XBMC directory structure? Is there anything that needs to be done to let XBMC know they are there?

You can put them anywhere you want. You could make a link to them in videos...or you could just browse to them via the file explorer.

Something like this under the video section would work:

CODE

Video Streams
F:\Media\Streams

Yeah, I just put it on my E drive and then made a bookmark for it in my videos section, but you could put it anywhere you have room.  By the way, if you have a newish version of xbmc, you don't have to manually edit the xml, you  can do it from within xbmc by pressing the white button while one of the bookmarks is highlighted and it will give you the option to "add source."  Pretty handy.

I rather doubt its a problem with the upload, but you can easily check if the files are corrupted by opening the .strm files with notepad.  A lot of these stations are just really popular stations, and xbmc doesn't have a way of telling you when a room is full so instead it just times out.  The ess.tv stations are especially popular, and unless you're a subscriber, at any given time there isn't likely to be more than 3 or 4 stations open.  You can try checking by trying to get into the NewsRadio or Bullshit station under the ess.tv section, those are both free about 80 percent of the time...or try accessing the gbs.tv servers under the comedy section of Video Clips, there are like 5 different servers for the same feed, I don't think i've ever had a problem getting into at least one of their servers.

most of them dont work for me,  bullshit and sex and the city are the only shows that work for me. The other shows the box comes up like its about to load the show then closes.... is there anything i can do to fix it??

most of the channels are really popular so its hard to get into a lot of them....Also, I noticed for some reason it would start not letting me get into anything but if i restarted my xbox i could get into channels again.  I already mentioned this but i don't know how many people actually read anything past the first post....Ess.tv (the thing with most of the good stations)  is a subscription service.  You can usually get into a couple of stations but may end up getting booted whena  subscriber decides to get on.  Its all luck...Sometimes you can get on a good station like Lost and watch it for hours, and other days you can't get into anything but bullshit and you get kicked out after 15 minutes.  Have you tried the gbs.tv channels in the Video Clips section?  I can ALWAYS get into at least one of those.  If not, maybe there is something wrong....You could try playing with your network settings, i dunno.

most of the ones you'd think would work like:

researchTV and cspan work fine just about all the time...if you are trying to access tvshow/music/movie/entertainment ones, then you get what you pay for...literally.

If you can't get some of them to work on the xbox, you'd likely have trouble at the same time on a computer. these streams are worldwide and they get filled up. welcome to the internet.

eitherway great streampack, definately fills a hole that the old geux streampack left when it stopped being updated...

by the way, if anybody finds some new source that has a lot of stations that might be good to add to this pack, feel free to mention it.  Assuming it's quality stuff and I have the time, I'd probably be willing to go through it and add it to the pack.  The only thing I have in my streampack that's not in the version I've got hosted is ess.tv added a station for House MD.  I don't think I'll actually update it until I've got more than one channel to add, but if anybody wants to add it themselves, the url is http://70.85.74.74:11411;stream.nsv

Ok, everyone here seems to know exactly what they're doing or everything is working fine for them and not me.  I put everthing on my xbox and tried opening them and I got nothing. I've clicked on every file in that folder and all it does is making a clicking noise and does nothing. I'm either doing something wrong or there's a problem. Is there something obvious that I'm missing?

My links worked great!  Then I installed the new build (T3CH 666 with MC360 skin).  Now none of the streams work.  In addition, the streams used to have channel names on them, now they just have the stream address listed in the MyVideo window.

Is there something wrong with this build?

Ya lots of things wrong with the build.  T3CH rushed it for MC360 it looks like.

I just reverted back to my older one and everything is great.

this is my first time using streams with xbmc and i am having some trouble getting them to play. I placed them on the E drive and can browse to them fine. However, once i click on a stream, nothing happens. I am accessing them from the my video section. Also, I know the new xbmc build is currently undergoing some problems and have upgraded to the xbmc june 11th build. Accessing other types of media from my server is not a problem and i am able to retrieve the weather settings as well. Is it just a problem with the build or is there something I am just not doing right. Sorry for the newbie question.

I just tried it out and it's doing the same thing to me, nothing pops up at all, so I'm guessing that in the newest t3ch build that streaming video is more or less broken for the time being, at least when it comes from .strm files, since the quicktime browswer seems to work decently well....So, hopefully, in the next release they will have this fixed.

im going to try these tonight but im unsure of 1 thing,   it says in the first post to change the audio to 1 or 1.2 so thers no delay (out of sync) but where do i change that?
Title: Xbmc Streaming Tv Pack
Post by: timdog82001 on June 13, 2006, 11:16:00 AM
You only need to change the audio delay with some of the stations, some are just fine, you have to do each station individually....But to do it, while watching a station, press start, go to audio options, and audio delay should be one of the options.

Patricksull:  There's a really cool conspiracy station not in the pack that I found on winamp, but it has one of those intro vids it plays before it goes into the actual stream, and I can't figure out anyway of getting xbmc to play it without just quitting after the initial video.  Does anybody know of any way of doing this?

I just checked a few on the computer, and they work for me.  Maybe there's something weird with your internet connection or your router?  Who knows, but other people here have reported that they still work fine on older builds, I have yet to try this though.  I've just been too busy lately to even bother watching anything.  I'm sure the problem will be rectified soon anyway.  By the way, I just found a huge new collection of tv streams (about 50 anime and 125 or so tv show stations) but they're all subscription (7 or 8 bucks a month  for just the tv shows, like 12 with the anime) and I don't think you can watch anything for free like you can with ess.tv.  If you guys are REALLy interested, I might be willing to go through all those, I dunno though, cause I'm not so sure I would even use it, because I rather prefer not paying for things, and that would really take a pretty long time, and I don't exactly have a surplus of that at the moment.  So let me know if you guys realllly want this.  Maybe a small paypal donation would encourage me to go through with it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) haha

PS:  spookywillow:  When you tried them on your computer, what did you do?  Did you open the.strm files and copy and paste the url into the browser?  I'm not sure what it says if that stream doesn't exist anymore (probably 404 page not found or something similar) but if it just said "400 server full" or something like that, it means the stream is definitely working but just that it can't take any more viewers at the moment.  Also, I'm not sure, but you may have to have winamp or VLC or something similar installed on your computer for it to work, since it would carry the appropriate codecs or plug-ins or whatever.  Winamp literally invented the format most of these streams use.

EDIT:  Here is a list of shows that those new streams offer.  I imagine that since it's a subscribtion service, they make sure there's always room in any given server, so you'll never experience a full room or get booted out like happens with free stations.  I imagine that if you watch a fair amount of tv t his might be worth it.  Also, by the way, they said the streams are around 200+ kbps, but that they're extremely compressed, so they probably are pretty close to the quality of the ess.tv stations for those of you who have seen anything on there.  Also, these also are of course commercial free and each program has a dedicated station that it runs on 24/7, with newest episodes added "within a couple of days."

Hmm...Well, that's pretty strange.  This may sound like a no brainer, but you are certain that you have internet right?  You can get RSS feeds and the weather?  Anyway, it sounds to me like its either a problem with the network where xbmc isn't seeing the internet, or a problem with the build.  My advice would be just to hang on to the pack for a week or two (hopefully they have this fixed by next week) and then give it a shot when we've got a working version of xbmc.

If you mean a stream that works 100%, try the GBS.tv stations.  They're under comedy in the Video Clips folder.  There are like 4 or 5 different streams of the same exact content so traffic gets split up between them and I've never had a problem getting into at least one of those stations.

A fresh install of xbmc or your entire xbox?  Assuming it was just xbmc, they should still be on your xbox, unless you put them in the xbmc folder, which isn't necessary.  You can put them absolutelly anywhere, it doesn't matter in the least, just as long as you can access them from xbmc.  I have it on the root directory of my E drive, others have it in F, you could even put it in C or G if you have a G.  Just put it wherever you like, and then make a link to it in the Video Section as explained on the first page in this thread.  But, as mentioned, if you have a new version of xbmc, the streams won't work, something's screwed up in the latest builds, but I'm sure it will be fixed shortly.

Also, due to a lack of response of any kind, I take it nobody's interested in all those 150 or so new stations I found I mentioned a couple of posts back?

yeah, the ess.tv streams are extremely popular.  If you go to the ess.tv website (which is just http://ess.tv i think, or something very similar, it might be a www, not sure), you can pay 5 dollars to be a monthly subscriber which pretty much guarantees you a spot, same as that other site i mentioned a couple of posts up.  Usually, if you check all the ess.tv streams, at least one or two of them work, especially bullshit and newsradio are frequently open, but if you really want to watch them, you gotta choke up the five bucks.  It's not that much really, just skip lunch one day a month haha

Also, due to a lack of response of any kind, I take it nobody's interested in all those 150 or so new stations I found I mentioned a couple of posts back?

Any chance of an update with all the new stations? I am very interested, As im sure their are others too who simply missed your post.

Well I never tackled trying to add all those stations because pretty much nobody seemed interested, and since it's a subscriber thing, you'd have to pay for it, even though the cost is minimal.  Is anybody else here interested?? SPEAK NOW!

I may just be too tired right now to comprehend normal english, but what do you mean by that?  oh wait....i think i see.  The ess.tv ones work sometimes when you're not a subscriber, but i think these other stations don't allow non subscribers into any but 4 or 5 stations.

About the icons, most of the icons throughout the pack I just found on google or where and modified to fit...for the ess.tv ones, I did some of them, but most of them I got from www.chokemaniac.net.  Go to the download section and there's a link to download a pack of the icons and also there's a link to the thread where you can find ones that have been posted since they last updated the download.  You have to register to be able to view the pictures, though.  I believe the download includes the template which allows you to make your own if you have any skill with photoshop.

Wasn't ess.tv shut down recently?

We should probably remove it from the stream pack to avoid confusion.

Collect FREE tv streams, post about it on x-s and have people sign up on your site to get it?

X-S isnt here to help you get members to your board/site.

If you REALLY wanted to help out the scene then the package would have been posted for free, and from the start.

Got a problem with the thread being closed then take it up with HSDemonz and please include the link to the thread and this post in the pm to him.
