I've posted this in another thread - as this problem originally arose while I was installing an AladdinXT into a v1.6 xbox - which I think is a 'b' version - I just haven't taken the extra minute to search and confirm this (I know... I know...).
Anyway, my problem was that after installing the AladdinXT into this xbox, whenever I booted it up, I would get the ol' 'no audio/video' problem (which after doing a little bit of searching, this looks like it's becoming quite a popular problem). This would happen about 4 out of 5 boots. Here is a cut & paste from my other thread which pretty much explains everything:

I got the v1.6(b?) working. It looks as though it was a bios problem. The M8plus_16 bios would give the no audio/video on bootup, but then I tried the 'Yoshihiro-m8-1.6B-Memory-Fixe-Beta4' bios and it worked like a charm! So I dunno if there are still issues with some xboxes and the M8plus_16 bios - but it worked for me.
I ended up testing this pretty thoroughly - just to make sure. Here's what I did:
1) Started booting the xbox with the problem bios (which was a M8plus_16 bios that I had modified with EVTool 1.0.9). On the 8th boot I had no video. Pretty much every attempt after this resulted in the same thing (it would boot properly about 1 out of 5 tries).
2) Swapped AladdinXTs with one that had the 'Yoshihiro-m8-1.6B-Memory-Fixe-Beta4' bios on it. The xbox booted up 30 times without any problems.
3) To make sure that it wasn't a problem with the modchip that I had originally used, I swapped the SST chip from the working one (the chip with the Yoshihiro bios) and put it into the none-working XT. Booted the xbox another 30 times without any problems.
4) Just to confirm, I put the XT with the original, modified M8plus_16 bios back into the xbox and the problem showed up after only two boots.
5) Thinking that maybe it was a problem with the modified M8plus_16 bios, I decided to try a virgin M8plus_16 bios. I booted the xbox 27 times (which all booted fine), but then on the 28th boot, I started getting the no audio/video problem again (which would happen about 4 out of 5 tries after this). So even though the xbox booted fine 27 times with this bios, it still leads me to believe that the M8plus_16 bios isn't fully 'compatible' with this xbox.
6) Now, just to make sure (and be objective about this), I put the XT with the Yoshihiro bios back into the xbox and booted it another 40 times without any problems.
So after booting the xbox a total of 100 times with the Yoshihiro bios and not any problems, I think it's safe to say that this bios will work fine with this xbox.
I should also note a few specifics about the xbox and the install:
- v1.6 xbox (not sure if it's a 'b' version - I'll have to look into that to confirm it) with the brown power/eject leads - 2004-09-09 - Dash: 1.00.5838.01 - Kernal: 1.00.5960.01 - AladdinXT installed alĂ 'always on' - LPC rebuilt, BT grounded & LFrame trace cut

The reason I'm posting this in this forum as well is that I think this problem needs to be addressed. I'm not sure if it was just a fluke case with this particular xbox, but after the testing I did, it's safe to say that the M8plus_16 bios didn't want to work properly in this xbox. Hopefully this will draw a little more attention to this problem and an updated bios may be released.
Cheers
well it didnt work for me.. but i think my xbox died a while ago.. anyways
another good way of ending this problem for many of you is to ftp or usb the videoswitcher program and that usually resets to the origional booting process and will most likely show video again..
or if your lucky you can get ur hands on either the disk version or downloadable version of the refresher disk or boot disk.. that resets EVERYTHING , erases all saved games blahblahblah... but if MS uses it to fix ur broken xboxs then it should work for you as well..
Well,... I ran into the exact same problem with another v1.6b and using Yoshihiro's bios didn't help. I think I may have narrowed it down to a problem with the AladdinXT chip - but I'll have to get my hands on another v1.6b to do a little more testing.
Basically the AladdinXT with Yoshihiro's bios wouldn't work, but I put an Aladdin Advance v32 w/ a modified M8plus_16 bios and it worked like a charm.
I also have to admit that my testing above didn't really test the SST chips properly - so that may have been the problem. Hopefully some other people can test this and confirm that they're having problems with the AladdinXT chips and the v1.6b xboxes.
i also have the issue. and will post a fix for it.
After seeing this post: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=309060, I'm wondering if it's not a problem with the SST chips on the AladdinXT. Maybe they're not flashing properly?
Either way, a solution for this would be very nice... :)
the problem is the bios its self, i flashed a 1.6b with Yoshihiro-m8-1.6B-Memory-Fixe-Beta4 and it does not fail at all
where the 16plus would eat shit every other time.
That's what I had originally thought - until I came across another v1.6b that had the same problem. I thought - okay, no problem... I'll just whip the Yoshihiro bios on the chip and I'm good to go. No dice. I ended up using an Aladdin Advance v32 in this xbox (with a modified M8plus_16 bios) and it worked like a charm.
Now my previous post above I mentioned that I thought it may be a problem with the SST chips - but I just finished throwing the AladdinXT that gave me so much trouble in the v1.6b into a v1.6 and it worked perfectly. So the SST chip must be fine.
If I had to guess, I would think that it must be some sort of problem between either the AladdinXT or SST chip & the v1.6b xbox.
if it was the SST chip then it would be present in all SST chips... i dont think the issue is the chip it self. perhaps its the PIC on it. since its not connecting directly to the SST but to the aladin pic first then to the SST. i am going to test it with a smartxx chip and the m16 bios and see if it does the same thing.
I've got xbox dated 2004-09-08 with Aladdin XT inside, I've got the problems described above.
I've tried to flash it with M8plus_16 - didn't helped, so I've tried Yoshihiro-m8-1.6B-Memory-Fixe-Beta4 and it is still the same. It starts OK one out of 5 or 10 times. I don't know which version is it 1.6 or 1.6b.

normal v1.6 is using Samsung RAM chips. Evox M8_1.6 should work fine.
v1.6b is using Hynix RAM chips. Evox M8_1.6 will not work. Need Evox M8plus_1.6 to initialize the RAM properly.
I've tried both M8_1.6 and M8plus_1.6, xbox is acting the same. With M8plus_1.6 it booted 1 out of 5 times.
My x-box has Samsung ram so I suppose it can't be 1.6b does it.

Have you tried just the M8+ not 1.6 bios? Ive been finding that its working perfectly on the 1.6's with the newer versions of the XT chips. Dont know why, but if i flash the chips to any of the other bios around the video problem pops up. Ive been trying to come across a reason for this, but i simply cant explain why this version is working in the 1.6 and the others are not.

Thanks for info I'll try this asap. On the side note, I've seen some posts about the recent problems happening with boards with samsung ram like mine, seems like there is more to the 1.6b thing than just hynix / samsung issue.
Aaargh it's still the same... so far I've tried M8, M8+,M8_1.6, M8+1.6, Yoshihiro-m8-1.6B-Memory-Fixe-Beta4 seems like there's no more choices for me :-(((
My box is Crystal, date 2004-09-08, samsung ram, samsung-toshiba dvd. Aladdin XT installed. It is booting one out of five times. Once it boots I can turn it off and on over and over again and it is going to boot without a problems 100/100 times, but once I leave it turned off for more than 2 minutes - I am going to get the booting problems again.

Your problems sounds a lot more like a chip-hardware-install issue.
I have had a few rather weird problems on some of my earlier XT-1.6-installs, before I got the hang of it.
I remember one of the first ones, wich was very troublesome. It would start, no problem. But if you turned it off, it would not start again, unless you waited for a while. It was very weird, and sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. It could be on for quite a while, and then not start again.
The problem was resolved by refining the LPC-rebuild. Making the wires as short as possible, and also making sure that the BT-line was not broken in any way.
That install had the BT-wire itself get slightly broken in the bend when the chip was turned and puched into the pinheader. The bad conection that resulted in was nothing the chip liked.
Probably the heat would make the bad connection get worse, and therefore, the chip would not get BT-signal properly on the next start, and frag.
Also, if you have used flux (or in many cases, even if you didn't) when soldering the wires, be sure to clean it off, either with alcohol or some sort of flux-clene. Use a small brush if needed (like one you use when you bake cinnamon rolls to paint the egg on them while they are in the oven). Make sure you allow it to dry out properly.
Also remember to clean the area on the front where the L1 and BT is soldered. If there is a lot of flux residues there, it can give rather weird behavour to the box on/off/reset-things.
Recap:
Check LPC-rebuild.
Check BT-line not damaged.
Check no flux or other gunk on the board.
This may or may not be what is wrong with your box, but I din't think it would hurt to check.
