Title: Xbmc As Dashboard - Boot Order
Post by: Bilbox on June 30, 2004, 03:17:00 AM
Want to change to XBMC as my dashboard with the option to exit out to EVOX (which I have been using up to now). With an Xecuter BIOS what should I rename my default.xbe(for XBMC) to so that it will boot before evoxdash.xbe?

Tell me I don't have to hack my BIOS to change the boot order.

ok, first off.....i would like to apologize if this is all ready posted somewhere.  I normally do not reply to forums to get help cause i usually find what im looking for. however, i have been looking for several days and now im to the point that i dont care anymore and im ready to get what i need.

im trying to make xbmc my dash and ive found all the info i need with copying the xbmc default.xbe and XboxMediaCenter.xml to my C:\ drive and editing the .xml file. now....when it comes to changing the name of my default.xbe to match the first .xbe file in my boot sequence, it seems like my C:\ directory is a bit different then how ppl are explaining it.  so, here is a list of my C:\ dir....

[  ] Audio
[  ] backup
[  ] f0nts
[  ] xboxdashdata.10027100
[  ] xodash
bert.xtf
dualboot.xbe
ernie.xtf
items.txt
s.xtf
settings_adoc.xip
xbmc.xbe
XBox Book.bak
Xbox.bak
xboxdash.bak
xboxdash.xbe
XboxMediaCenter.xml

This is of course after i have transferred the xbmc files, but the only .xbe files in here were the two green ones.

im using the latest version of evox (i think) My BIOS version is 4034 and my kernel is 1.00.4981.67

and just for the record, i have seen the boot sequences for the other bios's and just tried all the first .xbe file names to try and get it to work, but of course they didnt. if anyone has suggestions or knows of a forum that could explain this to me just post it. thanks to anyone that can help.

Look it ain't that hard....Basically there are numerous ways you can do it...Depends on how you wanna set it up!!!
First off your bios boot sequence can be changed to suit your requirements by renaming the order or names in EVTool or XBTool....
You could rename the default .xbe of XBMC to xboxdash and substitute the M$ dash .xbe for that, but you won't be able to use M$ dash....
Or just rename the xbmc .xbe to what ever the name is first on the boot sequence...

You actually have 3 xbe there     xboxdash
                                               xbmc
                                               dualboot

Still clear as MUD !!!!
And your using an exploit not a chip correct?  so what boot sequence are you trying to follow....??? They are all boot sequences of bioses from a hacked bios on a chip and you'd still be using the original xbox bios correct....

Intalling XBMC as a Dashboard

First way  "edit bios by renaming the order or names in EVTool or XBTool"not worked for bfm bioses i think(unsupported kernel message)
i am using softmod with XBE exploit and metoo pbl, evox dash

i do following: truing to start XBMC as my alternate dash:

1)metooPBL: edit boot.cfg for alternate bios load with opened dfd tray
 "AltRomfile X2_4983.06_BFM. bin"
2)copy default.xbe and XboxMediaCenter.xml to c:\
3)rename default.xbe to avalaunch.xbe (the name is first on the boot sequence)
4)edit XboxMediaCenter.xml  (<home>E:\apps\XBMC2004-09-10\</home>)
5)Start Xbox with open dfd tray

XBMC not started

sorry my english

well i'm a modchip user, and can only write stuff  in the manual that i know about- anyone who has successfully installed xbmc as a dash on a softmod please feel free to add to the manual- thats the beauty of Wiki, anyone can register and add to it.

from my limited knowledge of softmods, don't you need to "sign" XBMC's .xbe file to work with PBL?

no, the pbl executable file is the only one that needs to be signed in order to be executed by the exploit... once pbl is loaded,  there's no need to sign anything else...

@ Denaturat:
does xbmc works as the principal dash (not alt.)?...  see if that works, then try to set it as alternative dash...

Since it looks like you are using the Ltools UDE soft mod, read up on what it actually does and where it puts the files. (hint e:\Dashboard\default.xbe) and how he set up the expliot to work there is much information on this in the following thread http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=227528, as far as altering the boot order on a BFM bios use the altered evtool that comes in the metoo pack from the usual places and you can alter the bfm bios the same as you would a regular bios with EVtool.

Ice

Blackbox hacking gets you into trouble, always know what its doing before you do it....

i knew it would be a very redundant question and i would take some heat for it, but a friend modded by box and i am learning as i go.

thanks to everyone for your effort but thanks to iceman73 for the thread.....thats what i needed. everything works great now. what was confusing me was the fact that i was reading threads for ppl who had chips and since i didnt, i wasnt sure what i was looking for. thanks again.
