Title: Krayzie Ndure Installer
Post by: krayzie on July 31, 2005, 03:34:00 PM
I've kind of finished my new installer. It just needs some final touches and a nicely descriptive readme and then it goes out for beta testing.

The features are: (compared to UXE 2.8)

-Ndure Exploit
-hidden shadowC
-hidden shadow eeprom
-5 multiboot options (dual and tri boot)
-fonts tweaking (for those rare problematic xboxes)
-restore options from HD backup ór resque disc
-resque disc setup
-improved stability and notifications
-updated unleash X dash
-cut down on size (for those nasty not 8 mb AR cards)
-VGA SoG and Progressive option
-alternative bootorder (when dashboard is removed. Includes hidded resquedash on actual C)

If anyone has sugestions/ideas now might be the time to make them....

I can/will not give dates of the final release but it shouldn't take too long.

Props to anyone who feels like he/she deserves it.

Edit: Added VGA and bootorder features

Hey Krayzie.

I've been using your UXE for ages now and I have a simple question.   Do you think people using your UXE exploit should consider changing to this one when done, and if so, will it still be as easy to install?

Thanks in advance.

p.s. thanks for the font issue help  biggrin.gif

Well it offers a few improvements. Especially if you use live. It will be just as easy (if not easier). If you feel content with what you're using you could stick with that though.

All exploit files are on C (since they are hidden) On E are backups for the eeprom and C drive which can optionally be deleted. The dashboard is also on E for easy replacement.

Could it be setup to use F for all the extra files.  I love your UXE installer, but the only thing I don't like is that I can't fit Halo 2 with the map packs on E wih the virtual C file and my dashboard on it too.  It isn't the end of the world, I just like not having to put my H2 disc in if it is possible.  It seems like the F drive is better suited for the extra files.

Beta testing phase started. I'm still in need for MA and SC-NTSC users. You only qualify for tester if you are certain of yourself that you can recover easy. You don't qualify if you are unknown around here or are at a somewhat beginner stage.

Or you could set a dual retail multiboot so you boot to a live safe msdash with the eject button.

is there a xbe that patches back the public key and runs (ms)xboxdash.xbe
so the bios is XBL safe ?
or is it done some other way

Good job Krayzie, it's working great on my v1.0 5960 dash 4034 kernel.  I used the MA installer and it worked like a charm.  Just need an updated readme with more instructions on multiboot ( the best feature of ndure ).  I'll try and make one or make a tutorial when I get the chance.

Edit:  Found something weird.  After I had set up a dual boot (retail on eject) I went to check my network settings.  When I hit A on this, the revolving green circle at the bottom (loading) is there for only a few seconds and then the screen goes black.  ??

Ah ha! That was it Krayzie!  Man, you're smart!  So, even though I can't change network settings, if they are correct, I will still be able to go onto Xbox Live and everything?  Also, I switched the mod off and it allowed me to change the network settings.  So, there might be something to add to the readme in the sentence where you say to do Live Accounts before you install the softmod.  ( just make sure their network settings are correct as well ) < or else a lot of people would have to switch off and on which nobody likes  Thanks man.

If DHCP the IP is Determined by the MAC & The DHCP Server.

If Static the IP is determined by the dashboard loading the setting.

With an Ndure "retail" install, put the full retail 185ead00 in the virtual C and change its Network Settings.  Then deactivate Ndure and take a look at the retail dash's Network Settings...

(I'd expect this works for other softmods with an equivalent virtual setup too, but I haven't confirmed that.)

Also if you set the network to your likings in an unmodded state and load up the gamesave it will be set to the parameters of that dashboard and the previous settings in the msdash are gone. So if you wanna make sure you can connect to live through coldbooting or via the retail dualboot option just set the network to your likings in the gamesave installer (at that point virtual eeprom is off).
It is defaulted to dhcp so it will be good for most users allready.

krayzie, I don't see how that pertains to what I posted; hopefully this will help:

Install Ndure with the Eject button being the retail dash and the Power button being the virtualized softmod.  (If your installer can't do that, use kingroach's.)

Install the full 5960 (rel.185ead00) in the virtual C, launch that MS dash, do Settings -> Network Settings, change them and exit normally.

Deactivate Ndure, shutdown, power-up and look at the network settings in the retail MS dashboard...

Dude that's what I've been doing for the past 20 minutes. In every kind of way continually coming to the conclusion that setting the network with an active virtual eeprom has no effect on the network settings in a retail state. Are you sure you have a virtual eeprom installed and it's actually active?
Title: Krayzie Ndure Installer
Post by: Ndure protagonist on August 06, 2005, 06:21:00 PM
krayzie, I've tested and confirmed it with virtual eeprom write both enabled and disabled.

You indicated you used unleashX to change the settings (not the virtual MS dash).  Have you tried the exact steps I just posted?

Title: Krayzie Ndure Installer
Post by: krayzie on August 06, 2005, 06:58:00 PM
OK solved the mystery. When turning off all network functions in UX (both dashboard and gamesave installer) your method works. Also network settings stay the same wether virtual eeprom is active or not

Conclusion:

For your method you need to turn off all UX network settings since they will overide any previous (msdash) settings.

Or keep your UX networks active and just set them to your likings and there will be no need to configure your network settings in the msdash.

krayzie, you've maybe forgotten why I posted that recent discovery here ... Textbook asked about changing the retail MS dashboard's network settings (after the install had been performed).

You replied "You'd have to switch the softmod off to set stuff like that."; now you and others know there seems to be another way to do it...

well allmighty and allknowing teacher. I recall you replied that he could easily set it in the virtual msdash and I later said setting it in the gamesave installer would do also. Now since setting it in the virtual msdash has no effect when the UX networks is enabled I wonder if you always give all that great advices.
I'm sorry for my unawareness on the msdash network part. Since I don't use live I never had any business going there. I do however consider this a usefull lesson and I'm thankfull for your all so loving support.

Post by: Textbook on August 06, 2005, 08:05:00 PM
biggrin.gif  Anyways, it's a great installer, but I have a question.  At what point does ndure actually check to see the tray's status.  Because I know that if you hit eject and let it come out a little bit and hit eject again real quick, it will still boot modded.  But if you hit eject and leave the tray out until the dash loads, it will boot to retail.   I'm guessing this has to do with the tray's position right after the BIOS has loaded (right when the MS logo appears.  Please correct me if I'm wrong.  Plus, it could be one more thing to add to the README.

In order to do a retail boot , the tray must be left open until the retail dash loads.

So, all the fighting (learning) over the network settings thing got me a little confused.  I know you change it in UnleashX.  But do I change the settings in the gamesave exploit before I hit Install Softmod , or do I change them after everything is installed (before  dual boot) the first time it loads to UnleashX after it is completely softmodded.
Title: Krayzie Ndure Installer
Post by: krayzie on August 07, 2005, 09:09:00 AM
you can change them at any point. When Unleash X (or another dash) loads it simply removes all previous network settings and fills in the one provided in the xml (set in the settings menu would do also). So you have to make sure all the stages that load up a dashboard with enabled dashboard ftp servers you come across are adjusted to your likings. So basically everytime you come across a dashboard  make sure it is set your likings or disable the network.

Dude you rule , I actually reflashed my tsop  stock and reinstalled my stock dash just to go on live tonight with your installer .

Everything worked great , along with the dualboot . I am using the MA exploit with a v1.0  4034 .

One suggestion I would love to see in the final release is an automatic retail / mod , dualboot install . Instead of having it in extras . lets not kid ourselves everyone using this can't lose with that automatically installing .

One question though , I think I understand how it works now , but I just want to be sure .
When you hit the eject button a file is patched and your xbox boots in a completely stock state . And if so then you can boot a game from the stock dash and should be going on live in a stock condition . Just want to make sure before I stop coldbooting .
