Title: Can't Softmod...
Post by: Kai920 on February 28, 2005, 10:15:00 AM
Ugh, I hope this can be fixed...

I used Slayer's 2.6 on my softmodded box, formatted the C: drive and "restored" the original Msdash to it, because I wanted to install Blackwar's.  Problem is, now it will *not* not read my MechAssualt disc (NTSC-J), and thus I cannot load Blackwar's installer, which is already on my E: drive.  It gives me the message "Invalid Game Region" :(

Any solutions?  Am I screwed? :uhh:

let me guess, you are using the UDE2 and changed the xbe region on your xbox.

1) use newer exploits.

2) don't use slayers on a softmodded xbox, especially stuff relating to the C drive.

you will have to reinstall the exploit without the exploitable game, either unlock the drive or hotswap, then reinstall.

Use xboxhdm to put a basic uxe setup on your hdd..  Then run an installer manually and correct the stock C: files on the shadowc after installation..

Sorry, no idea what was used. How do I find out?

Can you give some suggestions?

Too late now unfortunately... i had been doing a bit of reading around x-s and it seemed slayers was ideal for reverting a C: back to its original state. guess i forgot about the region bit...

Looks like my only option is to take the HD out?

you don't need an installer, just assemble the necessary exploit files and copy them over in xboxhdm.

true... once I hook it up with xboxhdm I can just copy the stuff 'assembled' onto C: yeah?  guess the hard part is figuring what files to be 'assembled'.. e.g. blackwar's installer..

thanx, i'll get uxe-complete as well from the usual places.

the eeprom is something that I DO have.   got a copy on CD and couple copies on my hard drive.. B)

OK I got UXE Complete 0.2.1... I read the readme and know that I have to run the two batch files, etc.  Then I am going to copy everything inside "UXE-C-REPLACE" onto my xbox's C drive.

But before I do that, when I boot up xboxhdm I'm going to have only the xbox hd connected, right?  Can I put the package onto the CD iso (xboxhdm) as well, otherwise I don't know how I would transfer it over...

btw, there's NO WAY to fix this without opening up the box?  unsure.gif

OK, I read through most of the xboxhdm for dummies thread (which absolutely rocks btw) and I'm ready to try building a spare 20gig I have here at work.

I still want to revert C: to STOCK, but since I bought my xbox pre-softmodded, the only backup of C I have is when it was in a modded state.  Where can I find stock C files that fit my xbox's region?

Post by: total_ass on March 02, 2005, 01:32:00 AM
just use the files from uxe-complete, this is a full modded C drive.

you cannot build a new hard drive without a copy of your eeprom.

Use xboxhdm to install the exploit, works faster then any gamesave installer IMHO.
That way u can erase all data on it (or just the stuff on C, preserving the gamesave exploit).

(The non-NTSC-J version of MA was the way to do that eh.)

(Now that you've UXE'd it, revert the box's eeprom to Region 2 if you want the NTSC-J MA to boot on it eh.)

Is ConfigMagic the recommended util to do this?
Title: Can't Softmod...
Post by: krayzie on March 02, 2005, 11:50:00 AM
to change the region with configmagic (by memory)

-unlock hd
-edit eeprom on the fly
-change region number
-update eeprom
-load eeprom
-lock hd

I was talking about my OTHER goal (to be able to play Xbox Live by coldbooting)

Blackwar's installer seemed to be easiest, but I don't have a STOCK C: per se... I can access the msdash by a via the menu option in Evo dash.

So either I restore my xbox completely to stock (which I haven't figured out so far), or manually install and upgrade apps to achieve my goal...

If you already have your account setup you don't even need a stock C to coldboot for live..  Thats the whole concept of coldbooting..

@Kai920: you've been doing remarkably well - your situation is rare as is your desire to be part of the solution.  Also, the patience you have is amazing, which is good as I suspect it's about to be stretched even further...

Based on this thread and your subsequent posts it seems that, in addition to setting the region, you're also going to need to establish the (real C) retail dashboard and register for Live!  Consequently, my recommendation is:

(!) make sure you have a good backup of at least your shadowC and eeprom.bin on your PC
...
(i) set your region (to 2) so you can cold-boot your NTSC-J MA
(ii) install a simple MA gamesave exploit (which wouldn't use C at all)
(iii) confirm that the MA exploit works!
(iv) ftp the current (real) C to your PC
... hmm, I think that's all the necessary prep! ...
(v) replace the (real) C content with the entire shadowC dashboard (PC backup)
(vi) reboot and check that the Live tab (online dashboard) works, letting it update if it needs to
(vii) cold-boot TopSpin, register for live and enjoy smile.gif
... when enclined ...
(viii) cold-boot the MA exploit (and backup C to yor PC if live updated it)
(ix) re/install the/a UXE based exploit and confirm it works
(x) cold-boot TopSpin for live and confirm that it can still connect

Hopefully others will notice any mistakes I may have made and post accordingly eh...

I think he can't edit cuz maybe his nkpatcher is set to virtual eeprom but there is no eeprom file which results in a read only eeprom.

(Phew, that's great news kai920! So onward to step (ii) of the (x), provided that step (!)'s been done eh. wink.gif)

Good point; just put it in the game's save directory on E (and by "simple" I'm referring to a minimal, evox type of exploit) eh.

Post by: eh. on March 08, 2005, 11:16:00 AM
(Now you're in a retail-state, existing posts and/or Live forum assistance will almost certainly help you overcome that.  I've got to go now; good luck eh.)

Seems something went wrong somewhere. best things is to do now is sort of doing the same thing. Leave the fonts folder containin the retail fonts on C as well as the audio folder and delete anything else. then use a live enabled game to do the upgrade. make sure you use a new game if you have a new xbox.

I just deleted mostly everything and ftp my "original backup" onto the C drive.  I've since installed Blackwar's installer without a hitch.  Might even give yours a try as well (when I find it)  Thanks krayzie!
