Title: Xbl Not Working (mod Disabled) ... 4980 To Blame?
Post by: Heykrop on January 17, 2004, 08:39:00 AM
Are you SURE you got a cable not connected error on all of the games you tested?  Maybe one slipped past.  Team Executer stated that they were not 100% sure it would work with all LIVE! titles.   There is a chance that you missed one and got banned.  Only way to be sure would be by getting another EEPROM and dump that in over your original. That is after backing up the original just to be safe.

BTW.  What error are you getting when trying to connect?

Keep us posted and good luck.

I would believe that you would get the typical ban message.   Unless M$ has changed their practices and just wait for you to call in with a problem.   Have you tried adding the boxes IP to a DMZ on your router?    Strangely enough I just had to reset my router today because it decided it was not going to let anything on my network get an outside connection.

same here.. after testing the 4980.06 with rainbowsix 3.. x2.2 lite modchip enabled..blocked out live..

then i disabled the modchip and try to log onto xbox live  through the retail dvd..  wont connect.. ask me to go into troubleshoot network

IP was found
DNS was found
cannot find xbox live service

i tried to set it on auto detect..

IP was found
DNS was found
Cannot find xbox live service..

would give the normal suggestions of

If you are using a router make sure the router is Xbox Live compatible etc..
If you are using a router make sure the MTU settings are above 1350 etc..

the night before i upgrade to the new bios i was playing RB6-3 fine with the modchip off

*edit*
nevermind..  my DMZ was enabled which cause the cannot find XBOX LIVE SERIVCE error...
SoloTSi97> if you are connecting through a router make sure your DMZ is off and it should connect fine.

I have the same exact problem as you guys.  I found out I've been banned, so I start using the 4980 bios.  I've reflashed my eeprom 3 times, with one that I know for sure is not banned, but when I try to connect with my original bios on, it says I'm banned or has trouble connecting.

Just by chance do you have a backup of your M$ Dash from before the 4980 mishap?   Have you tried replacing the M$ Dash on the box with the backup just in case the 4980 Live hack somehow corrupted a portion of the Live section of the dash and that is in turn causing the problem.  I know the 4980 hack is supposed to patch it in memory but maybe it went a little too far.  It's worth a shot.

I have something for you to try....  It is possible that the files to go onto live where cached on the drive and those very files have been altered to not let you go their....   Try deleting everything in E:cache, and your X, Y, Z partitions...  It can't hurt anything...  If that doesn't work then try a back up of your Original MS Dash....   It does sound very software orientated to me...

Yes you can copy the content of his C: partition and use it to replace yours provided that
1. His has not had any Dash hacks applied to it.

2. His boots properly with the MOD OFF.

I know this may sound strange, but have you guys made sure your HDD is LOCKED and didn't get somehow UNLOCKED? Just A Thought.

Well, I flashed my brother's EEPROM and copied the contents of his hard drive (after newly formatting mine).  No change.  I'm leaning more and more toward hardware or something.

I think I'm going to take the box apart, remove the chip, reinstall the original HDD (basically returning it to "stock") and see what happens.  If nothing else, it'll be all original when/if 2nd level support calls back.

Failing that ... I'll start looking for a "has problems reading discs" Xbox on ebay to scavenge parts from ... :-/

Can anyone confirm that 4980 is causing a problem like this? I really want to upgrade but if its gonna be acting up like this with the mod disabled then i will be afraid to update.

does it at least work for some of you? unsure.gif

How did it end? Did your xbox find live again?
I am a litle bit afraid to use 4980/1 until I know that
its safe... any progress?

I have the same problems as everyone else here and i did all the suggestions, but to no effect.
THen i replaced my original HDD and live was working again as usual.
So must be a problem with the new HDD!

If it works again then you replace the hd it sems to me
that something is writen to the harddrive, by the bios/dash/game
that causes this.

Annyway I think that we realy should look in to this problem.
How many of the users of 4980/1 have tried to connect to
live after use of this bios (I guess that trying to access live
while booting 4980 is required for this error to happen)?

Seeing that it seems to be fixed when you reverted back to the original drive and just replacing the M$ Dash did not seem to take care of it ( as per a previous post )  Then it is quite possibly that the save file for your LIVE! account is being effected and is what is causing the NO Connect issue.

Just for a test.  Anyone that is currently having this problem. Try going into the Memory area under the M$ Dash and delete your LIVE! Account.  ( MAKE SURE you have all your needed info before doing this )  Now ReBoot the box and then try doing an account recovery from the LIVE! area of the dash.

If you are then able to connect to LIVE! then we will know this is the problem.

Have you tried the above solution yet SoloTSi97?

I've been having the same problem, but when I reflashed my EEPROM it worked.

But reflashing your EEPROM also deletes your LIVE accounts, so it could be that.

I've been having the same problem as you all.  I noticed however when I go through the trouble shooting and I when I'm at the connection status menu, my serial number is blank.   Anyone else experience this too?  Also, by the way, my box was soft modded.  And I restored everything to stock before I tried connecting.  Also, my box has never been opened.

Wow, for some reason I have not gotten any email notification that there were replies to this thread!

I have not tried any of these suggestions.  But, I swapped my original Xbox HDD back in and was still unable to connect to Live.

I may try wiping my hard drive and going with a clean Slayer's install and see what happens after I recover my account info.  I will post if anything changes.

Okay, so as soon as I typed that I realized that I just put a new 20GB hard drive in my Xbox (I bought a new one, which works ... and am preparing this one for sale to a friend who doesn't care about XBL).  So, I did the Slayer's install quick, and booted the MS Dash.

XBL still will not connect.  Now, this is with a brand new HDD, and my EEPROM flashed back to the original EEPROM for this Xbox (banned from XBL, but still, it doesn't even connect far enough to tell me it's banned).  I didn't even get into account recovery, selected the Xbox Live tab from the MS Dash, and was prompted with "Unable to establish Network Connection".  Then, into the Network Troubleshooter and same old error.

My XYZ codes, since I don't know what they mean:
X:0000-F001
Y:00C2-03E0
Z:0000-0000

No AFFF or FFFF as was suggested above.  I'm betting that somewhere along the line, while I was plugging/unplugging the network cable with all the rest of my equipment on (router, cable modem, etc.) ... something got zapped.  Who knows.  I didn't realize this many people were having trouble with it, though ... makes me wary about putting 4980/1 on my new Xbox.

Well I too am having problems with Live...i was using 4981 and had no problems. Nor did I try to connect to live with my chip enabled...I was only running the new bios as a failsafe, so i never even tried it to see if it connected or not with the chip on.
I was able to connect to live with the chip off, however after about a week or 2 of use i began getting the same error mentioned..."Unable to Connect to Xbox Live"  instantly.

I have seen the normal banned eeprom message and this is not it..it never gets that far.
I have since flashed down to 4978 and also copied all my original M$ HDD stuff  back to the box( C and E Dir) still same error.
Even changed eeprom and still same prob.

Does any one know exactly how the 4980/1 patch works...what in memory it patches and where...more detail would be useful.

TIA!!

Wow, a lot of people reporting this problem.  I'm in the middle of a Matrix install in my new Xbox (somehow I managed to buy a brand new v1.1 with Samsung drive at Target over the weekend).  I think I'll flash it with 4979 to be safe and passcode protect my XBL account. :-)

Dont take this the wrong way guys, but I think everyone is barking up the wrong tree.

I have the same problem with 3 of my xbox's in my network.
I have 2 modified and one unmodded that are having the same symptoms. One of them thats modded hase a bad eeprom on it still, but everything has a IP from the router and detects a dns but says "Xbox Live Not Found"

Ive been through the "tech Support" if they want to call themselves that.... the 2 people i spoke to both came back to a router problem. Even though my wireless setup is LIVE compatible, and I was on live last week for over 3 months with the wireless setup. My network DID reset, so it has to be a router setting. I havent tried connecting it to my modem cuz it wont reach, but the unmodded bow is wired to the router itself and it cannot connect either. So i think that may lead to a ISP problem with the MTU's or a router settings.

The dashboard setting are normal andhave not been changed. The unmodified xbox is completely stock form the store. (Havent had a chance to mod that 1.6 yet. Hardly had the patience for a 1.0)  That xbox has no updates whatsoever from live except what it needs for rainbow six. It has been playin fine. My ISP is comcast, and my equipment is ALL recommended for xbox live.

I plan on calling comcast in about a hour to find out what they think cuz M$ had me talking to 2 different people that kept me on the phone and running around my house reseting networks and unplugging cables with no resolve.

a quick thing to add here, I had this problem when I bought a new router setup and was configuring the settings. When i tried to access live a couple of days later, I got the same error and ended up on the phone with these guys for about a hour and they DID get it working! So I assume u may have to keep calling back till your reach someone competent
