Ok, here is a general rant... please, take the creation of polls power away from the general user in gamers chat! There are currently 3 polls for which game do you think is better Madden or ESPN football! Are you kidding me?
How many useless polls about Halo 2 have been created? Do I think Halo 2 will be released early? Wha? Is that a worthy poll? What's the best XBox RPG? Huh? There are RPG's in that list that aren't even released! There are nearly more polls then threads on that first page right now.
It bugs the hell out of me, but what is the point of complaining if you don't have a suggestion? I'd suggest making a child-forum under gamers chat called 'gamers polls' or something like that, then the people who think it is their duty to create useless polls can go in there and create them to their hearts content, then those who want to actually chat about games can stay in the main forum.

I think polls in general when left to newbs invariably end up being stupid
i think only forum moderators should have the ability to create one- i mean what is the point of the "what do you think is the best dash" in the avalaunch forum as well?

I think newbie chat shouldn't have anything to do with polls. Honestly I think mods should be the only ones allowed to make polls also.

roar, you read my mind. I was just thinking about that this morning as I plodded through Gamers Chat.
In general I don't really see the need for polls in a technical forum. The only useful polls I've ever seen were created by Head Mods and Admins. I remember one a while back that polled what recording software people use, for example.
I'd have no problem with a poll if it addressed a specific issue but for the most part it seems like polls are just created by people who are bored and want to ask a general question. Gamers Chat has become inundated with polls as of late.
Even if only the "Halo 2" and "How big is your HDD?" polls were removed that would probably eliminate 50% of the polls on these forums. ;)

I just don't click on them. That's my easy solution.
Well, unless they're asking which LED color I think is the coolest...dude...I like....totally have to answer that one.

Polls are annoying. They lead to the creation of tons of useless topics. "What will be better, Halo 2 or Half-life 2", "Should I wear a yellow shirt today if its a tuesday?", "Should I hogtie myself and roll off a cliff?" The only one I would respond to is the last saying DEFINITELY if it will lead to the creation of less stupid polls. Usually polls involve things that DONT MATTER AT ALL. Game A and Game B will BOTH BE AWESOME. I think polls should either be placed in a separate section (where I wont have to see them) or only mods will be able to create them. Yes, I could just not vote on those polls, but I dont like seeing them at all.

I'd like to throw in my opinion on removing polls as well. I agree that they should be limited to being posted by moderators only, which will probably mean that polls will not be posted at all since mods usually don't post polls. :D
Alternatively, if that isn't an option, then limit it to certain forums only. Specifically, remove them as an option from the Newbie forum. You can keep them in the other more advanced forums.
Another option is that moderators should be more strict on deciding when to close poll posts. Make a sticky stating the poll restrictions and closure rules that are dependent upon mods approval. If the mods think they don't like a poll because it is stupid, just close it early and often before it gets out of hand.
My most hated polls are those that ask which games are better...and 2/3 of them aren't even released yet!

These polls and such piss me off too, as to the Xbox 2 forums (which I avoid for the same reason) because it's full of useless speculation and polls. I remember I got a topic of mine locked when I asked if the Xbox 2 could wipe my ass. Yet a topic like "Do you think Halo 3 will kick ass on the Xbox 2" is allowed. Nobodys fault, but I think a lot of the bandwidth on the site is wasted on useless stuff, including polls.

agreed. polls are unnecessary. In the rare occasion that it is useful, a simple post asking for replies should be just as effective, but a bit more tedious. Having polls so easy to create lead to its abuse.

it could just be me, but i think the gamers chat and the dump have some of the worst topics and polls on the scene. It saddens my heart when i want to go and talk about a new game, and i get overwhelmed with "i'm not going to school the day halo2 comes out" poll, or "halo2 vs halo1" i just get so angry, now there have been a couple polls which were decent enough such as, "what size tv?" "xbox vs ps2". I don't want to even start with the dump, theres just too much crap in there.
In the future maybe we could make the polls have to get mod approval or somthing.

Mabey we need a poll to ask if polls should be removed from the forums.........
Really though I don't even enter posts that have polls in them. I see that someone started a poll in this forum too.
