Title: Which Original Ms Bios Should I Use?.

I've just finished fixing a friends box that had "coma console" syndrome by flashing the tsop. I flashed it using an X2 bios and everything is running fine now. But my problem is this, my friend wants to use the xbox on live. So what I want to do is reflash the tsop with the original ms bios and then install a an ndure softmod. The only thing is I don't know which original ms bios to use??. Its a v1.4 xbox with a winbond chip from 2003 if that helps anyone identify which one I should use. I had a look on the mobo to see if it was written in marked but couldn't read what it said and there was nothing else to suggest what the original bios was. Any help would be much appreciated!.

Ok, so I've been having a search around and it appears I might need either retail bios 5530 or 5713?. I think when I first checked the original ms dash it said Kernel 5530 so would that be the one to go for?. The only thing is the 5530 bios I downloaded from xbins is a 1mb bios. The original backup that raincoat made is only 256k (I would use this but its corrupted). Does raincoat resize bios to fit?  blink.gif  blink.gif . This is confusing!. Someone please help.

I'm still no closer to working out what retail bios I should flash. I know its going to be one of the 256k bios but which one I just don't know. Will any of the 256k bios work in a v1.4?. I cant risk flashing the wrong one since its not my xbox and I dont want to buy a chip if it goes tits up. Can anyone help??  sad.gif  sad.gif

Well It seems like I'm on my own with this one laugh.gif . I've now narrowed it down to retail bios 5101. From what I've read it works in v1.2-v1.3 and v1.4 boxes so unless anyone tells me otherwise I'm just going to chance it with 5101. Seems like the correct size too, 256k. Got a couple of weeks untill my friend wants to use live anyway so plenty of time for someone to tell me this is the wrong one  smile.gif .

xbox v1.0 : 3944, 4034 , 4036 , 4627
xbox v1.1 : 4817, 4972
xbox v1.2-1.5 :5101, 5530, 5713
xbox v1.6 : 5838

I would use 5713, however, like you said the one found on xbins is 1 meg.  I am pretty sure with raincoat, you can still flash it as it will either resize it for you,  overwrite itself 4 times, or just write the first 256k then the remainder will be lost in the void.  Better get a second opinion on that.
If you want to resize it yourself there are many ways to do it, one would be to open it with " X2BM - XECUTER2 BIOS MANAGER v2.3" (if you can still find that app...hahahha) and just delete 3 banks and resave.
If you have a chipped box of the same version range, you can flash it to a free bank on that first to be sure that it works.  As with any tsop flash, it is always good to try out an edited bios on something that you can easily recover from a bad/corrupt flash.
Good luck, I have done exactly that in the past but I used a resized bios, not the full 1 meg.

At last!, someone who knows about retail bios  biggrin.gif . Thanks for the info!!.

I can't test the bios out first because none of my own boxes are v1.4. I'm just going to risk it and if it all goes wrong then my friend will just have to buy a chip!. I did him a favour fixing his coma console anyway so he can't complain. Saying that though if I do screw up then guess whos going to have to spend the time installing the chip!  rolleyes.gif .
