Just trying to swap a bigger xbox HD in to a soft modded UDE1 Xbox. The drive is currently in my chipped Xbox. I was told by someone that for the HD to work in the softmodded Xbox I would have to lock it with the HD password from the UDE Xbox not the password on my chipped Xbox.
I am using Config Magic Final to try and lock the drive but all that lets me do is lock/unlock the drive with the current password, not let me change it to the softmodded one.
Is this info I was told correct or do I just lock the drive, then it will boot on the UDe Xbox once all the files are transfered from it.

a softmodded xbox will not boot an unlocked or improperly locked hd.
it must be locked with the password unique to its eeprom and hd serial combo.
it is beneficial to obtain the xbox's eeprom.bin before trying to upgrade its hd. as improperly locking the hard drive can become quite a pain.

Thanks for the reply but this doesn't answer the problem I am having.
I wanted to know how to change the password to Softmodded eprom key.
In config magic the lock function only allowed me to lock the drive with the password from my chipped xbox which it is installed in at the moment. I assumed I could edit the password to what I wanted then lock it.
Is the password shown in config magic taken from the eprom on my chipped xbox or from the larger hd installed?
I understand that the drive has to be locked to run on a softmoded xbox, just don't know how to change the password to what I want.
Is it possible to install the larger drive into the non chipped xbox, boot from an evox boot disk & lock the drive then, I guess not as the password won't match the one in the eprom.
cheers

put the hd in the chipped xbox, set ip up then use configmagic to edit eeprom on the fly.
Then change the hdkey to the one provided by the backup function from evox on the virgin xbox. You should use the bottom key: the xbox hd key. then lock it and the hd works on the virgin xbox.

Cheers Krayzie, that's the info I was looking for. Out of interest when you have changed the hd key to the virgin one will it still boot up in the chipped xbox?
-
it will boot in both the chipped xbox and the virgin one. if the hd that was in the chipped xbox was locked you will have to change the key back to get that to work. A workaround for that would be to first lock that hd with the new key also.

Sorry haven't actually been able to do this yet as I work away in the week.
So are you saying that I should be running Config magic from a PC as you mention setting the IP or have I misunderstood you. I was running config magic on the xbox!
How do I change the HD key back to my original xbox drive which at the moment is locked. I can't do that if the drive I have just locked for the UDE xbox is in the chipped box & the original won't boot anymore.
Sorry, getting abit confused now after thinking I knew what I was gonna do.
I suppose as you say it would be safer to unlock my original HD before changing the password on the bigger drive & then that would boot even if the password didn't match and then lock it with the original password again, right?
Is it not possible to run config magic on the UDE box & change the lock password on that to the same as my chipped xbox. Then the drive locked in the chipped one would match my password.

Hello,
I'm trying to do the same thing but with an uxe hack.
What"s the best way to retrieve eeprom.bin ?
thx

configmagic is an xbox app so it runs on the xbox. The safest way would be:
load config magic on the chipped xbox with it's own hd, Unlock hd, edit eeprom, put in new hd, set it up, lock new hd. This way the hd that was in the chipped xbox is still unlocked so it will run with the new hd key. After you put it back in you have the choice to first change the key back or just lock the hd with the new hdkey.
@hihan i wan't talkin about using the eeprom.bin. I was talking about using the xbox eeprom hdkey. The easiest way to get both the eeprom and the hdkey would be the evox backup feature.

thx krayzie, will look this way :)

Cheers Krayzie. Thanks for your patience.
I suppose another way would be if I had another largerHD to put in my chipped one that would be unlocked & I could change the eprom to my original key then the 8GB drive which is locked will still boot.
Crikey, I think I've got it.

if you change back the key to like it was it would ofcourse boot the other hd if it was locked with that eeprom. it's just a mather of matching values.

That's what a thought, just didn't want to mess up without getting things totally straight.
Thanks again

First off unlocked my original HD from the chiped xbox.
Now I have put the drive I wish to lock back in for the softmod xbox.
Ran config final, selected edit eprom on the fly!
This is where I get abit confused. I thought here I would be able to chang the HD password to the one on the softmod xbox & then lock the drive.
But when the options come up to edit the eprom I can only change the Unique HD Key not the HD password, the long one at the bottom.
Do I have to put in the unique HD key from the softmod xbox, then it lets me change the password.
Or have I got the unique hd key & password mixed up? Or should I have changed the key on my original hd to the softmoded one first, then put the new HD in?
Cheers

no with config magic you should edit the unique hd key yes. that would be the only hd key option you could edit. the password itself is set on the hd. When I said at the bottom I meant at the bottom of the evox backup file with all the listed hd keys. If you set the right hd key in the eeprom it then generates the right password for the hd.
-
the hd key needs to be the same. the password is different for each hd. it gets calculated out of the hdkey so you only need to edit the hdkey in the eeprom

Another solution is to use your computer and assume that you don't use 1.6 Eeprom. I heard liveinfo can't do that or you can use xboxhdm (search for that on this forum). There are better instruction than what I can give you.
Install Liveinfo
Copy the "backup" folder which has the eeprom of the softmoded xbox to your computer
Turn off computer.
Add your new/unlock hd to your computer
Turn on computer and Run Liveinfo and find your eeprom file which you just copied and select the hd you want to lock. It will generate the info you need to lock your hd. Write down the info.
Boot to Dos and use unlockx or hdlock programs to lock them. Tripple check the password/key you entered before pressing enter key. Insert into your softmoded xbox and play. All of those programs can be found on this site under software.
