Why is it that it can't run from memcard ? coz the bios can't boot from H: ?? Or is H: not mapped or something like that?
Coz then we might get something like there is on the PS2scene (Indepence exploit, which runs an exploit + dashboard completely from memcard). So on PS2 you can use an exploit to run backups from HDD, but if you want to go online you can disconnect the HDD + remove the memcard and your ps2 is back to retail. Would be nice to have something like that for xbox!

They designed memcard usage the way it is. Regarding the P$2, the way that's designed you have to pay lots more money for extra hardware. If you'd like to do something similar to that on your X8OX you can ... keep your original harddrive as per stock and use it for XBL, cold-swap it with another disk for everything else eh. :P

yeah ok, i guess doing it with a memcard just isn't possible.
What about my other question, if i use UDE1/2 (ltools install) then will the modified bios always load? or will it not load when i cold boot the xbox with an original live game in it or will that get my banned as well ?? (i searched Idots topic but only read that you can't use the xbox live tab in ms dash when having a live link to the internet).
If that wouldn't work there are only 2 options left i guess (if you don't want to void your warranty):
- use 007 exploit to load evox, ftp a game to E:\ and recon you only have 5GB of space (as i believe even on 20 retail HDDs you only get 8GB total space right?). when you want to play online, remove the game from E:\ and remove the 007 save game leaving the box 'untouched'
- use UDE ltools install, play games from DVDr and when you want to play online, uninstall UDE + remove 007 save game + any save games that are from a different region + saves not retail signed (beta's, review copies etc).
Is that correct?? Thanks Eh!
I used the memory card to get the exploit on my box and load it through 007 myself. Now the save file is on my box, and I run through 007 to launch EvoX. I have Halo backed up onto my box, but when I try to run it I get an Error 21. I'm not sure, and I'd like to know if this is possible or not as well, but it might be that you can't launch an XBE when loading EvoX through a hacked save file...
If you're not running pbl thru the gamesave, you need to habibi-sign halo's default.xbe. Then it'll run. Assuming your save is habibi-signed. Otherwise, it would need to be font-signed. Habibi would be my guess, tho.
Ltools is fine to cold-boot games for live. However, there's been a rash of bannings lately, and nobody's sure yet on why, so be careful.
I just installed the ltools UDE package and although it works great I already modified it for my needs. Now it also has an Menu Item called "Uninstall for Safe XB Live!" :)
Just a simple piece of action script, that looks if UDE is really removed, and then continues to remove ALL the files that ltools leaves on the E drive, and then also removes the save game itself. It asks if you want to remove the E files (as the C-backup is there) and also asks if you want to remove the save game. My friend wanted to be sure there is NOTHING on the disk that wasn't there before, so this should help... Only thing left is that he should also remove the save games for Ltools, MXM, boxplorer and every game/emu/app he has run since installing.
I might remove the ltools, mxm, boxplorer save games using the script as well.. just need their save game IDs.
Am i missing anything, or would that lead to a virgin HDD again ?
I noticed that when UDE is active and you insert a DVDr backup that it will not load from d:\default.xbe first, but move on to the evox/mxm dash. Yet, if you insert a original Live game it WILL boot from d:\
So, it detects if it is an original disc or not.. so that would mean that cold booting an original would lead to xbox live banning not ??
I don't think i'd use the cold boot even if it would work, as it still leaves all those files on C: and E: discs (+saves). Uninstalling is done in a minute, and installing UDE takes about 3-4 minutes.
Ps: if anyone needs the script let me know and i'll paste it here

That would be a handy script. Please post
Hmm. I couldn't get it to work when I did it... what version of EvoX are you running?
acheron: you signed the halo default.xbe with -> xbedump default.xbe -habibi (in dos) .. then deleted the default.xbe, and renamed the out.xbe to default.xbe ?
I didn't even know halo would fit on the remaining the E space, but it could be. Also is that HALO version the same as your own region (assuming it is your own backup). It should work, otherwise try a smaller original game you have lying around (sign it as well). If you don't want to sign every game, you need Phoenix Bios Loader which would load a hacked bios and then boot to evox (on c:\evoxdash.xbe normally). If you are goanna do that, just get Idots ltools UDE installer. It will install PBL, evox, bios, etc automatically and can easily remove (most of the) files.
anjilslaire: i can't attach the scripts here so i'll just paste the changed bits from ltools 1.75 you can grab from the distro place.

mxm.xml + menu.xml are the ones in the save game content folder, don't edit the xml scripts in the \files folder.
Also, this script is for the 007 hack as it uses the 007 save location (just edit all the e:\udata + e:\tdata reference to your savegame location for sc/mechassault.
It's got a lott of messageboxes, but it's meant to be strict (thus annoying) ;)
i'll see if i can host the full menu.xml, mxm.xml files somewhere
Du-uh. Habibi. I'm smart.
Okay, after signing the default.xbe I reran my backup copy of Halo. It didn't give me an error screen; in fact, I saw the Halo "Loading..." screen. But after that it went black. Now, I ejected the disk and put in my hard copy of Halo, and lo-and-behold the UI from NMP 1 is staring me in the face.
Originally, I had tried to get Halo NMP 1 to work on my old perma-modded Xbox by copying everything to my PC, applying NMP 1 to the whole set, and burning it to a DVD. I did all of this, but for some unknown reason the DVD became a simple backup copy of Halo. None of the NMP stuff carried over. I shrugged and thought I'd figure it out another day. My old box is broken now, and I only have the clean box left. The old DVD is also gone, lost in moving. I have what appears to be a Halo NMP 1 ISO still intact, but I had figured it was a regular backup because that's what was on the DVD.
So yeah, it's messed up. I still have the original Halo DVD, so I could probably redo this with that one. So... does anyone know of any files that will let me take an Xbox DVD and extract the files from it on a PC?
(By the way, I still have plenty of room on my Xbox hard drive, and obviously it's a normal box [well, except that it's the Halo SE box].)
EDIT: You know what? Your friend and I have the exact same goal (hacking but keeping LIVE access), so I can make this simple on me. Can you just give me a brief checklist of what you did, from start to finish? That way I can do the exact same thing and be done with it. Otherwise I'm gonna hurt myself somehow, I just know it.
EDIT: Okay, I poked around xbox-scene and the distribution place, but couldn't find the Idots installer. Does it use illegal stuff in the first place? Am I missing something obvious (again)?

Yes, get it from the usual places.
ltools ude installer tutorial : http://how2xbox.com/
usual place, look here : xbox/operating system/linux/distributions/ltools/
then grab version for your game. you could add the changes i showed above for the mxm.xml + menu.xml files.
I want to add some extra security to it before i host it somewhere, i want to format x: y: z: if the user wants to + i need to remove the save games for mxm, evox, boxplorer, ltools menu and other apps that are automatically installed.
I also need some info on the e:\cache folder, i believe i can remove those as well?but i am not sure what it is used for (just extra game cache information i believe)
for backing up a game, you can just use evox dash and then ftp into your xbox. there are a lot of tutorials on that one. i don't believe you can do it by just using a pc..
Cool. I think I'm starting to get it. Thanks.
