Title: More .x Logo Questions
Post by: Alkar Ellisine on July 29, 2005, 01:09:00 PM
Alright, I've made my own model in LightWave, and have looked around in threads here for information.  Every time I try to go to any of the sites referenced (yes, even x-projects.org) I get either a Forbidden error or a generic redirect page to a domain registration company.  I tried to find Deep Explorer, but with no luck.  I could find nowhere on the site to download it, it was all feature info and tutorials.

What I need is information as to how I can make .x logos for the "X" and text on startup.  I'm using LightWave 7.5, and I'm using iND-BiOS 5003.67 with the .cfg file on the C: drive.  Models on AllXboxSkins.com work, more or less, but nothing I've done has been successful, except to make the "X" disappear.

I am also having trouble making an .x file that works. But you can get deep exploration from here http://www.downseek.com/download/21946.asp

:UPDATE:
I've played around with it some, and for my purposes, I've found settings that work like a charm.

As stated before, I use LightWave 7.5, and for either I export the model to 3DS format.  Text replacement should (must?) be one flat model. Custom rotation: H 0, P 90, B 0.  In Deep Exploration, invert the face orientation and export (Save As) to .X format using Texture Coords, Save Normals, ASCII mode, and Turn To Left-Hand System checked (all else blank) and 4 max points per poly.  [Source: a few, but Klutsh's posts (this one in peticular) were most helpful, IMO]

As far as I can tell, "X" replacements don't require you to flip the face orientation.  Also, when exporting to .X format, the settings are: ONLY ASCII mode and Turn To Left-Hand System are checked, and 4 max points per poly.

Hope this sheds some light on a subject that's been covered really piecemeal all over the forums.
