Title: Porting Emule To Xbox
Post by: masterslave on October 15, 2003, 07:24:00 PM
i was wondering whether anyone thought about doing that and how difficult is it...
logically, it should be possible as emule i think is written in c++ .net so it should
be possible to port it without TOO much hassle... it would be a great app, so any
info appreciated!

Um, first of all, why would ANYONE need this, second of all, it would NOT be an easy thing.  Check out the internet browser threads, that's actually kind of useful but it still probably won't get done because You'd have to port the GUI part of it to D3D (not an easy task).

i don't agree with you, why would anyone need this - i mean, you can rip dvds and audio cds using your pc so why have dvd2xbox? but dvd2xbox is a great app for all of us who feel comfortable doing it on the xbox, same goes for emule, for example, i've got a 120 gig hard on the xbox and emule on it would be a dream...

You obviously didn't ask very many people then. The most likely reason people said no is because of the pointless-ness.

gui can be anything as long as you could download the files    ;)
a good model could be a client without gui like many linux apps
and then people could create their own gui on top of the client,
that would show how many people are interested in emule on
xbox   :D   what do you guys think about that?

I see it as pointless due to the fact we have this perfectly good multitasking machine which can run eMule or similar as well as other applications called the PC.

I'm sure even if it was ported the majority of users would just leech and as soon as they have their files shut it down so they can use their Xbox therefore not helping the p2p community at all.

Is it so hard to connect to Xbins if you want some homebrew?

I would definatly use emule on my xbox!!!

The gui doenst matter at all.. make it look as crap as you want i will still be using it... Emule isnt the sort of programe you care for the gui with, 95% of the time you will either be running it in the back ground or have the screen saver up because your asleep while its running..
