I have a softmodded Xbox but my drive is messed up so it freezes a lot. I save the game to the hdd and it'll run fine (and games like Madden 2005 will load much quicker) so I have to do that to play w/ it. I want to get a bigger hdd instead of having to save then delete a game each time. I found a 160gb Maxtor hdd for $60 after rebate and am thinking of getting it in the morning but I thought I had seen somewhere here that there's a limit to the size a hard drive can be for a softmodded xbox. I've read the tutorials and many threads but haven't seen or can't remember if there is a max size the hdd can be. This site has been very helpful. Thank you very much

160 GB should work fine. Just make sure it's lockable.

There is no max size, I have a 250gb in my softmod.

My xbox is softmodded with a 160 gig but it only sees about 129 gigs. Any suggestions? I used xbtool but it says unsupported kernel 1.4981.67.

you need to get a bios that supports lba48.
you could try the x2 4983, then you will have a fully working 160g drive, I had 150g free space at F:\ :)

thanks for the responses, I picked up a 160gb one on Sat. morning and installed it. It worked like a charm and now I have the 150gb (no limit or anything like I had thought). :)

i always use pbl-metoo-m8-pack (v1.4) for softmodded xboxes with hdds over 137+
pbl metoo + evolution-x m8 bios... and you can simply edit bios settings with included evtool (LBA48, IGR, dashboard locations,...)

how (and where) would you use the xecuter bios? i have a 250 drive.

would i have to have a chip? (i am doing my bros, i have a chip in mine would that help) the drive i am trying to do is a 250 gig maxtor drive. i can ftp into it through my xbox, and add any files needed. but when i bring up evox it only says that 129 gigs are avaliable, what should i do?

No you dont need a chip. The bios file is the xboxrom.bin file. You can edit it w/ xbtool and enable lba48 support.
