OK, well I set up the shadow C just fine, but my problem is when I go to run the MS Dash, the green cell wall anim. comes up for a split second then jumps to the error 21 screen... what gives? all the files are there and everything! <

you still need c:\fonts\dashboard\*.* (including folders like skin) if you are still using the nkpatcher from c-complete
because nkpatcher on the real c: looks to the virtual c: (if it finds one in the correct path) for the dashboard <

did you use *your* backup of msdash or one from a boot cd or similar? maybe the dash is too old for your 1.6 <

This sounds very similar to my problem (that I posted in this forum last night).
I checked all of the files on my c: drive - the only one I'm missing is in the root dir and is called:
4,191,816 settings_adoc.xip
I don't have that file on my drive or in my backup.
When I tried to get back to my unmodded state (so that I could boot the MSDash) - I first used the one on my e: drive and when that didn't work (error 21), I used the one from my backup CD (still error 21).
It doesn't look like my shadowc ever actually started working - I see no difference, except for the shadowc dir and file on e:
Could the extra stuff on e: cause me any issues? I did mess with the file ST.DB earlier - but I put it back to the original. I had booted fine into the MSDash a few hours earlier - so I was pretty sure my backup was working OK.
Thanks <

robthegob.. are you sure that the virtualc is not in operation ? try deleting e:\shadowc\shadowc.img.. if you cannot then your c: drive is the virtual drive and that is why you cannot get back to original state.. ie the real c: is hidden.
you will need to boot a pbl to access the real c and also to delete the virtualc.img <

Thanks for the reply.
Just as you were typing - I was looking more closely at the shadowc file. I did notice that I couldn't rename it or delete it - but I thought that since I was able to actually see it - that it wasn't in use.
So I booted from an exploitable game - I went in with ftp and was able to rename the file. I rebooted and restored to unmodded - it worked!
Thanks a lot. <

Well I'm not sure if it is corrupt because i used the same files to make a stock drive and that drive works just fine. it might be because i transfored the files from a CD directly to FTP (w/o copying to my PC's HDD first). So i'll try it again that way. <
