I have been told that it is possible, but I have yet to make it work.

Find the person who told you they could do it.  Have them show you the setup.  Its all BS.

But cant you stream mp3 and video from your pc threw your xbox?
Games are basically designed touse all 64MB of ram, so you can't run anything beside it (stream client). XBMC etc are basically multitasking environments so you can do tons at once (bittorrent, watch a movie, file management all at once), but when you load a game from that (or any other dash) the dash is overwritten in memory.  The difference is similar to that of a dos window and restarting in dos mode.  Perhaps in the future it may be possible with a ram upgrade, but right now it would probably take a team of engineers to pull it off.
