Title: Will Increasing Fan Speed Burn Out Fan?
Post by: nuzzy on December 27, 2003, 05:12:00 AM
I increased my fan speed in XBTool from 20% to 100%.  Will this eventually burn out my fan?

I'm no expert but...

It will eventually probably create more wear and tear, but nothing right away. It may last 3 years as opposed to 4 etc...

Fans are cheap so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Crank it up dude!!

Runned? How old are you?

MTBF's are calculated at normal operating conditions. The Xbox fan was designed to run at 100% load, not 20% load or whatever MS has it running at. Running the fan at 100% (12V) speed will decrease your internal temperatures by 5 - 10 degrees centigrade, which is substantial.
