YEAH DVDX2 IS HELLA DOPE. ITS EASY FOR THE USERS WHO DONT KNO HOW TO RIP GAMES TO THEIR HDD AND ITS KEWL FOR EXPERIENCED PPL "BOXPLORER IS SUCH A PAIN IN THE ASS" BUT IM NOT SURE IF YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO DO THIS IN THE FUTURE. DONT FLAME ME PPL BUT I THINK CD BURNING SUPPORT WOULD BE HELLA COOL "FOR THOSE TIMES I TAKE MY XBOX TO A FRIENDS AND THEY WANT A COPY OF A CD I HAVE OR SOME MUSIC OFF MAH XBOX" CAN IT BE DONE BY PROGRAMMING THE XBE AND PUTTING IN A CD BURNER REPLACING THE DVDROM "HAVE IND BIOS 5003" OR DOES IT HAVE TO BE LOWER LEVEL INSIDE THE BIOS. IM NOT SURE BUT I THINK IT WOULD BE USEFUL AND SOMEONE SAID THAT I CAN DO IT IN LINUX BUT SHIT I DONT KNO LINUX WHATSOEVER SO I THOUGHT ITD BE COOL TO DO WITH A XBOX "IMAGE TO CD, MP3 TO CD AND WMA SUPPORT TO CD". SOMETHIN ID LIKE TO SEE. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ON DVD2XBOX. ONE OF THE MOST USEFUL TOOLS ON THE NET!

Hi,

First, this tools kick-ass smile.gif

Thanks  rolleyes.gif

And now go with features requests:

* allow to store CD informations (ISRC CD Number/Tracks Number/etc.) for future use of CDDB/FreeDB when ripping offline,

Thought of that too but why should it be implemented in a ripper programm ? Do you rip the same cd twice ? :-)
QUOTE

* encoding codec not to only ogg (perhaps using codecs like does XBMP and let the user choose one o them),

Planned to use mp3 but not implemented due to no demand. You're the first to ask.
QUOTE

* encoding video should be great but xb cpu cant really handle this kind of features so do whatever u want...

It's not only the encoding. The rest is also difficult (for me) to implement (demuxer, decoder, encoder, muxer).  Mplayer has most of the needed sources but no documentation.
QUOTE

* IMDB support with XBMP thumbails auto filling,

again, it's a ripper where should it make sense ? for the ripper or for the browser mode ?

Thanks rolleyes.gif

one more thing, could you use the mediaplayer config file!
Not sure, I was just thinking out loud..

Could think of that but dvd2xbox uses a simple XML parser and I'm not sure if it could handle it. If not I'll have to find a new simple one and integrate it. Let's see ...
QUOTE

Also, you read audio CD's!!
I thought this was hard to do as nobody has made a audio CD player yet..

The cdripxlib was primary done by me for the XBMP.  But as XBMP has not much space in memory left only the ripping part was used. It was only a simple step to integrate the rest in dvd2xbox  beerchug.gif

wink.gif. I use it on my DiVX/Xvid movies.
Reguardless, you should just use the one you like best. Besides, LAME is also a good MP3 codec. And since you ported it already, it's a perfect candidate! wink.gif LAME is better for variable bitrates anyways (although I prefer constant bitrates).

It would be great to see a 'percentage copied' meter when backing up games/etc. I hate staring at the screen (with all the files whizzing past) and not knowing relatively how much longer it will be.

Currently I'am reprogramming parts of the app to get rid of older xbcopy sources. How should the file copy mode be displayed ? Only the file currently copied with the percent display ? Any other suggestions ?
But don't expect to many design changes in the next release because the browser mode has higher priority (iso9660 etc).

how about a automatic directory rename?

e.g. like when copying a game it gets the name from the default file,

I think this would be good for those that used boxplorer.

also be able to goto to the browser when in dvd/cd copy mode so we can free up so space.

just a couple of thoughts.

i would like to see a feature in dvd2xbox is "CD to Bin/cue or ISO" feature for the PCSXbox Emu and some the other emus that use cd burn images. I been wanting to try PCSXbox but I think its a little tetious to go to your cpu, copy a game, transfer it, play to see if it works with emu then decide to keep or not depending on if it worked and all.

Thank you very much for this program.  I don't know what I would do without it.  As far as new feature go here is what I would like to see.

I would like to see a status bar or something of that sort.  Maybe just something simple of percent complete.  Mainly one for progress of entire rip, but file by file would work too.  And if possible a estimated time till complete.  I know this was said before but it would be very nice to have.

If we could choose the name of the game.  Something to give you the name as it would normally appear in evox but let you edit it if you want.

Keep up the great work on the file manager section!

Always in your debt

Is it possible to make the patch searcher search more than twice,

can you make it search the whole file?

PugNIP.

The whole file is scanned for the long string and second for the short string. if one is found it ends searching thats because the string isn't a 'real' media check it's more like a 'if...then' statement (thanks to Xeero). It could cause problems when replacing all occurence (when any).

1. Rip to Mp3...i just prefer mp3's.

Maybe if I have more time after the reprogramming.

QUOTE (chilin_dude @ Sep 28 2003, 06:08 PM)

2. Rip dvd's to xvid or some codec... i feel this would be one of the best progs invented for the xbox because at the moment i can never be bothered leaving my pc to rip a dvd to xvid for like 5 hours. However i would happily leave my xbox alone for 10 hours to wait for it to encode it...

As mentioned in other posts this is really hard to do. It's not as easy as it may sound. You only mentioned the video codec but you need several other sources like demuxer, decoder for video/audio, encoder for video/audio and at last the demuxer. I had a look at this issue but give up for the time being.

biggrin.gif .

I don't understand the need for the black background in the copy part as the text not in the black bit (Free Space) is perfectly readable and looks nicer

But I still find the explorer part to be a little bit unusable and much prefer the way the keys and commands are set out in boXplorer.  So my request is instead of having buttons for everything have a button for select and then a button for a menu with delete, copy, move, rename, Media check patch, etc etc . It would make it much easier to use. You could even have menu options for "Switch to Explorer Mode" "Switch to DVD Copy mode"

Just my thoughts hope there any good

Obscure bug in dvd2xbox 0.4.6 and above?

When 0.4.6 came out I grabbed Amped (PAL, shouldn't matter tho) off my shelf to try out the new copy module with progress bars. At first it didn't even start copying because of the bug addressed in 0.4.7, so I changed the rip dirs to exclude the trailing slash and tried again. This time it started copying, but when it reached the file:

//Music//Pretending Life Is Wonderful.wma

it froze! I shrugged this off as being something to do with the bug. Anyway, as soon as I got 0.4.7 I put it on and decided to try Amped again. Guess what... it freezes on the same file.

I have previously, using 0.4.4, backed up Amped successfully...

I was unable to find anything of interest in the log file, only the files that had been copied successfully.

Any ideas? I hope this helps...

Edit: The only thing I could think of that would cause an error such as this would be a scratch on the disc so I checked it but it seems to be in fairly good condition. Anyway, I tried copying that one file with a number of other programs (boXplorer, FlashFXP, ...) and they all copied it with no problems.

Was it possible to copy the file via the disc browser ?
I try to find out if its a real copy issue (disk browser and main copy module using the same source) or
did I missed some memory allocation during the whole copy (some buffer runs full).
Does this disk contain any special files or a high amount of files ?
I try to get the game to test it by myself.
Thanks.

Great job with the 0.4.8, seems to work fine.

The copy process seems a little slower, but maybe that's because of the bugfix.  Or is the percentage thingy slowing it down a little?  If it is, then perhaps you could just show the overall percentage, and just leave the progress bar for the individual files.  Or maybe have a setting in the .xml file to turn on/off the percentage display.

Personally, I'd prefer not to sacrifice speed for the sake of seeing the percentage, I was quite happy with just the progress bars (it's easy enough to estimate the percentage from them smile.gif )  But then again, maybe the speed decrease has nothing to do with the percentage displays, and I'm just rambling on pointlessly...

DZV, ya i also noticed it slower a bit.. but now rock solid and stable.. which i would prefer..
maybe too fast is not good somtimes.. which might of caused the lockups in 046-047?

Just wanted to add an update to the speed problem.  It seems it might not be a problem with DVD2Xbox.  I still have some more testing to do, but here's what I've found:

When I was ripping the game using 0.4.4 to 0.4.7 I was ripping to the E: drive.  When I reported the speed decrease in 0.4.8 I was ripping to the F: drive.  Now, I just tried ripping to the E: drive with 0.4.8 and the speed was nice and fast again.

I've noticed this problem before when FTPing to an Xbox...  transferring to E: was faster than transferring to F:  This is using a 10G Seagate (Xbox OEM) that has been formatted to use the extra 2g as the F: drive.  I don't think this problem exists with larger drives, but I'm about to plug in an 80g or 120g drive and see what the copy speeds are like.  I'll post back with results.

NightL1fe, were you ripping to E or F when you noticed the speed difference?

You need a CD-R capable DVD drive to read burned CDs. Try original CDDAs. If they work your drive may not support CD-R.

Yeah I'm sorry.  I tested them on 0.4.8. I had no problems copying games & audio CDs - it only gave me problems when I tried to copy data CD's like the ones described below - with only a movie in AVI format and in some cases an SRT file.

I found a small problem with CD-A copying...

I have a CD where CDDB provides tags in the following pattern:

Album name: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Artist name: yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Track names:

yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - track 1. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - track 2. bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - track 3. cccccccccccccccccccccc
etc...

The trouble is, as you can guess, because the tack names are so long, they get truncated, and that happens before the unique part of the name - so I copy a whole album, only to find that only the last track exists (each successive track overwrites the one before it).  Each track has been named:

yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - tra.ogg

Yeah I'm sorry.  I tested them on 0.4.8. I had no problems copying games & audio CDs - it only gave me problems when I tried to copy data CD's like the ones described below - with only a movie in AVI format and in some cases an SRT file.

Finally got this reproduced and it's fixed in the next release.
Use meanwhile the disk browser to copy this files.

I think you wrote a great piece of Software,

there´s only one little problem:

I can´t use the software because i replaced my original xbox drive
with an 616Q-Modell.

I can play all my files whether on DVD or CD in the XBMP but i can not
copy any files with dvd2xbox.

If you have a tip or an idea how to fix this problem i´ll be very grateful

Feature Request/Suggestion:
DVD-ripper, one click DVD-Transcoder (DVD to Harddrive in DivX/XviD), devs should probebely should check out ReJig. ReJig (link)  is a Windows GUI based MPEG-2 transcoding utility using compressed domain transcoding (as used in other one click tools). It is pretty fast and it's the first open source implementation available on the Windows platform, (and it is coded in C++).

General Suggestion:
Now that DVD2XBOX is more mature how about moving it to a open source project on sourceForge?

yo -- i just modded my buddy's xbox and he's pretty computer illiterate...  dvd2xbox is by far the easiest way for him to rip his games to his HD...  he can now rip and rip all day, but eventually he'll run out of disc space.  teaching him boxplorer is not working.  i was wondering if there could be a DELETE feature implimented, that would search f:games, or whatever directory, for default.xbe files, then give the option to delete whatever game he wanted.  this feature would also include the game sizes.

so it would be a list of all the games on f drive plus their sizes, and a quick delete function...  obviously there would be an "are u sure" type of warning before the file is deleted.

the program is already sort of on that track, since it shows the size of the dvd and the available space on each drive.  but if the space available is not enough, then the user has to get out of the program and go to another for deletion and then go back to dvd2xbox for ripping.  just a suggestion, but i think it will help make this program complete.  great program so far!

Thats not true.
Start dvd2xbox, press B, select the drive you want to explore, navigate to the folder you would like to delete and press X.
The only thing what's missing is the display of the folder size.

I agree with the suggestion that jigga3stix made.  To me, the only things that DVD2Xbox are missing:

1.  An easy way to delete games/videos/cds without using the HDD browser.  Something similar to Px HDD Loader which shows a list of games on HDD, and you just press a button to delete.  Listing the disk usage of each game/video/cd would also be ideal.  This would make it very easy for people who are 'computer illiterate' to manage their games etc.

2.  One-click DVD rip and encode to DivX.  However, I realise this is a very big task, and according to many people it is not possible on the Xbox.

Yup that would be Awsome to have the gamelist you downloaded into your F/E/G drives and showup in a list you can select to delete or launch (simliar to pxloader)

People who are 'computer illiterate' have no business with a modded XBOX!

That's a very elitist view, and one which I definitely don't agree with.  You seem to forget that the Xbox is a gaming console, and not everybody wants a modded Xbox for Linux, Media Player, or whatever.  A lot of people simply want a modded Xbox with a larger HDD so they can store all their games on their HDD and play them conveniently.  I see no reason why these people should be considered 'not good enough' to own a modded Xbox.

The ability to easily manage games on the HDD would be a great feature, and one of the few features that I believe DVD2Xbox is missing.

But,if one does not even understand basic file management, then they should not be running around making backups of Xbox games.
The more you understand about something the more you can enjoy it.

How much easier than deleting the folder named the name of the game?

I just want to fly my own jet plane to the mall, why dont they make them with just one button and a steering wheel?

Well, I might be just a tad bitter because I modded a few Xboxes for "computer illiterates".
I keep getting calls about something or other  that they screwed up. One guy even started randomly deleting files off his C: drive because he thought it would fix a problem he was having with a backup!

That's exactly the reason why I think it would be a great feature!  I, too, have had several clients pester me to no end because they don't know how to accomplish even the most simple (to me) tasks.  What I'm arguing is that the more user-friendly programs like DVD2Xbox can become, the fewer of these calls we'll get  beerchug.gif

I'm not suggesting this feature for my own use, as I'm fully capable of managing my files in several different ways.  smile.gif

Ok, I'll think of a solution. We've to narrow where dvd2xbox should search for applications. I'll suggest the dumpdirs only with no recursive search. I dunno how long it takes to scan the size of all dirs so this could take time. what about other folders ? Should they be handled seperately ? Give me some wishes :-)

... feasible. I mean how long would it take to scan 50 directories? ...

i haven't timed it, but from recent (although weeded) memory, it takes boxplorer around a half a minute to scan my 60+ directories on the f drive, which is about 98 gigs big right now...  maybe to make this process faster, the program could scan any 'new' directories and store them in an .ini file or whatever... and if the user thinks that this directory size has changed since last update, they can maybe click on that directory for refreshing.  the first time it's accessed would take the whole 30 seconds but after that should only take 3-4 seconds max each time to update (add new directories and remove ones that no longer exist).

what do u all think?

I'd like to be able to specify the name of the folder a game or audio CD will be copied to. Auto-detecting from the .XBE should be kept, but let us then edit that if desired. Also for music it's handy if you do a few discs at a time and don't want to lose track of what's what.

The option for Dvd2Xbox to delete the Dashupdate.xbe and Downloader.xbe at the end of the copy (or maybe an option in the xml file).

There is no point in having these files if you are playing a backed copy of your game off the hard drive bacuse you cannot go on live w/o a retail BIOS.

I always remove these xbe files so I (or someone else) does not access them in the game.

So they're not needed and safe to remove? I don't plan on ever using my modded XBOX to [try to] access Live...

You have two options:

2) enable the network. CDDA rips get then the name stored in the freedb.

This Tool desparatly needs a MOVE feature rather than just COPY. With the Drop down menu, it is 1 step away from replacing XCOPY for me.

Oh ya, a verify choice window would be a nice touch too, so you don't mistakenly delete stuff

Edit: Oh and a way to see how much space files and folders are taking on the hard drive would be nice! .

But I try to do my best to get work on all systems. If there is an issue which is related to a specific group (like the 11mb issue) it's alot easier to find a workaround.

Supplemental: Right now I'm the only one who develops on dvd2xbox. It would be great if there are other DEVs with other system/dash/bios combination who could help me with the stuff.  rolleyes.gif

Thanks for the reply, I fully appreciate the work involved in making this application.  I don't know much about programming Xbox Apps so I don't know how easy it would be to pin point bugs but I do understand how different apps and games can be affected by different bioses and dashes, so I can see your problem.

Thanks for the great app, it does its job well and my opinion is that adding all sorts of features to it, such as on the fly video encoding and whatever else has been requested is pointless.  If you want to do that sort of stuff do it on your PC.  You can't rip Xbox games on your PC which is why this app is needed and what it is good at.

Thanks,

Richy
