Sounds like the HDD may have been corrupted.....I dont know of any way to retrieve data that was lost due to corruption.

Hi sorry to necro a kinda old post but what you need is Hirens boot cd grab it off of a torrent site and run it thru daemon tools there is a program in there that can recover corrupted /deleted data off of you hdd I have used many times and it ork wonderfully but I will depepnding the amount of data it can eat up a full day to recover said data I will try and get you more details once I find it on my hdds
